To be honest, it was the first thing I thought of after hearing of the incident. Most are saying what Clarkson did was at in some way understandable, yet you can bet your bottom dollar Hird wouldn't have been cut any slack whatsoever, despite the prolonged harassment he endured on his own ******* doorstep.

I hate to see the message this sends to fans. people get in Essendon supporters faces all the time when they're drunk and beat us. calling us drug cheats, does this make it acceptable for us to punch them in the head and say "we were provoked" no it doesn't. he needs to be suspended. otherwise it becomes a free for all

Its those sort of punches I had in mind when I saw it.
Hes somewhat of a role model to some people..

he was lucky he didn't connect as he aimed for. however the issue is he has a long history of anger issues. the bloke needs to be seriously punished, but the afl will protect their own . lets hope a precedent isn't made where your allowed to king hit a bloke because he is drunk and he "goads you"

Two wrongs don't make a right. Was the fan in the wrong - yes. Should clarkson retaliate and hit him? No.

Imagine if every player hit an opponent when he was verbally abused - would the tribunal let them off? Hell no. And all the fan did was say carn the power...
