I'm not usually into crime shows, but a U.S series called The Wire was absolutely incredible. 5 seasons worth of goodness about crime and poverty in Baltimore, Maryland - it showed all the levels involved. Cops, crims, politicians, the education system, everything.

Dexter I liked the first 4 seasons. I watched it till the bitter end of course, but if they ended it on four people would STILL be talking about it. Great example of a series overstaying its welcome in my opinion.

Funnily enough I've never even seen a single episode of Game of Thrones, nor read the books. Everyone keeps berating me for that so I'll cave. Eventually.

I started re-watching The X Files, right from season one. One episode a night before bed, with the lights off. Still a bloody good series.

Ash vs Evil Dead won't be for everyone, but man I loved it. Gore-laden chainsaw shenannigans abound. It only lasted 3 seasons but bloody hell, it went out BLAZING. It went out the way Dexter should have gone out, on a high but still with plenty left in the tank.
You havnt watched game of thrones? Man thats taking the Sicko to the extreme. Find a week. Bunker up somewhere and enjoy.

Thank you, yes, I think I'm nearly a non-smoker lol

Rome was a British-American-Italian production. Rome was an unprecedented show for HBO! It was the first time that HBO shot a period drama overseas, which featured elaborate, sumptuous sets + costumes that brought the atmosphere of the ancient city to vivid life on screen! So the British + Italian efforts probably explain the unflinching portrayal of sex, violence + sexual violence. Rome became the precursor for HBO's Game of Thrones. There are many parallels between Rome + Game of Thrones. Both shows manifest intrigue, murder + betrayal, yet no character is guaranteed to survive. GoT's Daenerys Targaryen is Rome's Cleopatra. Joffrey Baratheon is as cruel as the brutally calculating Gaius Octavian. Catelyn Stark + Cersei Lannister have their Roman counterparts in Atia of the Julii + Servilia of the Junii!

Do you watch Game of Thrones Vdubs?

I'm with you on:
Six Feet Under
Carnivàle
Knots Landing
Dallas
Dexter

No, don't know Capital City, looks great, the type of show I'd enjoy.

Ah! Breaking Bad *sigh* Adored the first Season, then stopped watching it. I think my Mum had decided she want to die then, so all my time was spent with her, organising carers, arranging morning + afternoon teas, lunches + dinners with friends. She was supposed to have a six week farewell, because she stopped eating + refused her tablets. But for nine months, she survived on Champagne, then the last two months on Lager.

Vdubs we are kindred souls of TV lol

Spearman + Geelong_Sicko + Seeds - which of the above shows have you enjoyed? + would you nominate other great TV shows?
Of the list ive only seen breaking bad and dexter. My wife loves six feet under though and keeps pushing me to watch it.

Breaking bad is excellent. The first season has a couple of dull episodes and due to the writers strike has no real season ending. The show gets better and funnier and from season 2 is consistently good to the very last episode with some major pay offs. Not sure its my absolute favourite show but i do think its the best drama Ive seen (caveat i havent seen the Wire). Must watch.

dexter is very good in season 1,2 and 4. It was at one point my favourite tv show. But after 4 it falls away and I couldnt even make it to the finish. Apparently a lot of the writers changed and the later writers clearly werent up to the same standard.

Dallas >Dynasty
You'll like CC- a classy show with a superb finale
6FU is still unbeatable imho.
A VPP was quirky, but compulsory viewing.
Yes, loved 6FU, was ground breaking.
Will have a look at VPP.

It's just finding time to watch catchup TV lol

I'm surprised at how popular 6FU still is, it just seems such a long time ago to me.

I really like the first episodes of BB + it's a brilliant concept. But I think I was doing Architecture at Uni + I just couldn't get into it. Uni just took all of my time.

Loved Dexter! I did see it right through + loved it. But then, I do tend to do marathons. I'll tape a whole season, then download previous seasons + watch it all again.

I've just done American Horror Story, from S1 Murder House to S6 Roanoke + am recording S7 Cult. But we're so behind, it's up to S8 Apocalypse. That is another fantastic HBO series. I thought I would miss Jessica Lange when she left, but Lady Gaga is superb!

You have to watch The Wire, it's one of the best shows.

What about some closer to home classics?

Possibly my favourite Aussie series

Lorraine Bayly, Susan Hannaford, Paul Cronin, Michael Caton... what a list of talent

Adored SeaChange.

I didn't ever watch the Sullivans. Just checked, I was at Uni + working, plus was more into Dallas + Dynasty. My time revolved around seeing what outfit I would make that week, based on Amanda + Krystle from Dynasty, or Sue Ellen + Pamela from Dallas. I even had the same hair as Amanda lol *Fashion Victim*.

Another terrific Australian TV show was Rake with Richard Roxburgh

Underbelly was so eye opening! Especially the Melbourne Gangland Killings, which just gripping for Sydney-siders! We were utterly mesmerised by people being killed over drugs! In Sydney, people were only really killed over property lol Another thing was that I had Roberta Williams as a Facebook friend, not knowing who she was :eek::eek: :joycat::joycat::joycat:

It's also fair enough to watch the first four seasons then stop. The quality takes a fairly serious nose dive once they move past Storm of Swords material (not unlike the books, sad to say).

See, I’m still engrossed, cannot get enough GoT.

The quality of the dialogue and twists does fall away I agree. But to partially counter this the story does move at a much better pace which means a lot more is happening making it more entralling. Its a pity the dialgoue and lack of twists isnt quite as good though.

There are some good individual storylines but I think the overall show is just hugely diminished, which is a shame. I'm also not at all convinced by the HBO guys ability to come up with original ideas, characters, etc.

I was buried deeply in my love of the series starting from the books for years... was trying fiercely to get people watching the show when it was first coming out.

Now I don't have any motivation to care about something that isn't a new book or Dunk & Egg.

True Detective is worth a watch if you have the stomach. It's weird, dark, gritty, fresh, and depressing all in one. The Wire taken out another degree further. Outstanding performances.

I see they have a season 3 now. Season 2 had an interesting story line for its base, but IMO some of the other lines were not as strong.

Yep, the 'National Socialist German Workers' Party'

Lefties get confused easily, poor idealistic folk.
No, Hitler was the confused one, given Socialism is about unity and gathering to form strength and Right winged movements are about individualism and power to the few (ends justifies means etc)
Hitler wanted the perfect race by not simply marginalising people, but terminating them.
That is an extreme right wing action, not a left wing action
Lefties not confused if educated, Hitler and many other purging dictators have been the confused ones
You see, the Bush boys and the Trumpites are extreme righters. They want to purge anything woman, muslim, mexican, black, disabled, etc
They have been a little kinder to the aged, as they as individuals need this sector to be favoured.
Oh the sadness of it all
They too will die, but in their case with little dignity

Stalin?

What about Stalin?
In every system there is provision for abuse of it
Totalitarianism is something where it works toward assuring subservience to the state.
People who want power are often those who work toward control
This has nothing to do with left or right, but in fact mental illness
