It's third on the VFL ladder hosting first as the Lions take their nine game unbeaten streak on the road to Box Hill City Oval to take on the third-placed Hawks. The Hawks suffered somewhat of a surprise loss to Williamstown last weekend, being restricted to just 16 scoring shots for the game and losing by 15 points (11.10.76 to 9.7.61). On the other side of the ledger, the Lions have enjoyed a sparkling start to the season, with their closest result being a four point win over Carlton back at the start of May (8.13.63 to 8.11.59).

This game also doubles as the 2013 VFL premiership 10-year reunion, with Box Hill and Hawthorn doing the double over the Cats. It was a fair team the Box Hill Hawks put out against the Cats in the VFL premiership decider:

B: Angus Litherland, Matthew Spangher, David Mirra (c)
HB: Taylor Duryea, Kyle Cheney, Derick Wanganeen
C: Sam Iles, Michael Osborne, Marc Lock
HF: Jed Anderson, Shane Savage, Jonathan Simpkin
F: Jonathan Ceglar, Sam Grimley, Bryce Retzlaff
Foll: Luke Lowden, Mitch Hallahan, Will Langford
I/C: Ryan Exon, Jordan Kelly, Xavier Murphy, Tim O'Brien, Liam Tobin
Coach: Damien Carroll

Tickets for the pre-game lunch featuring the premiership-winning coach Damien Carroll and captain David Mirra (starting at 10.30am and finishing at 2.00pm) are still available from this link: blackthorn ⋮ Events

It's the first time in the VFL that Box Hill have taken on the Lions, so with top four on the line for both teams, it should be a cracking match. If you can't make it to the game and also aren't at the MCG cheering on the Hawks, you can put this game on the second screen while having Hawthorn on the main screen, by clicking the stream at this link: AFL - News, Fixtures, Scores & Results - AFL.com.au

If you're at the MCG and want to keep tabs on the Box Hill game, 3WBC 94.1FM will have live coverage.

If you're in the neighbourhood and not making it to the MCG, you can enter the ground from 10.30am through the main gates on Whitehorse Road. 2023 Hawthorn members are entitled to free entry upon presentation of their membership card. For non-members, tickets are $10 for adults, concession at $5 and children under 15 have free entry.

Teams to come.

Dixie Flatline, you do a wonderful job posting the previews every week but it's Bryce Retzlaff.

And your piece of trivia for the day is that his father's name was Hawk.

With that sort of omen we were bound to win. It was a fabulous match too.

Q 4 come home with wind?
It seems all of the Lions shots at goal from the right forward pocket are being directed towards the goal. So kicking across the face has resulted in both of their goals.

Long is a monster at this level. Accumulates, wins key contests, uses it well.
Wardy is one you want delivering the ball into the 50.
Jeka hasn't missed a target setting us up from defence. Good skill to have as a defender.
JOS has a handful of passages that makes me think he'll be a good AFL player.
Wingard looks dangerous when the ball is near him.
Greene 2 marks, 2 kicks, 2 goals.

Long has worked really hard on his kicking.

Been so good. Clear intent to kick in packs to the outside man, allow us to spread really well.

Based off this quarter he needs to play for ones. Too good.

Jeka has looked really nice down back - his field kicking is superb

Thought we’ve looked a bit scrappy around the contest.

Greene/chad very good at getting on end of fast breaks (front running or good play). A couple of contests from chad that he could have done better.

Ramsden had an uncanny knack of getting ruck free kicks.

Love JOS intent. Possibly lack a yard.

Jeka clean with ball. DGB largely unsighted.

Chad interesting jumper. Looks like a sleevelsss box hill over a long sleeve hawthorn one

The number 20 a bit dull though

But then Jed rule is back with a long sleeve box hill. Maybe they are made to order and not enough time for Chad?
