Koschitzke - battled on after rolling an ankle and was noticeably hampered by it. Still finished with 2.2 for the day, but has to be questionable for next weekend.

Naismith - spent the first 3 quarters up forward while Samson rucked, went into the ruck in the last and was beaten by Lobb.

Coulthard - quieter day than previous weeks, had his moments though where he did something special, including a lovely snap in the 2nd quarter. Not sure he gets elevated off that game.

McAuliffe - pretty strong for 3 quarters and ran out of legs in the last in what has a hard contested game for him. Got his hands on plenty of footy at the clearance and was defensively strong. Finished with 2 goals as well to put his name in the mix for next week.

Ryan - rucked the first 3 quarters before being sent forward in the last as he tired. Had the most hitouts on the day with 43 in a good battle with Smith and Lobb. Hasn't done his chances of a call up any harm.

McIntosh - quiet first half before being shifted into the centre square after half time. Had 15 disposals & 6 clearances in the 2nd half, could very well find himself back in the seniors due to injuries.

Trezise - was strong again as an interceptor inside D50. Constantly won possession back for us and used the ball very well coming out of the back half. Unfortunately hurt his neck/possible concussion early in the last quarter due to an awkward landing. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and he only misses a week at most.

Bauer - like Trezise was strong in the back half winning the ball back with good work in the air. Ball usage helped set up counter attack opportunities. Was pulled in the last quarter as he was on managed minutes as he played his first game for the season. Will be better for the run no doubt.

Green - not a big day possession wise, but laid 10 tackles which will surely please the coaches. Will be in the discussion for a debut having been close the last few weeks.

Smith - didn't play the type of game he had been playing this year, but was still solid enough. Has probably been our most consistent AFL listed players at VFL level this year and will get an opportunity eventually at the next level.

Davidson - picked a good time to put in an eye catching performance with the MSD 2 weeks away. Would be a real smokey selection, but Morris has raved about his running ability and he certainly would have garnered some attention with his blond hair and ability to fly for his grabs.

We should select Sam Davidson in the MSD…the kid is a very smart footballer…runs all day

Went for a mark on HBF near boundary with high elevation and fell back awkwardly and landed on his neck.
Mate he got smashed in the head by the Bulldogs player who didn't even look at the ball ... happened right in front of me ... was reportable but even with 4 umpires the bloke with the best view was this good looking rooster in the crowd lol

He landed awfully on his neck afterwards which was the major concern. 😝 I was too busy looking at the blonde babe 10m to your left.

How good was Bauer yesterday, this kid is going to be a bloody good footballer.
I'm confused as to which position he is suited to. We need a forward but he was sensational up back.
Wherever his best position is. If that is third tall in the Vlastuin/Grimes/Broad mould then so be it.

Always looked way more comfortable down back for me.

But can go forward and ice a game.
What do we need more, backs or forwards. I think that is pretty obvious right now.
The type of forward Bauer is isn't what we need. He's too small. However, with Grimes slowing down there's a spot there for a third tall defender.

Yes that may be so, but what made Grimes great is that he could play tall and small, Bauer is a marking player not a stopper. We have a lot of backman, with Brown, Trezise, hopefully Smith all showing good signs. Young and Miller, Vlastuin, Broad, Rioli etc.

Up forward we have Lynch, sometimes and Lefau. Bauer is not to short as a third tall. He is mobile and has a great leap and knows how to use it. Jeremy Howe when he goes forward always kicks goals and is dangerous and much the same size.

Good effort. Trezise and Bauer should be playing seniors very soon. Same as McAuliffe.
Would have won that game if Tresize and Bauer had played the last quarter ... and of course if we hadn't lost the Captain Lachlan Street ... looks like another ACL ...

Absolutely love going to watch the VFL side ... there are a few premiership players that would benefit from a run in this side ... Macca even found some footy on the weekend ... Grimes should come in ... and try and help this side win a premiership now that Mutaz is out for 2 months ... he could even retire from AFL and give his spot to Mutaz and do it

The skipper Lachie Street has done his ACL now too :'(
if it's the incident i'm thinking of, it was a sharp, quick jolt of him jarring/locking out his knee for a split second, falling to ground, and getting up instantly, managing to "jog it off"

definitely sucks to hear since he was a mr. fixit for us anywhere on the ground, even had stints as a ruckman as a 189cm giant

the side will definitely miss him

hope his recovery goes well

mcauliffe shouldve had 3 goals on the w/e missed a sitter. 3 goals 25d 10 tackle games are pretty bloody rare.
what is stopping us from playing him? waiting till hoppers back so he can have a bit of protection in there maybe?
grahams meant to be that but heck knows what hes actually doing on the field cause hes not touching the footy and hes not tackling.

MacAuliffe needs run in his legs. He would have struggle with the spread of AFL earlier on, maybe still will. They gave him the sub's vest one week followed by stand-over players the next. 2 weeks of little footy is hardly a good grounding to bring a young player in. 2 good weeks now in a row, they can't keep him out any longer the way we are being cut up around the ball.

He's had a bit of a stop-start season. He'll be back this week surely.

Out: Mutaz El Nour, Noah Cumberland, Liam George (omitted)

This week is a big game for the VFL program as they take on the top of the table Western Bulldogs in a big Mothers Day clash at Punt Road Oval. The Tigers side who has had limited access to AFL listed players as we've battled an injury crisis will be boosted by the returns of Jacob Bauer from injury, while Sam Naismith & Kamdyn McIntosh both come into the side after being omitted from the AFL side this week. It will be the first time in weeks that there have been 10 AFL listed players selected in the VFL side. The Dogs on the other hand will have 15 AFL listed players running around including last years R1 pick in Ryley Sanders. Unfortunately the Tigers have been dealt a blow with highly regarded defender Mutaz El Nour suffering an injury which will see him miss an extended period.

The Tigers have been playing some pretty good footy this year despite being undermanned when it comes to AFL listed players, with their only loss being against last years runners up in Werribee. This game should be a very good game, with the Tigers looking to secure their spot in the top 8 as we head into the guts of the VFL season. There are a few Tigers to keep an eye on, with young ruck/forward Samson Ryan knocking on the door of a senior return, while young guns in McAuliffe Coulthard Green Trezise & Smith will also be keen to push for senior selection. I'm really looking forward to seeing Sanders & McAuliffe go head to head in what should be the first of many encounters the pair will have at senior level.

As much as I'd like to tip the Tigers here, I just think the Dogs will be too strong with their AFL listed players and should get the win by about 3-4 goals.
Can you pump out the VFL preview for this Sunday at Sandringham Chief so we can start the focus on that game ... important match to keep our premiership chances alive ... going to catch the train down from Richmond to Sandringham and get on the cans

I have a really bloody out there completely left of field idea for the type of forwards we need ...

How about we put six forwards on the park all capable of kicking a bag of goals ... small, tall, medium ... whatever ... we won in 17-20 because we had a game plan that fit our playing list ... ever since we been trying to fit players into a plan.

Forgot the pressure and forward half tackles ... stop chasing the opposition and make them chase us ... it's all bloody backwards ...

Let some blokes off the leash to kick goals ... Tresize, Short, Rioli played their junior footy as forwards ... their eyes light up when they get a sniff ... instead of beating the hungry out of Cumberland so he can chase backman ... maybe we should have found out whether anyone could have stopped him ...

He kicked 19.13 from his first 9 AFL games - 32 scoring shots. Who is the leading goal kicker from 9 games this year?? Too slow ... Bolton has 17.8 from his 9 games.

We have a squad full of backman and midfielders ... (play Bauer forward and Kosi back this week at VFL)

Recruit goal kickers!! Lachlan Hosie, kicked 6 in the SANFL grand final last year and won the Ken Farmer medal would be a great get for our VFL chances this year and an actual natural forward.... McLaughlin at Williamstown knows how to kick a goal he bloody he won the Frosty Miller for VFL goal kicking last year!!!

Maybe use the MSD this way and bring in two experienced blokes who won premierships and their league goal kicking last year or am I just making too much sense ???

Simply put ... let's have a forward line of blokes that are HUNGRY for a sausage roll ... and use our elite defenders to find them all alone

(because they will be because they didn't waste their time chasing some defender)

WHAT A GREAT RANT IF I DON'T SAY SO MYSELF

Would be good if he only managed 12 AFL appearances this year so he could still play VFL finals.

Yze should stop naming players coming out of the VFL as Sub. If they are not good enough for a full game then they should get a full game in the VFL to get better ...

Finals are far from a guarantee with our injury list. How many will play VFL this week? even the VFL listed players like Street are getting injured, they could be fielding an absolutely shocking side this week and we only sit 7th at the moment.
