Round 4

A quarter of the season is done, thought I don't know how true that is if there's only 1 game in Round 15, and we're already seeing who might be the standout players of the season. What did Round 4 have to offer though?

Well, there were 2 instances where a team doubled their score in the last quarter and got the victory as well. The East Side Phoenix were having trouble at 3 Quarter-Time when they were over 5 goals behind the Royals but managed to score 11 goals to 4 to come out 9-points winners. The Fighting Furies also overcame a hefty margin of 20 points at the last break but a 10-goal to 3 last term against the Bombers helped Fighting to reverse the margin.

The Foundation Cup was also played but the Wonders kept the Demons well away from causing any trouble in their match, as the Dragons came out on top during the second half of the game in a low-scoring mud-fest against the Swamprats. Ophidian cruised past the Gumbies to almost be in the 8 despite the penalties while the Roys bested the Bears in a bog-standard affair.

So with that out of the way, the Round 4 predictions look like this:

Could we already be seeing a winner emerge at this early stage?

Round 5
Round 5 had 2 close contests of differing intensities. First, we had the Demons and Dragons taking turns monstering each other in the rain with the 3 Quarter-Time margin being 7 points in favour of Mount Buller. The Demons then kicked 2 goals to be in front by 3.5 goals with 6 minutes remaining which is all the time Dragons took to kick the last 4 goals of the game, including the last 2 goals scored in the last 80 seconds.
Then we had the Phoenix who had a much larger margin of 34 points at the last break against the Furies. 20 minutes later, Fighting had doubled their score and was up by 2 points. Had the Phoenix not kicked the winning goal with 4 minutes left on the clock, that would've been one of the biggest defensive blunders Sweet had ever seen.

The Wonders and the Roys were also having trouble getting the best over the other until Roys ran away with the win in the 4th quarter as the other matches saw the Bombers keep the Gumbies to a second consecutive score under 50, the Bears made easy work of the Royals in the rainy weather while the Warriors Full-Forward scored 12 goals in an 11-goal victory over the Swamprats.

So who made the most of these results and scored highly in the Predictor? Well, I suppose these people did.

We'll have a look at the Leader-Board at Round 6, okay?

Round 6
Round 6 and the sim sure does love a good comeback. A game can't be close for 4 quarters, it has to be lopsided until the last quarter where the losing side suddenly gets a second wind and runs over the opposition to get the win. In this week's edition: Coney Island was up by almost 5 goals after a minute after the last break. Now that it's after the match we know that their opponents, the Gold City Royals, kick the necessary amount of goals to reach that initial target. However, we also know that the Royals let the Warriors kick 2 goals in the middle to keep Gold City at bay as well as the Royal's last scoring shot being a minor score. The 4 points got Coney Island to the top of the ladder as another Royals loss got them closer to the bottom.

We also had 2 games stay close for the first 3 quarters as the Bears and Old Boys were on the same score at the last change while a see-sawing affair between the Bombers and the Phoenix had East Side only up by 2 points at the same stage. As I said though, we can't seem to have a game stay close all game as the Phoenix and Bears put on the afterburners to secure the victory. Other games of the round saw the Furies early dominance see off the Dragons, the Gumbies fight off the Wonders and the wind to get their win and the Swamprats have no trouble beating the Roys.

Round 6, how's that early form going?

Single-digit games left now, will we have a late season bolter?

Round 7
Round 7 and the smallest winning margin for the weekend was 25 points and only 1 Home team got the 4 points. Talking about that 25-point game, the Bombers were only 7 points behind the Bears with 8 minutes remaining in the game but Las Vegas scoring 3 unanswered goals to finish the game killed the contest. The Dragons were also winning a tight game against the Gumbies in a low-scoring affair, ahead by 1 point going into the last quarter. Well, it was low scoring, until the Gumbies scored 7 goals to 1 to jump into the Top 4 leaving the Dragons out of the Top 8 and the rest of the games were just cruisy wins.

Let's quickly go over them. The Demons had a full team effort to make light work of the Roys, the Warriors monstered the Furies (including unnecessarily keeping the Furies goalless in the last quarter), the Swamprats kept the Royals at bay to send Gold City to the bottom on the ladder and the Old Boys became half a game outside the Top 8 despite their penalties thanks to their win over the Wonders.

Alright, that's Round 7, and the vote-getters this round are...

Pretty sure that means there's a new leader. Let's check in with that next round.

Round 8
Round 8, the hypothetical mid-way point of this season, and there were 3 games that went down to the absolute wire.

The Demons managed to eek out an 1-point win over the Phoenix, thanks to a literal last-minute goal from local hype man cooney, the Bears slowly whittled away at the Swamprats margin over the last quarter but let Sin City slip away too many times to catch-up while the Royals locked the qooty down in their forward half to end their arm-wrestle with the Old Boys.

Other results saw the Wonders end the Warriors' winning streak in comfortable fashion, a 10-goal second quarter saw the Gumbies get over the Furies and the Roys made light work of the Bombers.

Round 9

Round 9 and there wasn't a single blowout game. However, there weren't any games where the eventual winner was in any danger of losing once time-on started in the last quarter.

The Swamprats went from an 8-point lead to a 27-point one midway through the 4th before the Old Boys got it back to 6 points but weren't able to keep the ball away from the Sin City goals to challenge for a draw. The Demons and Gumbies were having their tussle until the Gumbies scored the last 4 goals of the game while the Bombers held the lead for a minute in between the Warriors having double-digit margins.

We also had the Wonders surviving a late barrage of goals in the last 5 minutes of the game to stay ahead of the Bears, the Dragons were close at times against the Phoenix but ultimately ran out of puff while the Furies cruised past the Roys.

Here's how the Predictor saw Round 9

Round 10
Round 10, just a handful of games left now, and the Phoenix and Gumbies had one of the best games of the season. 6 lead changes in the last quarter, and it was anyone's game to win until the last 5 minutes of the game where the Gumbies locked down the qooty in front of their goal but kept kicking behinds whenever they had it. On the other hand, they kicked enough behinds to put the game away so the forwards did do their job.

The Warriors also tried to have a close game with the Demons, but could only manage to play catch-up as Mount Buller never let Coney Island within a goal of the lead; meanwhile the Furies, despite their spoon aspirations, ran away with their victory over the Bears thanks to a 10-goal to 1 third quarter.

We also saw the Roys stay well ahead of the Dragons, the Bombers survived a scare from the Old Boys before scoring the last 5 goals and the Royals walked all over the Wonders for their win.

That's Round 10, but what did the Predictor think?

Round 11
Round 11, there's still all to play for and we even have a 3-way tie for first! But first, the results.

Furies tried their best to hold off the Swamprats in the final quarter but Sin City saw out the tussle with the last 3 goals of the game which could be the difference between making finals or not. The big event of the round wasn't a close result though. The Phoenix scored their first goal in their game against the Bears within 7 minutes of the match starting but then took 73 minutes to score their 2nd goal in the 4th quarter. The game saw 3 goalless quarters as Las Vegas got one of the easiest 4 points you'll ever see.

The Demons got another win against the strong-finishing Royals, showing that their terrible season earlier this year is well and truly behind them, while the Dragons powered home against the Old Boys which further planted Ophidian at the bottom of the ladder. The remaining games saw an accurate Bombers team unaffected by the rain get over the Wonders as the Warriors won one of the most lop-sided 1v2 matchups ever with a triple-digit margin over the Gumbies.

As such, we now have the following...

Round 12
Round 12, and we had our first draw for the season!
The Demons entered the last quarter of their game against the Bears almost 5 goals up and would've thought this was going to be a 3rd win in a row when they scored another early on. Las Vegas, however, had other ideas when they scored the next 3 goals in 2 minutes. Unfortunately for the Bears, that's where their accuracy ended, as they scored 1 goal 4 for the rest of the term and even allowed Mount Buller to get another goal leading to the deadlock.

The Swamprats and Wonders had their arm-wrestle, with 7 lead changes in the final quarter. Neither side was able to break the goal-kicking shootout, with the Wonders winning on the rule of last-goal wins. Meanwhile, the Dragons' historic dominance over the Warriors continued with a 13-point win. While Coney Island was ahead during the second quarter, the Warriors never troubled the Dragons at any point of the second half.

Other games saw the Bombers pile on a 7-goal to 1 final quarter to down the Royals, the Old Boys won comfortably over their old team the Furies while Roys piled on the goals against the Phoenix for one of the highest scores for the season.

3 votes separate the equal 1st from equal 6th, will the actual Mobbs night be this exciting?
