Another season, another Heritage Round … usually headlined by a lot of meaningful stats about your club and it’s chosen opponent for this round. While is it accepted practice to acknowledge your opponent and engage in banter with them, let’s stop for a moment and consider … what is the culture of our club and what are our traditions which come from the past and are still important to us?

While game statistics are a nice way to measure success in the form of awards and trophies, they are not the reason clubs survive and prosper in this very serious very real fake fantasy footy league also known as the Sweet Football Association, which is a sub-forum on the very popular social networking platform, BigFooty. It is the stories told about clubs and its members that preserve and promote the history and heritage of any organisation.

Part of the heritage of our club comes from our home ground, part from our club name, folklore, how the other clubs perceive us, club leadership and so on. Then there are the names whispered among the hallowed halls of the club that personify who we are and what we stand for.

This is a good opportunity for clubs to take stock and find out “do we have a heritage to be proud of?” and check what we are doing to pass it on to the next generation.

All you rookies have now had a couple of games to look at the SFA and you probably have more questions than answers at this stage. The newbies are into their second and third seasons and are probably getting a handle on some of the banter that refers to events many seasons before they arrived on the scene.

Now is the time to talk to your club leadership and delve more deeply into what it is to be part of your club’s heritage. Some of the questions you could start with include:
Who are our club legends and why are they considered legends?
Who are the characters that embody the spirit of our club? How?
What are we famous for?
What are the biggest stories about our past that are funny, controversial or club defining?

Leadership Groups now is the time for some housekeeping at your club.
Is our history up to date?
How easy is it to find our history?
What do we stand for and what makes our club the best to be part of? How can we promote this when recruiting?

So, the challenge to all players for this week is to think about what you want to be remembered for, what part you played in your clubs history, how did you contribute to your clubs success? It is time to be brave, be bold, contribute something meaningful to the SFA community so that when Heritage Round is played in 10 seasons from now, your name will be part of the story.

Club Captains, please do your thing and get your teams in before the deadline, this is not the round to get yourself suspended for missing a comma or any other manufactured reason. Please also introduce your clubs guernsey for the round and explain the meaning behind the design and how it relates to your Heritage.

Now for one statistic that relates to the games being played this week:
Head to head – Hawks 31 Draw 0 Roys 26

Ok, screw the stats, let’s regale each other with the stories, promote the highlights, downplay the lowlights, celebrate the characters, and show off the history of our clubs. Even better if it somehow intertwines with the current opposition of the week. The best story/reminiscing entries that tag me in this week will be featured as my “Three things I learned this week” contribution.

Over to you Sweet FA.

That's actually a really awesome OP. I'll remember to read it a second time on Tuesday! I am proud to be able to say I was actually doing a spot of club history research when I saw 6 alerts and stopped to come check them out.

Nice OP Jabba73 !

After 2 weeks at playing at home The Eyrie we get to play again at home but this week we are playing at our original venue Waverley Park which has been remodeled thanks to a large sum of $$$ from Biggie and other Club Legends for renovations, Hawks name change etc etc etc etc

Which honours wce_all_da_way who started the Club back in 2005

Fun fact : wce_all_da_way led the boys out in our practice match this pre-season and snagged 6 goals, could've done with those 6 goals last Sunday and maybe another 6 😂

This Sunday we will be wearing our brand new Heritage Guernsey
