Brilliant Ron. How about a list of the most consecutive games with at least one goal?

This table is listed every year in the AFL Record Season Guide, but with McKenna's figure mysteriously given as 120, despite the same start and end points and the same number of games listed each season in the "Players who have kicked 400 goals or more" section.

Longest consecutive runs from debut:

That game, plus the two instances of most marks and the "constant rushed behinds" (a reference to a single 2008 match against Essendon) all occurred in the last 22 games of Bowden's career. Well before that he was a dual b&f winner and dual All-Australian. It's odd sometimes, the things players are remembered for.

Fletcher done for the season, I think he will go round one more time. I'd be fairly sure now that Boomer will pass Fletch next year. Would be a awesome if they both played their 400th against each other.

Richmond are 12th with just 3 games to go. Surely they can't make the Final Eight?

Or can they emulate the 1995 Brisbane side? With 3 rounds to go, Brisbane faced a good opponent (top 4) yet managed a fabulous win. This weekend, Richmond also face a good opponent (AD, away) who most would expect to win. Can Richmond get over this 1st hurdle?

In the final round in 1995, Brisbane had a must-win game against a side in the 8 who had beaten them earlier in the season. This year, in the last round, Richmond too will have a must-win game against a side in the 8 who has beaten them earlier in the season.

| | R12 | R17 | 3 rounds to go | finish
\ Brisbane | 1995 | 13th | 12th | 12th | 8th
\ Richmond | 2014 | 13th | 12th | 12th | ???
I'm sure many people will be hoping for a Richmond victory this weekend.

Slight difference. In 1995, Brisbane got in the top 8 by only winning 44% of their games (10/22). Richmond may still win 12 games and miss out.
In 1996, Richmond won 11 games, and finished 9th. In 1994, Richmond won 12 games - there were only 15 teams - and finished 9th. In 1997, Brisbane won less than half their games - 10w1d - and finished 8th. In 1998, Richmond again won 12 games (more than half) - guess what? From 1994-98, Richmond won 12, 15, 11, 10, 12 games - and made the finals once.

There have been 3 occasions where a team won less than half it's games and snuck into the 8 - Brisbane (95, 97) and Essendon (2009). Interestingly, in the 16-tem final-8 era (1994-2010), there were only 2 occasions where a team won exactly half it's games (11) and got into the 8 - but there were 11 occasions where an 11-win team missed out. The reason being the really bad teams tend to lose more games than the really good teams win.

Since the final 8 was introduced (and there were 16 teams), there have been 5 times where a time has missed the 8 despite winning more than half it's games. Hawthorn (2003), North (also 2003), St Kilda (2007), and Richmond 2 times (98, 2008). (Richmond also won 12 games in a 15-team comp in 1994 and missed out. It breeds character in the supporters!!:p)

Now there are 18 teams, 12 wins may/may not get you in. Probably not.

Just trying to give Richmond supporters some hope!

I stand by my last comment, many of us (for various reasons) will be hoping for a Richmond win this week.

Tonight, Mick Malthouse will break the record for most H&A games as coach:

| H&A | FIN | TOTAL
\ Jock McHale | 655 | 58 | 713
\ Mick Malthouse| 655 | 52 | 707

Is it poor of me to wish McHale kept the record? It always seemed like something that would stand the test of time.

What other records does McHale hold? Off the top of my head he had 49 seasons of coaching, that'd be the most by some margin, what else?

most combined games played & coached
most flags coached
oldest coach (excluding one game as a fill-in by Checker Hughes)
only coach to miss a GF!

Malthouse has coached 428 games more than his nearest current rival (Thompson). He holds the 'record' of 429 games, set briefly when Eade resigned in late 2011 and Worsfold was next on the list.

Just noticed Hawthorn's total For v Against score in HA games tipped into the positive for the first time ever last weekend.

On a related note, Richmond has closed to within 61 points of getting back into the black.

If that was a stock RTB it probably would make a strong buy!

Richmond already have uniquely taken themselves from 3-10 to 10-10, will be quite exciting if they can storm into the finals on the back of a 9-0 winning streak.

And with that Hawthorn stat, just to add even more spice to the upcoming Cats/Hawks game, although it will depend on what happens tomorrow too with Freo. A long period of excellent performances by the Hawks to make up that deficit in points, and it's probably not too long before they also go 50/50 with wins. For a while the Tigers, particularly in 2010-2011 may have been heading towards also dipping into sub-50% territory but the last couple of seasons has arrested the loss rate and seen them return to solid outputs. Pretty safe above 50% now for a few years.

Just thinking if the Eagles won today, we'd have had six teams on a 10-10 record, from 7th to 12th on the table. That would have made one heck of a fight for the finals. No brainer i am sure, but that would have been unique by this stage of a year? However it was not to be.

Lenny Hayes is on target to end his career with more tackles than any other player in history. He needs 21 more with 4 games to go and is averaging 6.6 per game this year. Only once this year has he had less than 5 tackles.

http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players.html#t7
Lenny has had a disappointing couple of weeks with 4 tackles in each of the last two weeks.

He's now 11 behind Jude Bolton's all-time record with 2 games remaining.

Today, Melbourne fluffed their last legitimate chance to score 100.

Thus, they will be the first team since North Melbourne in 1972 to not score 100 once during the season.

I think this is right. We know that Brisbane in 1995 made the finals with a 10-12 record.

They are also the only 4-11 / 5-11 / 6-11 / 7-11 / 7-12 / 8-12 / 9-12 side to make the finals*.

However, if Richmond make the finals this year, they will be the first 3-10 side to do so*.

* in the Final 6/8 era

In all likelihood, Richmond will be 8th going into the last round, but will miss the finals.

Post 1990 and the Final 5, other teams to be in with 1 game to go ... then out a week later:
1991 - Collingwood (6th to 7th)
1992 - Carlton (5th to 7th)
1994 - Richmond (8th to 9th)
1995 - Melbourne (8th to 9th)
1996 - Richmond (8th to 9th)
2002 - Geelong (8th to 9th)
2004 - Fremantle (8th to 9th)
2005 - Fremantle (7th to 10th)
2013 - Essendon (7th to 9th) [ASADA]

As they did in 1994 and 1996, Richmond this year will again play a top 4 side in the final round.

They are also the only 4-11 / 5-11 / 6-11 / 7-11 / 7-12 / 8-12 / 9-12 side to ever make the finals.

However, if Richmond make the finals this year, they will be the first 3-10 side to do so.

Are you referring to the final 8 only? Fitzroy were 5-11 in 1984 and made the final 5.
