After the great debates going on about forwards I think it's time to discuss your top 10 defenders, this one is not so predictable and could throw up some curly ones. Please guys, try your best not to be biased :drunk::drunk:

1. Daniel Talia - Adel
2. Cale Hooker - Ess
3. Scott Thompson - Nth
4. Alex Rance - Rich
5. Josh Gibson - Haw
6. Harry Taylor - Geel
7. Michael Johnson - Fre
8. Eric Mckenzie - Wce
9. Brian Lake - Haw
10. Michael Hurley - Ess

Essendon are in a really great position with KP depth, Carlisle I believe is better than both Hooker and Hurley as a defender so he could easily slot straight into the top spot. Some stiff guys to miss out include Steven May, Ted Richards, Alipate Carlisle and Luke Mcpharline.

Eric Mackenzie
Cale Hooker
Daniel Talia
Alex Rance
Scott Thompson
Tom Lonergan
Ted Richards
Luke McPharlin
Harry Taylor
Josh Gibson( not a typical KPD but a lot better then the next option IMO)

Mackenzie being number 1? honestly? OP asked for non biased selections. As far as a defender goes Hooker and Talia are much better.

I rate Mackenzie as number one, he's awesome one on one, has great balance and delivery. Talia and Hooker edge him defensively but his disposal is the best outta the three and edges the other two with flexibility to play smaller.

Open ze eyes.

Mackenzie is first class, and that is a non biased view.

Why? Mackenzie is a class defender but as far as an overall package he's behind Hooker and Talia, probably sitting 3rd or 4th.. I'll think more about it and post.

Harry Taylor
Daniel Talia
Cale Hooker
E Mac
Alex Rance
James Frawley
Scott Thompson
Luke mcpharlin
Ben Reid
Michael Johnson

The last 3 are all dependent on fitness, ben Reid in particular could be higher with a solid run of games. Gibson would come after Rance but with Frawley and Lake in the team he won't be playing key post this year. Frawley there as a prediction for how he will fare in a competent team and Taylor #1 based over last 5 years rather than just last year. Talia will have the best career of the bunch (individual accolades wise).

Surprised at how high people rate Scott Thompson. He's a very good footballer, but he's not a legitimate key defender, he's a 2nd or 3rd tall. He gets monstered by the biggest and best key forwards - Hawkins, Cloke, Roughy, Buddy etc.

Talia, MacKenzie, Hooker and Rance from Lonergan and Taylor (who benefit playing together in defined roles) then Lake (who's Mr September really) are all clearly above Scott Thompson.

Frawley will be back in the top 10 if not top 5 this year. He's going to have a field day at Hawthorn.

He's the height of a medium defender but often plays as a KPD. He was playing out of position for large stints of 2014 because he had to play a mix of his own role whole simultaneously filling in the role that Grima and Hansen plays, which is probably who North are beginning to stock up on KPD in the draft. In 2013, Thompson was comfortably above Talia, MacKenzie, Hooker, Rance, Lake and Lonergan and on par with Taylor (who I rate as a very good footballer).

Thompson played with a broken rib last year don't forget that. His game against franklin at the start of the season was so good that the swans fans were Bronx cheering buddy when he got a mark in the 4th quarter. I won't forget the way that many of them turned on him
