The Tyrese going soft is territory they have already ventured with Carol and Rick. With Carol it was the inverse; she was too hard, too extreme with some of her measures, so they kicked her out. Now Carol's thuggish attitude is exactly what they need.

With Rick, it was the reverse. He went all pussy farmer Rick, had to come back hard realising you need to be in this world now.

With Tyrese, it'll be what? He was a badass, went soft, stayed that way and will be kicked out for it?

This show can be all over the place with its messages.

Don't remember this story from the comics, if there even was a story.

Definitely remember the Bob-BQ story albeit with a different character and what happens next.
