Barring exceptional circumstances the round 11 match between the Power and the Roos will feature Ken Hinkleys 259th game in charge without a grand final appearance.

In the process he will overtake former Fitzroy and Essendon head coach Bill Stephens current world record.

Hinkley has thrown up a mixed bag in finals, 2013 saw an upset of Collingwood at the MCG then a hard fought loss to the Cats, 2014 was the famous " lose the toss and kick with the wind " demolition of the Tigers and a Robbie Gray driven comeback win over Freo in Perth before the Hawks pipped them in a prelim thriller. 2017 saw them lose in an eliminator in style to a Luke Shuey kick after the siren in extra time.

In more recent times the power under Hinkley mauled Geelong then pushed the Tigers to the brink before coughing it up in 2020. A year later they destroyed Geelong again only to roll over and present to the battered weary Dogs to the tune of 71 points at home in an unloseable game in 2021.

2023 saw a limp wristed straight sets exit including a home loss to the Giants after a two year extension for Hinkley was announced by David Koshe.

Hinkley seems to the be the Teflon Don. Failure is rewarded and i wouldnt be suprsied to see him crack 350 games coached without a grand final. Just what are Port Adelaide playing at?

Early days yet. Sam Mitchell's only just getting started.

Yeah only another 10 years to go. Mitchell is a proven winner on field as well. Knows what it takes. Hinkley never made it as player and has shown no signs he can make it as a coach.

Even brad scott coached North Melbourne made it to a prelim.

FWIW he came outright 3rd in the 1992 Brownlow. Must have had some ability as a player.....

The coaching part however agree 100%.

Matt Priddis has won a Brownlow, it's a popularity contest judged by umpires. Personally I don't rate it.
