Wow, stay classy Turkish soccer fans.

Booing during a minutes silence for french victims.
They weren't booing DP. Here is a Turk who has posted about it:

"If you understand Turkish and listen they are not booing or showing disrespect for the dead in Paris. What they are actually saying in Turkish is " Martyrs don't die, the Nation will NOT be divided" talking about the innocent victims both soldiers and civilians that have died in Turkey, as a result of Terrorist attacks. It is a sign of RESPECT NOT DISRESPECT."

If its the case, why not save it for AFTER the minutes silence?
Watching the video there are some people chanting what may be what you're saying, but theres more that are just making random noise.

Rest of his post:

So where ever you see this news article you may want to set them straight. They do it all just about all their soccer matches when there is a minutes silence for victims of terrorism, NOT JUST THE FRENCH."

Tweets starting on twitter that more arrests have been made after anti terror raids, gunfire traded and police officers may have been shot.

Edit: some reporting those that were raided are dead rather than arrested.

AT least three of the terror suspects targeted in the Saint-Denis police operation are dead, including a woman who blew herself up with an explosive belt, according to French media reports.

Police officers and armed military officers have surrounded an apartment in the northern Paris suburb of Saint-Denis where the mastermind of the deadly Paris attacks is believed to be holed up.

It is believed one terrorist is still holed up in the apartment.

According to French media reports, a woman with a suicide belt was one of the terrorists that was killed during the raid. She reportedly blew herself up.

A second terrorist was killed by a police sniper, according to reports from Sky News.

Sky News has also reported that a passer-by was killed in the incident.

First ever suicide by a woman for Daesh.

I think it's highly debateable as to whether we have actually had two terrorist attacks in Sydney.

Monis wasn't a terrorist, he was an attention seeking, murdering *******. If he was a real terrorist he would have killed a few people once he realised that some hostages had escaped. I honestly believe that everyone could have gotten out alive excluding Monis. It wasn't about terrorism, it was about his ego.

I also tend to not listen to people who call a 15 yo, who murdered an innocent man, a terrorist when they worship that cop killer Ned Kelly.

Booing during a minutes silence for french victims.

Turkey played Greece in an international friendly held at the Fatih Terim stadium in Istanbul yesterday but it was the minute silence held for the victims of the Paris attacks that drew most of the post-match attention.

Turkish fans were accused of shouting Allahu Ekber (God is great) during the minute silence in the media such as this article from the Daily Mail.

There are a few matters that need to be cleared up. Firstly there were a section of fans whistling which may seem strange if you are not used to Turkish football culture but silences held before games rarely ever last the full minute. The main issue however, is the perception in Turkey that selective grief is being practiced. Over 100 people were recently blown up in a bomb attack in Ankara in addition to the countless other terrorist attacks that unfolded in the country over the past year but they did not receive the same kind of attention from UEFA during international or European competition games. It should not really come as much of a surprise that some fans are frustrated with how the reaction to terorrism seems to differ depending on the country in which it was perpetrated.

Two wrongs however, do not make a right and while whistling during the silence was distasteful the rumour claiming the fans were chanting Allahu Ekber as if they were celebrating the attacks could not be further from the truth.

The majority of fans were chanting a popular anti-terror slogan which basically translates to ‘martyrs never die the country will not be divided.’

Now regarding another popular chant – Ya Allah Bismillah Allahu Ekber – it is used predominantly in nationalist circles and derives from the Ottoman military marching bands. The bands songs were traditionally used to rally the troops but fans in football games use them to try and rally the players.

Turkish folk are no stranger to acts of terrorism having lived with the problem for decades. Many will be fully aware of the trauma Parisians are currently going through and sympathise with French people.

There were countless vigils held across Turkey for the victims of the attacks in Paris and the Bosphorus bridge was lit up at night with the French Tricolore. May the victims of terrorism in France, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and all other countries in the world rest in peace.

Terrorism? They both killed in the name of islam so the semantics are irrelevant I suppose. Call it what you like. Being a spin doctor by profession I had to laugh at the term they first used about the 15yo. They described it as an act of 'politically motivated violence'. Could just imagine the meeting of all the relevant authorities trying to think of term to use instead of terrorism. All of a sudden they all used the same phrase. PM, Chief Comm, State Prem etc etc etc. 'Politically motivated violence' - that would be terrorism. Semantics. Hate to think I agree with DarwinRoo but 100% with you on Ned Kelly.

Imagine a first generation immigrant getting a gang of friends together stealing s**t and ambushing police now.

They'd be a media delight and painted as worse than Hitler. Their heritage degenerated to build fear.

Such is life? Yeah when you killed coppers in the 19th century you tended to end up dead.

2 believed to be Jihadist gunmen have taken 170 people hostage in a West African hotel. 3 Confirmed dead so far.

AUTHORITIES are currently raiding the West African hotel at the centre of a siege.

AT least three people have been killed after two gunmen, reported to be jihadists, took 170 people hostage at a hotel in Mali, West Africa.

The alarm was raised when the US embassy posted to Twitter warning locals of an “ongoing active shooter operation” at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako, a hotel reportedly popular with French expats.

A government minister has confirmed at least three people have lost their lives in the siege. It is believed they were two locals and one French national.

Reports saying 80 of the hostages have been freed and over 130 remain inside the hotel. French and US Special Forces are on the scene now assisting Mali police and military as the situation remains an ongoing stalemate.

Bloody hell the world's f***ed ATM.

Mali update: siege is over. Reports of 18-27 dead. Some gunmen still being flushed out of the 7th floor (where an Air France crew was staying before they were whisked to safety) by special forces. Surviving hotel guests have been evacuated.

It's becoming like listening to "around the grounds" via the wireless as the updated scores are read out in Paris, Mali, Raqqa, The West Bank, Beirut etc etc.

"3KZ isssssss terrorism..............."

Media reporting the female suicide bomber was not actually a suicide bomber. Police reports now saying she was standing next to someone who was wearing a suicide vest

Also the final terrorist from the original attack is believed to be on the run from daesh as he's believed to have chickened out on setting his vest off

I thought this thread was about condolences, not a running commentary on every news event that occurs.
Condolences and factual updates.
Debate in the lounge thread.

Except you haven't been giving factual updates. See your post on Turks before.
Which is what was being reported at the time. GR corrected it. And still people were whistling and cheering during which was not the chant described.

Which goes to show not everything being reported is factual and that you can't be sure that anything else you post is correct.

Good reason to give it a rest.
