The Grunt Match Report - Rd 4

Tom Bell was the standout of the opening quarter and set the tone for the rest of his match, kicking the only two goals of the first term for the Blues.

However it was Bell who was the standout for the Blues, finishing with 23 disposals, nine tackles and three goals. The midfielder told carltonfc.com.au that his teammates were disappointed in being run over in the final term.
“We really had a chance to finish a good side, but missed our opportunities while they took theirs,” Bell said post-match.
“Probably a few of us strayed away from our roles, which is something we normally pride ourselves on.
“I’ve got confidence in our midfield cohort. I reckon it will be just a matter of the whole team regrouping (and getting) ready for next week.”

Great effort from Belly to kick 3 goals and be named BOG for the Northern Blues.

With Gibbs set to miss at least one match with his hamstring injury, a spot opens up for the best performed at VFL level and Bell clearly put himself right into contention.

Would love to see him have an extended run through the middle of the ground against the Demons.

Love this photo of the Big Bell. Edited and sharing is caring...

Got a big wrap from 'self-confessed Carlton hater who grew up a carlton supporter' Cam Mooney on SEN on Monday. Must be doing something right to impress someone who was too busy frothing over Norf during the game.

Tom Bell ready to step up for Carlton, says teammate Kade Simpson
Champion Data statistics show he excelled at stoppages and had the third-best clearance differential of any player at the club who played at least three matches. He had the highest contested possession rate of any Carlton midfielder and his tackling efficiency was second only to the pugnacious Ed Curnow.

If Bell is to emerge as an elite player, he will need to improve his kicking. The Blues retained possession from just 38 per cent of his kicks last season, 21 per cent below the AFL average. He preferred to kick long than short, as part of team’s game plan.

so much potential here,
possibly has the potential to get the most Kg to the most contests of any player. need to learn to shepherd for the clean users like murph.

hard to see a carlton's midfield being pushed around with Bell in it.

Fallen under the radar again due to his injured hand.
It'd be nice for Bell to cement his place in the best 22 this year..

Talk about 22........Given the fact that he was recruited a mature-ager, has the body of a 30 year old and seems to have been around forever already, many may be surprised just how old Tommy is................He's 22..............23 soon but still a kid.

Bell's fitness wouldn't have gone backwards for injury and now that he has faith back in his hand, we should see a good back end to the year.
