I like the look of Lewis Johnston, would seriously love to have a sniff come trade week

He's an interesting one. Was keen on him when the Swans drafted him and disappointed when the Cows traded for him. Would be a fair way down the pecking order there right now. Not sure any enquiry from us would be viewed favourably tho. Worth a look IMO.

I doubt the Crows would get rid of Johnston, especially if Tippett leaves. Depth is king and the Crows have plenty of it.

Imagine if we said no to Schulz.
Yep.

Our key forward options:

Schulz (27)
Salter (25) Gone
D.Stew (23) Gone?
Butcher (21)

So a big age gap.

Dawes is 24, 193cms and 105kgs.

Down on confidence but if he can get his head right no reason he cant get back to 30 goals a season or more. Even if he is just taking a defender away from Butcher/Schulz like he is doing for Cloke it would be a good move.

Theres no way Adelaide are getting rid of Johnston after his finals series this year. Would be perfect CHF for us imo.

Meanwhile, another North game, another 30 disposals, 2 goals and 10 clearances to Bennett.

If Greenwood/Young/Newton played in the Thomas/Logan/Pfiffer role next year, regardless of win loss count, Redden and Butcher played 14-24 games and Lobbe and Hitchcock had injury free preseasons and sustained minimal injuries throughouit the year it would be welcomed by the Port Adelaide faithful!

I can actually see with the right guidence Lobbe becoming a key forward. He impressed me in the last couple of games. He can take a contested mark, is quicker than i thought, and can compete at, well in big man terms anyway at ground level. Need to find another spot for Butch. I know he has played all his footy as a forward, but as stated before, maybe not at this level. He can play though. His position at present, i am not sure of.

IIRC Lobbe started out as a ruckman at junior level.

Coming into his second under 18 year - he was deemed undersized for a ruckman (@ 195cm) so was played at CHF to improve his draft chances. He ended up kicking 19 goals in 19 appearances.

But towards the end of that year he grew another 4 cms ... so he was seen as a ruck again.

We need

A ruck who can play forward to compliment a developing Redden
A hard nut ball winner
A line breaking outside mid
A tall back
A running half back who can take the kickins
A genuine crumbling small forward

So we need just about everything. All options will be explored.

We have Three good Ruckmen that need an injury free preseason each, Redden, Renouf and Lobbe.
Hitchcock has shown glimpses of being around the mark, Banner has shown he is capable, Young went ok late in the year and Gray will be back. Again a completely injury free preseason is needed an then judged.
Both come down to Fitness staff, preparation and discipline.
Our kick in I think is more structural than personnel.
Outside Midfielder in Newton, AhChe and hopefuly pick 7.

We aren't to poorly set up, a key defender or two and another key forward definitely would not hurt.

We have the ability to play finals next year, fitness, Strength and conditioning, along with the right list management play the biggest part in our quick climb back to the pinnacle.

Lewis Johnston probably would have been a good get for us last year, although I suspect it wasn't a possibility when Brad Ebert became available.

Have heard though that Johnston may not necessarily have passed the "no d***heads" test.
