How about you play the ball, and state why you think the Pies will reject paying $600k for one of the better CHF in the league, rather than imply anyone who disagrees with you is an ignorant arse?
Play the ball? It gets me when people start throwing money/years around. It actually makes me chuckle. People on BF talk about money and contracts like they have just had a sneak peak at the paper work.

And do you know for FACT the pies rejected 600k? I have heard about 8 different scenarios from 20 different experts on what he wants. The only thing i can gather is the sticking point is a 5 year contract.

Im not having a go at you personally, just find it funny so many are quoting all these numbers based on what Robbo, Caro, Barrett etc are telling us.

Of course you have made this personal, you all but called me clueless in your last post, and last time I checked that was personal.

On point however, it's insulting to assume I'm just swallowing media dribble without any analysis:

1) this is firstly about what would the Pies be prepared to offer. he may not be their best player, but structurally IMO he is their most important. $600k is therefore a no brainer, same at $700k+, although now it starts to bite a bit. $800k is getting to the point however where you are starting to not only cut into other wages, BT getting Pendles and co asking "wtf!"

2) If a decent mid like Deledio is getting $500k+, Cloke easily commands more. Scarcity drives up his price because key forwards with runs on the board who are prepared to change clubs are few and far between. Freo, Melbourne, blues, and us have all been in play, so he is in demand.

3) Cloke is involved in this negotiation, and is a fool. Past negotiations with his sons have been just as bad, with Dad deluded over the value of his kids. This negotiation has been leaking to the media like a sieve, and who benefits from this? Pies are trying to lock in multiple deals, doesn't help them. Cloke IMO is hoping the feral army will be up in arms at the prospect of the golden child leaving his club, and tried to use the media to get popular support behind him. Only problem is its backfired, with pies fans losing patience by the day.

I personally believe Cloke thinks hes using the media, but they are playing him like a fiddle.

:thumbsu: All`s cool, you have just answered my post.

Just with a quick calculation there is only 4 sides , other than Collingwood who don't already have a better key forward than Cloke .
The rumoured price of above $500 k IMO is ridiculous money for a 2 ND KPF , which he would be if he came to us or another 12 clubs .
1 top 10 finish , in his clubs B&F in the last 4 years and he is apparently asking for a long term contract . If his management gain anything like has been reported they should be knighted .

I'll say this one last time, Cloke is a RESTRICTED FREE AGENT. This means Collingwood can match ANY offer they wish or can afford too. The only way ANY club gets Cloke is by paying him 900k+ per year. Anyone suggesting I'll take him for 600k but no more are wasting ure time. Collingwood still want Cloke for sure. Big power forwards don't grow on trees.

I think hes worth 900k-1mil and happy if he comes here, hopefully with us not paying the full cap we could heavily frontload a contract for hom. But by being restricted we really need to price him out off Collingwoods reach

Thanks WT, didn't realise this - a good point to make. With the restricted free agents - if collingwood match an offer, does that mean they keep him automatically or does Cloke get to choose from moving to that club or staying put? I understand that if Collingwood beats a rival offer, then Cloke can't move even if he wants to for less money (doubt he would anyway) unless he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

If they match the club that he wants tomgonto must make a trade with Collingwood for him or he just stays with collingwood. If he is that desperate to leave he can also enter the draft.
Most likely scenario is Collingwood matches the contract he will just stay with them.

To me that's the most unlikely scenario TCT. Collingwood have basically said our offer is there, take it or leave it and then gone about signing the rest of their side based on that number. Most all media reports have this figure (and term) at well below what Freo, Melbourne etc. are prepared to offer.

Cloke may agree to Collingwood's terms but that's a lot different to them matching a rival club's offer.

I think it will come down to how "greedy" Trav is, but given the way most similar situations have panned out when it's gotten to this point, I'd suggest he's gone.

I'd forget Freo, even for $1m+ he won't have his Mum to tuck him in at night.

Forget which forum, but saw someone say somewhere the ridiculous Dees 7 years at $7.1m has been taken off the table.

Most speculation has it being us and the Blues being the likely home, but neither of us is coming remotely near this money (thank god)

He will not be at collingwood. They made him an offer that he did not except , so they have now gone and signed the others that would of been cut had he signed. If he was to stay now it would be for less than the original offer! IMOA?

He will either take the $600k 4 year deal that Collingwood have put on the table and stay there with tail between his legs OR
Take Carltons offer which should be around $800-$850

Richmond wont be too much more than Collingwoods Offer & he wont change clubs for that

Yep he will go to Carlton if he goes anywhere, Richmond won't get him.

alright i got it now
i'm a year 12 focussing on studies mate
if that's the case best to give this sight a wide berth over the next few months, it's only going to get more crazy with more speculation the longer it goes on.

A power forward he may be but.. did he get a touch last week.... Imagine if he brings this form over to Punt Road. I'd be furious. I still maintain our midfield is priority 1.

Cloke is staying at Collingwood - Lock it in - will be announced in two weeks.

Well if thats the case then thats ok. I'd rather he stay at Collingwood than go to the Blues.

I'd rather throw a reasonably big offer at Casboult. Good young marking forward with the added bonus of relieving in the ruck (something Cloke can't do). This is the sort of insurance we need if Ty struggles next year.

Either way, let's drive up his price for Carlton anyway.
