Are there any matches you are aware of where a team wins by not kicking a goal?
I agruntee you there is at least one, seeing as some matches have no goals in them

The lowest I have seen was a year or so ago between West Coast and Hawthorn. Don't think anyone kicked a goal until the last quarter.
Not in the AFL/VFL. 24 times teams have been goalless, but never have they won.Are there any matches you are aware of where a team wins by not kicking a goal?
West Coast 0.8 0.12 2.16 5.21 (51) vs. Hawthorn 0.4 2.7 3.13 5.16 (46).The lowest I have seen was a year or so ago between West Coast and Hawthorn. Don't think anyone kicked a goal until the last quarter.
1925-1938, there were free kicks against the last player to touch the ball before it went out of bounds and no boundary throw-ins. (Introduced to reduce congested play.)There was a higher % of matches with an aggregate of >200 in 1934 than in 2012.
That surprised me.
Indeed!West Coast 0.8 0.12 2.16 5.21 (51) vs. Hawthorn 0.4 2.7 3.13 5.16 (46).
A very strange game, this one!
Looking at that bottom one reminded me of one I wanted to ask RR - what's the biggest discrepancy of scoring shots between a winning and a losing side, with the losing side having more?
That's badly worded, actually, basically I just want to know the games where the losing side had a heap (the most, if you can dig it up) more scoring shots than the winning side.
I've been thinking about how much inaccuracy kills recently so I'm curious! Sorry if it's already been asked, I have read through the thread but not for a while now...
That famous game back in the 20's i think with Geelong 19.8.122 defeating Fitzroy by 83 points, who scored an incredible 2.27.39!! Doubt there's been a more inaccurate score with as few as two goals.
The greatest surplus in scoring shots by a losing team is 15 more.Looking at that bottom one reminded me of one I wanted to ask RR - what's the biggest discrepancy of scoring shots between a winning and a losing side, with the losing side having more?

That's a beauty! Essendon's score in that match is the 2nd highest recorded by a team that scored 64 percent or more of their total score in one quarter - but the three 1.6 quarter scores makes it the real stand-out.It's probably been highlighted already in this thread, but i was just perusing the 1976 season's scores, and noticed Essendon and Fitzroy played a game in Rd 11, with this amazing scoreline especially for the Bombers.
Fitz: 4.5.29.....7.6.48.....10.12.72.....16.14.110
Ess: 1.6.12....11.10.76...12.16.88.....13.22.100
Essendon lost, kicking 10.4.64 in the 2nd quarter, yet managed to kick 1.6.12 in each of the other three quarters! What an odd way to compile a score of 100 points!
That game was a beauty of itself: the Redlegs, who had won only three games in 1933, upset second-placed Richmond after being five goals down halfway through the third quarter.13.23 has only been scored 9 times - first by Melbourne v Richmond 14.11-95 - round 12, 1934
July 28, 1934, Victoria Park
Collingwood 3-5 (23) 5-9 (39) 10-16 (76) 13-19 (97)
South Melbourne 5-5 (35) 9-9 (63) 17-10 (112) 21-19 (145)
Margin 12 24 36 48

What is the lowest %age a team has ever had at any point in the season? Because Melbourne's is under 30%, and with them playing West Coast next week it may go well into the teens.
Actually, 18-2 (110) was St. Kilda's final score, and Lockett actually kicked "only" six; the score of the game is here. Craig O'Brien, discarded by Essendon after a couple of games, kicked four from seven kicks to beat his former club; he was later to join Lockett at the Swans, but played his best football in a Saint jumper with 116 goals in 52 games over three seasons.I remember back as a boy watching Essendon v St.kilda out at Waverley and Essendon dominated play for most of the day but ended up loosing by 3 or 4 goals. Plugger kicked a huge bag and at one point had St.kilda at 18.2.110. Was in tears that day.
On Saturday in Tassie a side from Forth beat a Spreyton side by 420 points!
420 - 0
Leading goalkicker kicked 21. Bloody incredible.
