Player Watch Tom Doedee - Departed for Brisbane, End of 1st Round FA Compensation

I always thought this was a discussion forum?

Not a place where someone or a group of posters can gang up and bully others into only posting stuff they deem appropriate?

Guess this is just my "talking out of my arse" instead of trying to foster discussion about a new player no one had any information about prior to the draft.

No, you should just agree with the whatever the AFC feed you. When the whole of Australia has questioned a drafting decision, its ok as long as a few BF posters say in the AFC we trust because we are the most succesful club in the AFL(not Premierships but in drafting).

So you are saying, we are not allowed to think for our self?

Thats right if the AFC have said we studied it and you need to trust our judgement because after all we are extremly succesfull at recruiting a team capable of making the TOP 4 and winning premierships. Dont look what the Hawks do they have no friggen idea. You only need to look at our record!

From what you have posted here, the herd or groupthink mentality is to agree with the general consensus that picking Doedee was a fail.

Nothing wrong with backing in the recruiting team that has done quite well the last few years rather than follow the herd.

Premierships are the ultimate gauge of success. However our players have had five coaches in five seasons. Hard to win flags when that happens.

You can have whatever opinion you like, but it's asinine to get so worked up over a bloke who has yet to play a game.

Yes:

2007 - #10 - Patrick Dangerfield [Multiple AA and rated as top 3 in the competition]
2008 - #10 - Phil Davis [Attracted a million dollar offer from GWS and captaincy]
2009 - #13 - Daniel Talia [RS winner and AA]
2010 - #14 - Brodie Smith [AA]
2011 - #2 - Brad Crouch [2nd in RS], #20 - Luke Brown []
2012 - no 1st round selection - Tiprat Scum penalty
2013 - no 1st round selection - Tiprat Scum penalty
2014 - #14 - Jake Lever [RS Nomination]

Out of every first round pick we have had since 2007 (Since Rendell & Oglivly took over), the least accomplished first round pick is Luke Brown.

You can keep arguing that point, but all you do is look more and more like an idiot. :)

Many attribute Ogilvy with much of the success during Rendell's reign. He was doing the leg work and making the unexpected suggestions.

Dangerfield was very much an Ogilvie selection more than Rendell. Haggis pushed hard and annoyed enough that Rendell finally listened and agreed with him.

Mate ill never look like an idiot whilst you question a club that continues to fail

There are many reasons a club fails to win flags. Our recruiting in recent times has been pretty good, but Craigys dislike of trade week didn't help

When talking about who he would take at pick 1 Ogilvie said "if you put the 5 of us in a room and took a poll, you would probably get 3 who say Weitering and 2 who say Schache". So there must be 5 full time.

We have four listed under staff - Hamish Ogilvie, Phil Bunn, Stephen McCrystal and Scott Aquilina. But I think he might have also been including Justin Reid in the 5. As the list manager, Reid would also be involved in those discussions.

Can someone highlight his positive attributes?

Blistering pace?
Clearance machine?

So what are they?

It ain't the recruiting department's fault. They have been our best department since Fantasia left.

Any club that has five coaches across five seasons will struggle.

Yet we have actually done ok. Basically had the same "success" as our cross town rivals in this period.

Hopefully the Pyke era can be a stable one. And more importantly he is a good enough coach to allow the club to have real success.

Strong contested game, very good lateral movement and poise and he looks like one of those guys who sees the game well.

I'd also argue his scope for improvement is much larger than some around him, given his last 12 months and being new to the game.

Just like the Knicks fans in the last NBA Draft over Porzingas and look at him now

To be fair to the Knicks, they have been conditioned over the last decade to expect their draftee's to be s**t (Jordan Hill instead of Steph Curry). With recent first rounders like Lever, Smith and Talia, it should give the Crows recruiters some slack. At least wait and see before criticising.

There is questioning, then there is stupidity.

You've ignored every part of the club that has underperformed, to take pot shots at the only part of our club that has been at a very high level since 2007, in some ridiculous belief that the draft is the only way to win a premiership.

Even when you're talking about results, they are there for first round, and that draft team is a big part of the reason we didn't fall into an absolute heap post tippett sanctions, especially with their later selection work.

The Hawks picking him up can also just simply mean they are in the better position to wear a bust if he does not come up. You can take risks like that when you are sitting at the top of the tree. Burton is boom or bust. For Adelaide, the risk equation is different and so consequently the selection strategy is different.
