Welcome to Other Footy Games

This thread should act as an introduction for new posters looking to get familiarised with the board and involved in games, and double as a bit of a regulations thread.

To new posters; welcome to the board. It's easy to get involved as there are always new games starting or currently running; these are easily spotted, as they will be stickied to the top of the forum. Most games are coherently explained in the OP, although if you're having problems understanding, or wish to start a game of your own, here are some common guidelines.

Trade Games
Each player chooses an AFL team list, and via communication with other players (whether in the game thread or via PM) work out trades which will hopefully improve their list. These games will provide a List Thread for each player to maintain and upkeep their team lists in, including a Best 22. (Initially you post your team list in here, then as trades are completed edit your post to reflect this). Trades are usually not confirmed unless posted in the Confirmed Trades thread (again, provided by the OP and 'gameboss'). The player adjudicated to have improved their list the most at the conclusion of the game is deemed the winner.

Draft Games
Each player chooses an AFL team, and the OP or 'gameboss' formulates a draft order (usually attained via a random draft generator). Following this draft order, players take turns to select any AFL player on any team list at this current time (unless, for example, it is an '80s draft, or an All-Time draft). At the conclusion of the draft, there may be a rookie draft, or the game may conclude. The player adjudicated to have built the best list (usually under a set of criteria) at the conclusion of the game is deemed the winner.

Trade and Draft Games
As the name suggests, these simply combine the two above games into one list management storm. Often the draft comes first, followed by a trade period, however sometimes the trade game will be played first and the players without a home are sent into a draft.

Auction Games
Each player begins with a set amount of cash; this could be anywhere from a couple of million dollars to tens of millions of dollars. A common way to run this game is that each day, an AFL team list is up for auction and players may bid whatever they wish on any player from this list until, say, 9pm. For example, Lance Franklin may go for 1 million dollars whilst his teammate LRT is sold for $50k. Players must manage their finances intelligently whilst accumulating the best team they can. Once again, the player adjudicated to have built the best list (usually under a set of criteria) at the conclusion of the game is deemed the winner.

Dynasty Leagues
Often kept in the subforums at the top of our board, dynasty leagues require an ongoing commitment of time over multiple seasons. Coaching vacancies invariably occur every off-season, so register your interest as early as you can. These games are, like DreamTeam and SuperCoach, built off real AFL players' performances. Each owner has their own fantasy team; during the season they manipulate their team to score as much as they can (strategic captaincy choices, positioning choices) whilst the off-season is a time to trade and draft to improve your list as much as you can. There is more prestige given to a premier in a dynasty league than, for example, the winner of a trade game.

Other Games
There are a vast range of games played on this board, almost always relating to the AFL, which cannot all be encompassed in this thread but are usually easy enough to understand. General discussion threads and such will also pop up from time to time; these may help you get to know the other posters on the board.

Any questions about games (or anything about the board really) are welcome to be posted in this thread; usually at least one of the regulars are online at any given time and will be able to answer your queries.

There aren't a lot of regulations here, it's easygoing to say the least, especially without a mod as it had been for so long. The site rules obviously apply; avoiding the swear filter, divulging PMs etc are all out of line, all should know the drill. Don't advertise games from other sites on here by starting an entire new thread. Try to keep threads kind of on-topic, if things get way messy I'll likely be cleaning up your mess. That's pretty much the lot.

Enjoy!

I probably should add that if you want any threads stickied, locked, deleted, moved, or any tasks like that then either tag me in the thread or post the request in here.

If you want a new prefix (say your game has plenty of threads involved with it but isn't long-term enough for a subforum) then let me know in here too and I'll give it to the powers that be.
