This is how you develop a young player like Dewar.

At the start of the year he was WAFL reserves or colts standard. In fact most of the year he's been at best barely WAFL standard.

He's put together some form and progressed. You give him a game or part of a game late in the season at AFL level. He will likely do * all and be overawed. But from a coaching and development perspective you can use that and say you have the skills, you have the ability, you just have to do the work and believe. You are going to have a great preseason and be pushing the other players to make that role in the best 22 yours. We will do everything we can together to get you there, we can show you the way but you have to do the work to make it. Believe in yourself, believe in your ability and push yourself to be the best player you can be.

Training the house down is a bit of a stretch but he has had an encouraging preseason

His field kicking has surprised me and he looks fitter than last year

Still behind the likes of Long, Cripps, Petruccelle, Brockman and Ryan (when/if fit) for a forwardline spot. Also competing with Rawlinson if there’s an opening

Should be happy with a solid year in the WAFL to establish himself consistently at that level
