Maybe not a serious enough thread for this but...Michael Clarke.

I absolutely despise him. If only every other accomplished shield batsman was handed 70 test caps, no questions asked, to give him the time to establish himself I'm sure that Martyn, Lehmann, Elliott, Hodge, Siddons, Love, Blewett, Cox and ors could play 100 tests for Australia too.

To make matters worse he is the worst kind of new age, dip-shit and an embarrassment to the values traditionally associated with the baggy green.

It would also be nice if the spineless twat promoted himself above number 5 in the batting order.

Well, to be fair, Steve Waugh batted at 5 almost exclusively post 1993. What was your opinion on him?

I agree with a lot of what you say about him. I'd also point out that while his initial selection over Hodge was probably wrong, since 2006 his form has mostly been pretty good. Still remember how good he was in England in 2009. Was terrible in 2010-11 Ashes though..

Key difference between S Waugh and Clarke:

Waugh's bread and butter, once he had established himself in the test side (which is when I start to remember anyway), was back to the wall runs. If we were in trouble Waugh would fight his arse off to make runs. He also averaged 50 against frightening attacks during days when pitches were still prepared with the aim of sides being bowled out. You can survive at number 5 with this sort of attitude.

Having followed Clarke since the beginning I'm satisfied with my conclusion that he has characteristically failed under the sort of pressure Waugh thrived on. It is unjustifiable considering that 5 (with 6 and a quality 7) is basically there to protect against a top order collapse.

Whether any of it matters now is a different story. My issue was never that Clarke couldn't play, it was just that he is no more special than the guys I mentioned above or even someone like Klinger (who was a contemporary of Clarke's when they were juniors who has proven himself for SA) and should have been made to earn his spot. It is just another example of the self-fulfilling logic in Cricket that is passed off as being part of the CA selection criteria (whatever the **** it is).

I love his captaincy in the field though. Agressive and proactive, not reactive, which we haven't had since Taylor.

Doesn't remove from the fact he had way more chances than he was due in years gone by though he has improved and got more steel in his batting since taking over the captaincy (not saying he is remotely as steelyl as SWaugh).

interesting way of saying you're old Bruno :p.

Completely agree about the number 5 stuff though

one moment epitomizes this new school captain.

does anyone for a second think Ian Chappel, Richie Benaud, Steve Waugh, Allan Border or any other of the litany of Australian captains have come home from a tour cause their gf was having a sulk?

This is the most important job in the country! ask Chappeli, he will tell you.

none of this leving early for dinner with the missus, or different seats on the plane with missus.... cmon man! team.

People playing their music on the train. I mean really now, why do they have to have it so loud anyway. It is highly annoying.

Smoking - I don't want to get cancer. I cannot wait until it is banned; it will be amazing :D And when a person smokes I always need to walk around them, and it is highly annoying.

I love that a smoking ban being put in place one day is now generally becoming accepted as a foregone conclusion. Now it's just a matter of when, not if.

I am happy in advance, and the tears of pain of scabby, dirty smokers will taste like trip chocolate milkshakes!

I think it is great too. One thing the government is actually getting right.

I remember it was last week I think, but I saw someone who was smoking walk right onto a train.

I could put up with smoking if it didn't affect myself and others. I am always having to walk around them while they try and kill themselves and others.

Yeah, but it doesn't affect you. Second hand smoking is about as relevant now as Fitzroy.

I'm a smoker.

We gave you the indoors during winter, quit your bitchin now it's summer and you all want to go outside.

Come at me:cool:

I dont know how you can smoke when it's hot! I've never smoked (as an adult), so I dont have experience to back me up, but I'd imagine that it's more difficult in summer than it is in winter, right?

I only really care about others smoking if I'm eating. The days when you could smoke in pubs used to be annoying because the smell would get in your clothes, but most smokers dont really bother me now.

It really doesn't make a difference whether it's hot or cold, though it's much more pleasant to smoke outside during summer.

even before all the laws came in I never smoked around others while eating, that's just common decency. I actually like the outside policy, never had an issue with it.

What shits me is the government thinking changing the packet colour will stop people smoking, while smoking is legal people will smoke. If they really are against it just ban it. Yeah there'd be a whole bunch of irritated ex smokers for a few months that'll annoy the shit out of everyone but soon it will be back to normal.

The media blowing smoke up Geelong's arse at every opportunity.

No they did not have the best pre-season.

3 yr deal to an injury prone ruckman.
A decent backman replacing one of the best ever.
A compo pick for a player finishing 18th in the B&F after playing 22 games, should of kept the pick for when you slide down the ladder.

They can't do no wrong because they are Geelong.

People who take park cricket way too seriously.
Had this bloke caught behind on Saturday, massive snick, was clearly out, but he absolutely lost his shit.
Started abusing this poor little Indian umpire, and gave his bat a good chuck on the way off.

Then he just packed up his stuff and drove off (they had already fielded).

Despise guys like that, he made a colossal ass of himself

You'd hate Vegas. We banned smoking in restaurants here in 2007, but we still have smoking in our casinos. The restaurants in the casinos are sometimes separated from the casino floor/slots by low walls. I can stand right next to the wall and light up as many cigarettes as I want, but cannot smoke in the restaurant. I'll have to take a picture next time I'm in a casino... It's pretty stupid and I'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly.

That's weird. The US has things like MDF (craft wood) and enamel paints banned, and has done for years, but they're legal here. It's funny that they crack down on carcinogens like those, but are more lenient with smoking.
