Not so much now, but growing up peanut butter and vegemite were always known as penisbutter and vaginamite.

All sauces live in the pantry, opened or not. Mayo goes in the fridge.

The correct sauce protocol is as follows:- stored in the cupboard until opened; then in the fridge..
You take it out of the fridge when preparing the meal to which it is an accompaniment..
This way the sauce is not unpleasantly cold when consumed..
Simple.

I had a few friends over for fish & chips the other night, when I got the tomato sauce out of the fridge they were horrified. One challenged me to show them where it said 'refrigerate after opening' on the label. I did.

It belongs in the fridge.

Do sauces even have a use by date? I thought it was best before. Either way, they don't expire until like 2 years after you bought them. You should always throw something out at the use by date! Best before is different.
