Opinion Your 2 Players For 2013 And Why

My 2 players are Kruezer and Gibbs.

Both number 1 draft picks and both getting to the age where we really want to see them step up into that A grade level. We know that they're both capable of it but both have had their reasons for not being able to get there.

Kreuzer obviously has had some injuries to deal with and I think at times he has been mismanaged by the club. I also think having 206 at the club could be detrimental to his development. He thrives on being that number 1 ruckman and his best position is playing most of the games in the ruck. Warnock also seems to need to play as the number 1 ruckman and unless he's improved his around the ground work it seems as though the two would be incompatible in the same team.

Gibbs I think was used as a gap filler for too long and it's probably set back his development as an elite midfielder, he does some great things in the midfield but often also rushes himself. I personally think he should be played in the midfield (60-70%) and in the forward half (30-40%). I think the problem with a player like Gibbs is he has so many great attributes that coaches are tempted to using him all over the place. His kicking out of defense is extremely useful but I think it's a waste of his talent.

I reckon Hampson has shown signs he might really start working as a forward/ruck. Weekend was very promising, and he's really starting to look imposing/dangerous in the air.

Second guy I'm high on is Laidler. If Jamo, Hendo and Watto are in the side, Laid... uhh... -o... should be using his play-reading and play-making skills to intercept and rebound. I really like him, and hope we can keep our first choice defenders on the park to see what they can do.

Gibbs and Yarran.

Both are capable of A grade performances but If these two can become consistant A graders the midfield would be unstoppable. You know what you are going to get from Judd, Murph, Carrots and Simmo. Throw in a consistant Gibbs into the mid rotation and Yarran of half back with stints in the midfield you just ooze class everywhere. A midfield that bats 6 A graders deep with Mclean, Robinson, Bell/Curnow/Ellard as grunt and with Krueze in the ruck is going to be scary.

If I'm trying to be unbiased, I think we only have three A Grade midfielders. .. Judd, Murphy and Carrazzo*

We then have some very good B graders in Gibbs, Simmo and possibly Kreuzer (if you're counting rucks)

* only gets in there because he can shut down and attack

I can understand rating Simmo B grade, not a game changer but a consistant contributor. Maybe we can split it on B+ ;)

Anyway, if we can find another A grader in Gibbs or Yarran then we are taking a strength and pushing it even further.

McLean and Kreuzer.

These two improve those around them through plain old hard work and selfless play. A sustained injury free run from both would be huge for us.

Betts - Hope the midfield cameo wasn't just a one-off NAB cup experiment. Could get even better.

Hampson - Underrated as a forward, underrated as a ruckman.

He was making cameos under Ratts too. .. I think for time spent, he was high on the first hands to the ball (from centre bounces) stats in 2011. ..

From memory he was more of a centre square specialist, pushed forward after the first clearance.

Will be interesting if he has developed the tank to spend more time up the field, but then again he is the teams most consistant forward. is he really needed for more than just the impact?

True, that was only a couple of times per year whereas I'd rather see him there once or twice per game.
Not surprised about the first hands to the ball bit, I can't think of anyone with faster reflexes than Eddie

Agreed. .. Too valuable up forward to spend too long in the centre square. .. Great as an impact play though, especially when we have negative momentum in the centre. ..

Boston Rob and Amber for mine...
Nah, they suck. Gibbs and Levi.
Gibbs for the obvious reasons and Levi as I loved the way he went about making Buntine pay for being in the way. Its been a few years since we had a forward that destroyed who was in front of him... Having an opposition player second guess if they are going to live or die creates opportunity, especially with our forward fleet.
