Zone Chip to a Wii?

Muggins has bought his son a Wii game from the states not realising they must be Regional like DVD players! Much to his dismay on his 6th birthday today

Does anyone know whether you can mod-chip a Wii to play different regional games please?

You need to be wary of what your firmware version is though. I don't use this but you might need to read up about it.

If I take it to one of those places that just does it they'll know what to do won't they?

The free loader was just a disc you could put in. However according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Freeloader it won't work anymore if your wii has been updated since 2008.

Looks like you'd have to go somewhere to get a modchip (I don't know where).
