Drop Stephen Hill

A spa session with Matty de Boer sounds good too!
This sounds like something the missus would say. But she would trade in the boxing gloves for a bottle of bubbly.

But I have to agree with the op, Hill needs to start to attack the ball hard like MdB or he'll never be elite. Harvey does need to act while Hill is locked into a long term contract and can't crack the shits.

I think it's possibly been bad coaching.

I suspect he's been told to keep his feet at all times, at least that's what it looks like. If he's on his feet and can be given the ball, his line breaking run is near impossible to stop.

The problem with that theory is his team mate's total lack of clean handling, and then the seemingly endless need to get the bloody ball back all the time.

In a similar vein esquilax, I would think that he is being told to use his line breaking ability and not get stuck in a contest, because then he isn't as valuable. So he is then taking it on himself to try and take the ball and avoid getting bumped around.

However it may be that he is just squibbing.

Even if this is the case, situations have arisen in which he's ducked his head, or shied away from a tackle. The one arm, ass out attempts are all too common for Hill. Regardless of your tactical commands, you shouldn't shy away when physicality is about.

If you rocked up at the Chicago Bulls in 1997 and half arsed something - even at training - you would quickly find out that MJ didn't stand for that shit. The guy kept Rodman in line FFS. Great leaders set the standard, great teams live up to that standard.

I think you may be selling one of the greatest coaches in NBA history a tad short there...

he's playing injured, has been all year, be it in the preseason with his shins, or after the north game where my mail is that he has been playing with injections ever since. the fact is, we only have a few match winners who can drag themselves from the hospital ward to play, hill is one of those. im sure if we had anyone to come in, he would be rested and brought back as he should have been at the start of the season... through the wafl..... hilly's form is pretty much the story of our year really. having said that, a half fit hill is still miles in front of JVB at his best

Surprise, surprise.

Has he or has he not avoided contests this year, KPR?

i havent seen any glaring, moments, i think a previous posters comment is probably correct, in that he has been instructed to stay on his feet at all times so that he can be the outside player running forward.

no need to get sarcastic, i in effect agree with you. i think he needs to be rested to get over the knee, and brought back to form through the wafl. but he is half the speed of what he was last year, it doesnt take a doctor to see he is labouring. i tell you what clay, hold off on the KPR bashing untill next year, bite your tongue for 12 weeks, i will stop preaching about our injuries, and we can talk about it when we are 11 and 1 next year :thumbsu:

Opposition teams tag Hill and structure up to give him no space. Seriously, you guys have no idea.

So what? We let him keep sooking about how he can't beat a tag?

He has been floating around doing absolutely nothing. We cannot let him turn into Daniel Wells. Sure he is being tagged every week but he needs to learn how to beat a tag and he obviously isn't working hard enough to do so. Just because he's Stephen Hill, doesn't mean he can be excused. If we let him plod along like this for the rest of his career, I assure you he will not be the next Peter Matera.

Not defending or attacking Hill, but who do we have that can take his place?

Do we have a fit midfielder with the tank to play for 4 quarters?

depends who you ask... clay thinks JVB can lead us to glory, i personally think the answer is No, we dont have any fit players to take his spot, and if we did hill would be recouperating, then gaining form

Stephen Hill may be struggling with injury.

Nat Fyfe is playing with a shoulder that dislocates every second week.

He hits every contest like it's his last.

Stephen Hill should make way for someone capable of going when it is their turn, Schammer, Palmer and Roberton are all harder at the pill.

So dropping him, teaches how to fight through a tag?

Making up shit doesn't help your moronic argument.

I disagree with GG from time to time, but he's spot on here. Fyfe's shoulder is dodgy, but he plays to a high standard. Barlow played his first game since he snapped his leg, but attacked each contest with no fear.

Hill is developing a case of the Michael Johnsons.

Teams respect Hill's ability to destroy teams. Why drop a player who other teams plan to stop?

Read the thread.

Hill's actions set a poor onfield tone.

He seemingly refuses to put his body on the line when it is his turn, the bloke next to him sees this would be entitled to think if it's good enough for Hill, it's good enough for me.

Hill's meek efforts are not acceptable.

by god your a fool

"You're"

Do you think a 14 possession game at 57% efficiency is good enough for a top three draft pick midfielder?

Preseason troubles don't cut it as an excuse. Both Scully and Fyfe have struggled with injury this season, and still cut it up. That's without even getting into Hill avoiding contact.
