FB: Pearce, Talia, Hooper
HB: Wood, T.Hill, Veszpremi
C: Tutt, Liberatore, Howard
HF: Zephaniah, Jones, Dahlhaus
FF: Grant, Panos, Roughead
FOL: Cordy, Wallis, Smith

Very good midfield IMO, Tutt and Howard with speed and class and who is going to win the ball over Libba/Wallis/Clay Smith with Cordy and Roughead in the ruck! Although could probably do with some more class, but Griff and Higgins will still be around for a long time to cover that.

The forward line could be anything really, Jones is probably the best contested mark in our team, Panos the best set shot in our team, Zeph can take a huge hanger as can Grant and they both provide X-factor. So we can bomb it in and have a very good chance of either taking a mark and if not Dahlhaus will be there to lock it in/crumb it, also Jones, Zeph, Dahlhaus and Grant (not so much last year) all provide lots of defensive pressure so the backline will have a hard time getting it out.

The backline is pretty weak though, Talia looks like he could be a good defender and Tom Hill has massive potential, if Wood and Vesz keep developing then we should be fine but the BPs I just chucked in anyone who could play there.

It's not a 'very good midfield'. Only Libba has shown a bit. Wallis, Smith, Howard and Cordy are just early draft picks at this stage.

As you'd expect given they've been strong in recent years, the Dogs team is pretty weak. Jones, Dahl, Roughy, Libba and Wood are the only ones that have impressed so far, but they're certainly not the quality of some of the other U23 stars going around.

I agree its not much, but we do have a lot to work with in our midfield and even our forward line, and you cant say they are just early draft picks (well they are so you can :p) but everyone has put in early draft picks, it would be pretty hard to make a team of under 23s with out early draft picks who havent shown much, and thats the fun of it, they might be guns they might not.

I agree its not much compared to others but mix them improving with our older players still going strong and we could compete pretty soon, its not as bad for us as others are thinking IMO.

HF:Weedon Darling Sheppard
FF:Neates lycett Newman

RR:Nic Naitanui Shuey S Selwood

Int: Hill Brennan Swift

This is everyone on the senior list i did not include rookies all of which are below 23.
Bolded is who i consider to be best 22 and red is players who other west coast supporters consider to be best 22.

Those below 23 at the start of 2012:

B: Reimers Pears Merrett
HB: Hibberd Carlisle Myers
C: Kavanagh Browne Ross
R: Bellchambers Zaharakis Melksham
HF: Colyer Hurley Heppell
F: Steinberg Davis O'Brien

Bold have yet to play an AFL game. We actually only have 18 guys under 23 on our senior list. We have a bunch who are still 23 though, so 23 and under is a decent side (games played):

B: Hooker (49) Pears (47) Hardingham (28)
HB: Hibberd (9) Carlisle (10) Myers (36)
C: Heppell (23) Howlett (38) Ross (2)
R: Bellchambers (27) Zaharakis (53) Melksham (37)
HF: Crameri (23) Hurley (47) Jetta (62)
F: Colyer (21) Ryder (117) Reimers (55)

B: Browne (2) Gumbleton (22) Kavanagh (0)

Italics indicates players who are clear best 22 at the moment.

We have a lot of experience in our young players. Should Fletcher, Hille, McVeigh and NLM retire at the end of this year then the four most experienced players in the side would be Stanton (25), Watson (27 last week), Monfries (25) and Ryder (23).

Given that most of our fans don't think McVeigh or NLM are best 22 anymore, and that Hille is no great difference to Bellchambers, it's a pretty good situation to be in.

FB Bennell (21) Frawley (23) Tappscott (20)
HF Garland (23) Sellar (23) Grimes (22)

Adelaide circa March 2012:

FB: Otten - Young - L Thompson
HB: Kerridge - Talia - Jaensch
C: Mackay - Sloane - Brown
HF: Petrenko - Tippett - Douglas
FF: Lynch - Walker - McIntyre
R: Jacobs - Dangerfield - Crouch
INT: McKernan - Wright - Smith - Shaw

Crouch can't play for us until next year, but that's the nucleus of our team over the next five.

Put up a pretty decent effort against your close to full strength side on the weekend.

Yep, your guys were impressive in your 23 point, NAB Cup loss to a team with no Petrie, McMahon, Grima or Hansen, as well as only halves from Wells, Swallow, Harvey, McIntosh, Adams, Greenwood and Bastinac.

some decent youngsters in there i think. especially the centre as well as half-forward. don't think we even have a ruckman under 23.

What about Biggs, Cunningham, Lynch and Kruger?

Impressive list, but by your logic, only 4 of the following players are in your best 22:
Fletcher
McVeigh
Hille
Lovett-Murray
[strike]Welsh
Williams[/strike]
Davey
Winderlich
Watson
Dyson
Slattery
Stanton
Prismall

Really?
6-7 IMHO.
Stanton, Watson, Fletcher, Winderlich & Hille clearly are.
Davey & McVeigh are 50/50... most of us think no, coaches think yes...

Davey, McVeigh & Hille could all be pretty easily be pushed out (Dell'O, Hibberd & Bellchambers respectively).

NLM is versatile and hard, good depth for one-two more years IMHO.
Dyson, Slattery, Prismall wouldn't be missed all that much. Barely played.

And same story last year.

Matt Watson might be better suited to the forwardline where he can lead at the ball and not follow a quicker opponent. Would send it home if you get the ball to him within 60 metres of the goals.

B: Davies McCarthy Tuohy
HB: Bootsma Henderson Laidler
C: Yarran Curnow Lucas
HF: Garlett Watson Robinson
F: Buckley Mitchell Kerr
R: Kreuzer Gibbs Ellard

I/C: Casboult McInnes O'Keeffe Joseph

Emerg: Bell Carter Dale Heyne

McCarthy plays a little like Ben Reid with his reading of the play, disposal and interceptions. Good closing speed and mobility for someone who stands 197 cms. Uncanny coincidence that Carlton have recruited a tall from Glenelg who has sticks instead of legs. :D

For a team that has such a highly rated midfield that middle looks average- Yarran and Gibbs both very soft, Lucas is an unknown, and Curnow and Ellard are solid at best. Plus the spine looks very unproven (McCarthy, Watson, Mitchell all unproven, Kruezer is good and still unsure about Henderson)

Of players aged 22 and under on the day of writing, this is the extent of Hawthorn's list that is currently of senior AFL standard. We have a significant cohort in the 23 to 25 age range, so for list management purposes, the club really needs about 6 of the 11 players named here to have 150 game careers.
Other teams would certainly have a better looking under 23 lineup than Hawthorn's, but Hawthorn is trying to peak between now and 2016, taking advantage of the prime years of Hodge, Mitchell, and Franklin.

What exactly are players who turned 23 last year doing in an under 23 team?

It's really quite impressive that you've managed to bend logic and mathematics to find a way to mention a 26 year old Henry Slattery in a response to "which players at your club are younger than 23?"

What exactly are players who turned 23 last year doing in an under 23 team?

OP stated in 2011 the thread was for players born in 1987 or later, it being 2012 I assumed this meant he/she was now looking for players born in 1988 or later. All players in that team fit this criteria.
