Not going to get into the Lucas debate, but is that the most overused statement in footy?

Exactly what level of senior AFL experience is required to learn how to put the ball through the middle set of posts when they're right in front of you?

I dont know... Judd didnt manage it did he? So what level of AFL experience is required then?

absolute meltdown.....

we should have won put them away 10 times....but my dear sweet baby jesus, if Lucas's goal wasnt the worst miss iv ever seen, I have no idea what is.

You're just posting nonsensical stuff.
So tell me how many goals did Judd the best and one of our most experienced players kick tonight? Did his miss, that would have put us 6 goals up and iced the game for us, cost us more than a miss by a 27 gamer?

Yes he had a bad 10 minute patch... But there were others out there tonight who were worse than Lucas... for the whole game. But because a clique of FB style big footy members have declared that it was him that cost us the game, then it must be so.

seriously Carlton were is our composure? Yarran chokes a kick to win us the game against Richmond (should have passed to mclean) we choke a 2 goals lead leading up to the last qtr against the pies, elliot kicks 5-6? wtf! and now we choke being 5 goals up against the Ess, seriously wtf is going on with Carlton how many close games do we lose? Sydney final,Brisbane final, west coast final...... i could keep on going.
It's called being weak as piss. Our club has been going nowhere for 12 years now. Count them.

It's called being weak as piss. Our club has been going nowhere for 12 years now. Count them.
why not say that the club has been going backwards for the last 18 years...

it's called over-expectations...

What I want to know is, after reading some of our more... how can I put it nicely... crayfish supporters comments, I am left wondering why the **** you even support Carlton?

Why the **** did you even start supporting Carlton? Could it come from the fact that at certain times, we were solely the most successful club in the country? Or were you cozened into it through peer pressure? Did your family support the club and therefore you felt obliged to also support the club.

I dont know what you expect from the club or is it a cult of instant gratification... we get in a premiership winning top draw coach and instantly our club is supposed to have transformed into a lean mean killing machine chewing up the opposition and farting fire. I do know that a lot of you wouldnt look out of place wearing yellow and black because as soon as we lose, we turn on our own and pick on one single player to lay all the blame on... not even stopping to think that this is a team sport and the whole team ****ed up.

And then we have the self righteous indignant tossers... you know who you are... who disagree with the club taking a stand and sacking the previous coach and getting in a new one who is supposed to be the one to take us to the promised land. I dont agree with the way that Ratts was treated at the end of last season... but thats last ****ing season... thats one ****ing person... we have sacked favourite sons before and while there was always a bit of an outcry, once the dust had settled... it was business as usual. But some of you are taking it to the extreme. Why hurt the club because you are pissed off with the way some of our benefactors acted. If you hate those benefactors so much, write them a ****ing letter... dont write to the club and bitch about it... write to the people who pissed you off.

And now... as for the coaching. Mick isnt infallible... he doesnt have all the answers. How do you stop an opposition who have made up their mind that every time you get the ball, they are just going to run most of their team into your half of the ground and reduce the free space your forwards need to work in to zip. You cant... all you can do is try and work the ball around the edges until space opens up and use it... and hope that no one stuffs up and allows a turnover.

The players we have at the moment have had 5 years of learning pace at all costs and we dont really know how to slow things down properly and control the tempo of the game... the players suck at it and it is the job of the coach to teach them how to do it. It isnt going to happen overnight. In fact it might not even happen next year. But the boys will learn it and we will be the better for it.

Also... players make ****ing MISTAKES... every single ****ing one of them does it. But some of you are so fixated on certain players that as soon as they do something wrong, it's instantly magnified and turned into a hanging offence. Players have bad patches in games or even in several games... remember last year when Garlett couldnt even buy a goal. The same people knocking Garlett then are the same ones knocking Lucas now. I know that he is loving his time at the club, but at the end of the year when he is out of contract, I hope he tells the club he wants to go home because certain segments of our support base are useless w***ers. And guess what... I wouldnt blame him in the slightest. He was in scintillating form in his first year and then he got hurt. Through mismanagement of his injury, he spent the next 2 years out injured. And now he is starting to string games together and is starting to get the experience he needs not to make the dumb mistakes he is making now, you are abusing him.

So we lost yesterday to the scum... so what... If Garletts goal had been reviewed scores would have been level. If Army had handballed over to Lucas who was on in front of goal, if Judd hadnt missed when we were 5 goals up... if my Aunty had a dick she would be my uncle.

The TEAM ****ed up yesterday... Betts... 4 touches all game... Garlett barely sighted for the whole game... Robbo... did a reasonable job, but barely sighted also.

But thats just us... weak and soft and unable to control a game... well one of those things are right. I would love to see any of you armchair warriors get out there and play AFL at the highest level... it's a tough game but the only thing right in that statement is that we are unable to control a game. The coach prior to Ratts started the rebuild after the AFL shafted us. We went through some massive list changes in the first couple of years (I think that the figure is something like 29 or 39 players). He was working with some reasonable players and a lot of journeymen players for the first 3 years until we started getting in the #1 picks and we got Judd. But he didnt teach the boys how to control a game because we were getting our arses handed to us virtually week in and week out.

Ratten... good new coach. Continued the rebuild and got us playing finals... got us playing high tempo football and running around the opposition. Great tactic until teams started flooding back into our defence and cutting off the space. We didnt learn how to control the tempo of a game like the great modern sides can. Every time we tried to control the tempo... holding the ball in the air... we ****ed up and turned it over and it cost us red time goals... virtually every time.

And now we have Mick... who is still working through the list evaluating who we have here who is worth keeping. I think that he has a fair idea of who to keep and who to get rid of at years end but he needs to evaluate them and reassess them based on real game time. I can see the speed of the team dropping at the end of the year. I can see 1... maybe 2 of our rucks being traded out because they are surplus to requirements. I can see a bunch of our second string midfielders disappearing into the wind.

I can tell you now that Bell is raw but he has talent and he will be staying. Curnow might be gone... McLean is having his best year ever. Ellard... much as I love him as a player, will be gone as well... Joseph... gone (sorry Mr Carlton but you knew he is on borrowed time). Lucas will be staying... he has just too much class and talent to let slide away despite what some people think. Cachia... will get promoted I reckon... he is performing above and beyond his rookie status and deserves the elevation. Army... staying... he is a pure workhorse and is mint in our future style of play.

We are going to turn into a team with a bit of pace but we are not going to be as quick as we appear to be now.

So... once again... you tossers who are out there bagging the club you purport to support and the players who pull on the old dark navy... ask yourself why you are supporting Carlton. If you cant say that you support the navy blue because once Mick really puts a stamp on the team there is going to be some real success in front of us... then ask yourself why you want to continue supporting Carlton because this year was always going to be a transitional one... going from the playing style of one coach to another.

And if you dont want to wait for the success, which is coming... go support Richmond... arent they supposed to be favourites for the flag this year.

Take it easy lads. 2 average teams played ordinary football last.

Both teams are basically the same are other teams from 5-10. There is daylight after the top 3.

Hopefully this season shows our weaknesses for mick to work on for next year. Finishing outside the 8 will be the best thing for the club.

Umm... hello... *knock knock* is there anything inside that head...

Kane Lucas, despite being one the list for a number of years has been mismanaged in terms of injury and training. He finally gets a good coach who will teach him how to be a more complete player... and we get muppets saying that he is shit... blah blah blah.

At least wait until he hits 50 games for us before pulling the trigger on him.

No one was complaining about him the other week when he kicked 3 goals in a half? So why are they complaining now... ohh thats right... we lost the game... so automatically, because he missed a sitter from about 10 out, he is to blame for our loss. What about the sitter that Judd missed just before him that the scum turned around and scored a goal from? Why wasnt that the goal that changed the game? Just because Judd is a 3 time club best and fairest, dual brownlow medalist, AA Australian and all the rest of the accolades doesnt mean that he should be exempt from criticism in the loss.

If he had kicked the goal, we would have been 36 points up which would have meant that Kane would have had a bit less pressure on him to kick straight and he would have looked for better options...

And to be honest, I would prefer to have someone willing to take the shot than to try and pass it to someone else who then gets tackled or has their kick smothered or misses completely.

but at the end of the day... people are always going to look for scapegoats and kick them while they are down.

if only it was just one miss....

ok i really think its time for judd to be moved to the half back flank he would be great back there and he just cant kick for goal so no use being in the forward line simpson back to a wing and lucas to the bullants to learn how to tackle and at least contest in the air and the ground. yarran needs a rocket up him thinks he can play like a millionire when the games on the line. casboult was great mclean was awesome. white great effort a bit slow though with him and henderson back there need a bit more pace down back judd would give that. laidler needs to come back in we know what hes capable of. malthouse needs to bring the sub onearlier and stop being so pig headed about not doing it. his tactics with the sub are ridiculous and have been a major reason why we have fallen short and couple of times menzel is the perfecr sub in my opinion and should be playing that role . but anyway we all need to settle down a bit and realise that we have the makings of a priemeiership side he

i agree.... the amount of skill errors last night was comical.

i would however say day light after top 4. put freo in there as well.

I'm pretty pissed off with the loss aswell, and like many of you have got the SMS msgs from gloating EssenSCUM supporters. Hard not to tell them to F*** off. But for what it's worth, we are playing a better brand of footy, we are more robust than last year. For most of last night, we played bloody good footy.
I was just as dissapointed in the Lucas miss, which was a 12 point turnaround. But he was one of our better players. I predicted a great game from Waite, but he can't do it alone. The boys would be gutted by the loss. We are the REAL deal, just need to make better decisions going forward.
Anyway, I think we are a real chance next week against the Hawks.

I'm not great at ladder shuffles, but it looks to me like we'll stay in sixth for at least the three split rounds...? Unless collingwood mauls Melbourne to death and gains more than 25%. No idea how to work out how much they'd need to win by.

I don't know why so many people are saying the Lucas miss was the turning point.

Yes, the miss was inexcusable and I don't know how it is possible for a professional footballer to miss from there, but the reality is, good sides don't give up a 5 goal lead and let the opposition back in it and win. They simply don't.

Imagine if Hawthorn, Geelong or Sydney were in the position we were last night. You know what they would have done? They would have buried them. Absolutely put the foot on the throat. We just do not have that ability. I thought this is something that would improve under Mick, but it couldn't be anymore obvious that it hasn't.

We gave them so many opportunities to get back in the game that at some stage they were going to get in front.

I don't know if it's a cultural issue at our footy club, but the mental application is NEVER, and I mean never there for 4 quarters. These lapses just do not go away.

I can't bear to think what's going to happen against the Hawks next week.

Comical to see Carlisle being praised on the AFL website and by Mark Robinson after he was switched off Waite. AFL site has a caption that states he starred at both ends. Played a poorer game than Lucas, yet two marks and a goal will scrub the fact that Waite towelled Carlisle. They'll still push Carlisle for AA. Their so called star talls were beaten by Jamison, Henderson, White, Waite and Casboult.

In fairness, look at the Swans v Essendon match last season.

The Swans held on by the skin of their teeth after being 8 (?) goals up at the final change.

Or the Swans vs Freo match this season for that matter.
