Sylvia had been widely expected to miss out on Fremantle’s round one squad after taking his time to adapt to the club's fitness standards since crossing from Melbourne as a free agent last year.

However speaking at the airport today, Lyon said he was happy with the amount of minutes Sylvia had logged across his two pre-season games and he would be ready to play if named.

If the former Demon does make his debut it is likely to be at the expense of Danyle Pearce. Lyon said Pearce had been struggling with an injury, although he trained fully today.

The club will monitor how Pearce pulls up tomorrow before deciding on the team’s final make-up.
Textbook ruse if I ever heard one.

sylvia i think doesnt have the fitness atm to play for fremantle.

He could play off the bench. The thing is that he could work beautifully as an impact player, strong body, decent skills, ball winner, goal kicker. Ticks a lot of boxes. Sometimes a player coming on as sub can struggle with the game, but it seems ideal for Sylvia if he is a little under-done.

did u see his nab challenge game against the E-girls?

Trolling for nibbles??

Tants may be looking for bites, but would not be a bad learning curve watching the game plan unfold from the coaches box. Being from Melbourne, and not being used to our travel routine I think it is ok.

Quite a bit of A and a little bit of B ;)

From what I saw on Saturday at Peel, Sylvia shines the most as a hard-at-it inside mid - digging it out, giving a hp to advantage, bang it forward when necessary. Given Fyfe is one of our best on-ballers when it comes to contested possession, if Sylvia + Lachie can fill that role then our best contested mark in Fyfe is free to drift forward across CHF as a marking target (given our recent forward line troubles, now isnt that a beautiful thought? :) )

If we were to play one, definitely prefer Neale in that role. Very solid pre-season, understands Lyon's gameplan and has been developing on our list for several years. Sylvia is still progressing and tbh, an unknown. Yes he can perform but Freo needs the consistent hard-at-it player.

I won't be angry if Sylvia plays but I'll be surprised.

There's merit in the theory of taking him over to show him the ropes of our travel routine. It's going to be making up a big portion of his career compared to his time at Melbourne, and acclimatising him to our systems now will mean one less culture shock for him to adjust to once he's in the team.

How do you figure Sylvia is an unknown? He has played 157 AFL games. If you want to know, you can watch them.

It is widely known that Ross is totally pissed off at all you Colin Sylvia knockers on Bigfooty .

Colin is Ross' project player and he is encouraged by his commitment thus far.
So, given Ross frequents this forum to gain the fans' perspective on many things I think you should all pull your collective heads in and get behind Colin Sylvia.
I hope he slots three big ones and polls Brownlow votes.

Again, one bad preseason game after a 157-game AFL career doesn't make him a "project player". It just means too many people here take preseason practice games way too seriously.

Off topic I know but my 15 yo grand daughter tells me that she NEEDS a photo of Nat Fyfe (without his shirt) .

Can anyone help. I'm under some serious pressure here.
