There's no "rugby for pussies", rugby is for pussies.
For all its faults (and of which there are many), the one thing it has going for it is the brutality. You definitely need large iron testes and/or a death wish to charge head first into a pair of 150kg mongoloids.

My sheep shagging cousins managed to get me to watch the NZ vs South Africa game on the weekend and whilst I could only watch half an hour before getting bored, I did admire their will to constantly charge into each other with a blatant disregard for their own safety.

European Handball. Or Handball. I played for my schools rep team for the only year we had one :p Wish we had a proper comp here in Australia for it
I wish we had a comp as well. Though it's a really hard game to goal keep, I've tried doing this at school during PE, and it's completely different to futsal on so many levels.

The outdoor school yard game also known as handball had many different name according to which school I went to. The first school I went to called the wall version Sydney. By year 12, we were calling both the square version and wall version downball (we even had to have those rubber balls to play, in primary school all versions were played with a tennis ball).

I followed it religiously for a few years and played a season but then i realised it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be.

Still love watching it though.

I find the same with Gaelic Football, unfortunately, I've gotta stay up till 2 in the morning just to watch highlights :(

There was a girl in my brother's year level who, once she finished school, went to Sweden or Denmark or something to play professional handball

Was he a god amongst men at school?

Dylan8 I don't think you quite appreciate the power that a mod wields.

They can, like, infract people.

My football club has gone down the gutter, and I'm now drinking beers at my desk.

Happy days

any truth to the rumours that the club has been virtually run by a senior clique for years? my view was that allowing bmac to resign is one of the worst moves the club has made in its recent history. surely grif doesn't stay now anyway? man i feel for your supporters.

Yeah, it's a long story.

Griffen, Minson, Cooney etc are just a continuation of the now retired clique that were at their peak in the mid-late 2000s. The club will be better once they're gone. Griffen excepted, they and others have caused so much trouble this year, and then the skipper dropped a bombshell and plans to nick off to GWS anyway.

Fortunately, all the kids want to stay, otherwise we'd be finished. I'm devastated that McCartney's gone, though. Stupid, gutless, weak approach, and ultimately it's cost us a man that had us well and truly on the right path. Don't know what to believe anymore, just have to keep fronting up in the colours and wait for the next preliminary final

I don't know how you lot managed to deal with 3 prelim losses in a row.

This is what I posted yesterday
Exactly what I was thinking. This trade period could turn out with a watershed moment for Footscray. If the rumours that there has been a senior clique running the show at the club for years is true, then removing that and gaining some guns to build further with on the already impressive base in their midfield would be huge. Apparently the young lads love Brendan, so I would have thought the choice was obvious - take an overs deal for Griffen and run. Instead of worrying about short term problems like the PR disaster that is the captain leaving mid-contract, think about the long term impact.

Get rid of a declining player who won't be a part of the next premiership or get rid of a coach who has been building for multiple years with the backing of the kids and the coaching staff, only to start again with another? The choice is clear.

This is from the outside looking in but Griffen never came across as an extraordinary captain anyway.
Is this accurate? Because I really feel like BMac has been let down hard by the club and I have a soft spot for Footscray.

I think we were just happy to be there, to be honest. 1997 stings more than any other.

Yeah, that's pretty much spot on.

Only a couple of the young boys aren't McCartney fans, but none of them will be pulling up stumps because he's gone. Stringer was one of the first on the list to get to the club today and try and sort through this mess (for what it's worth, Morris and Roughead were the first, and will likely be captain/vice captain next year).

The club really blew it with McCartney, I'm livid. Don't think I'll settle properly until we've got a coach and traded Griffen.
