I haven't and I have seen a lot of his VFL games. I would characterise them as very similar to his AFL games. Accumulates possessions well but plays very safe non contested footy. Rarely takes the game on and attacks, poor defensively allowing his opponents plenty of latitude. Good in the air, which is where he takes the game on most. Most possies are obtained within chains of play rather than contested possession and tends to small sideways safe disposals.

In short a player down on fitness and confidence which is not a surprise given what he has come back from. Club has clear faith by giving him senior games when he didn't show much at VFL. Perhaps the best part for Shaz is he transitioned to AFL pace immediately and played the same game with similar numbers at both levels.

I don't believe we have yet seen anything much of the ability that made him such a highly touted junior at either AFL or VFL level. Biggest question that is yet to be answered is how much of that is lost and how much is hidden awaiting a full pre season and confidence return. That's the $64 dollar question and it is the reason we wouldn't get anywhere near pick 6 for him on the market. He is a significantly unknown quantity now. Still one we best hold onto if he wants to stay because it's worth the risk

We'll have to agree to disagree. Seen about 8 VFL games this season and can't recall 1 where he hasn't spun a little magic and created sufficient space in congestion to allow him to get a disposal away.

Balme didnt mention scharenberg in injury updates on senior players that will be playing vfl finals..think his gone boyz
Thats added to the intrigue. Balmey said one player from the AFL side who wouldn't be playing for injury concerns in the VFL finals was Reid. Said all of Moore, Maynard, Marsh and Kennedy would suit up in the VFL. Scharenberg not mentioned. Either an oversight or Shaz is gone. Latter more likely unfortunately.

It's the interesting part of the VFL view. I feel a number have seen the Pendlebury create space aspect with Shaz where others like me haven't recognised it. As you say we can each have an opinion.

He is still staying
I leave the panic for nervous nellies
I am sure of this

(Equally I have been wrong many times before)

Simon Black used to sign in October all the time. Let's hope at least Scharenburg is that sort of person.
Much prefer he's a September specialist so we don't to wait another month(ish) and for the pun on September performances.

If Shaz mirrors (at the Pies) the rest of Black's career that would be awesome!

I've left this one alone as I don't really rate Shaz much anyway at this point in time.

But a young kid from interstate not re-signing his second contract by the time the season has concluded seems very rare for someone who is happy where he is.

I think we need to take it on face value, and remember the club is very good at spin and deception when it comes to these things and injuries.

So I'm bracing myself that he will announce his intention to leave shortly. This is entirely based on gut feel.

They miss out on names all the time, at least wait until game day before jumping to conclusions about any possible omission.

You may be right. Curious though that he was the one they "forgot"

The reality is, if he wanted to stay and interested in a fair offer from Collingwood he would be signed months ago.

It's dragging on because he either wants to leave or he wants a stupidly overpriced contract, or maybe he wants a bit of both.

The kid has been mediocre this year, either get with the program or leave.

You're not the poster who used to post haikus he'd composed? Your posts usually have the appearance of haikus, but you need to get the syllable count in each line right:

I am first with five
Then seven in the middle --
Five again to end.

Who's haikus and who does he play for? If any good can we trade for him?

I'm hoping it's a chicken & egg thing, the more he plays for us in the ones, the more he would want to play for the jumper. How much does the guy really want to play for the jumper ? That's my concern. If he knows he's good enough, the money will follow on performance anyhow. That's the way it should work. We recruited him with a long term view. I must say it's really starting to p1ss me right off that he's seeking a lot more than what he's shown to date. Why should he be the exception ? I'd love to see him tow the team line, for a couple of years on a bit less than what he's been offered elsewhere, and we'll look after him. But, being greedy at this early stage .. As harsh as it sounds, does he deserve the privilege of wearing the black & white .. I hope he does stay, & hope he gets to stand on the podium in 2018 collecting his 3rd premiership medallion in succession for the pies to go with his 1st of 3 Norm Smith medals, but if he goes then good riddance

Play music signifying strange occurances, conspiracies....
I think we all read too much into things at times

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions yet.

Shaz was named in the VFL side last week, so technically there is no change to that this week: http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2015-09-03/vfl-saturdays-elimination-final-team

Maybe that is why he was left out of the inclusions mentioned?
So was BenKen yet he was named by Balme as an in this week. May be reading too much into it but as he is not signed yet it's all left open. Getting harder to believe that he is still just in negotiations. The climate is very different today compared to say when Simon Black was signing contracts. If you are delaying signing and it's September more often that is because the player is intending to move. Treloar until a few days ago declares he was uncertain of what decision to make. GAJ apparently decided at the last moment.etcetc

Not naming the only one of the five not signed for next year seems a little too coincidental for mine.

Ahem, i think we all forget the player managers have a huge say, they hold out, instruct, look at extending salary etc etc.
anyone know the bergs manager?

He won't be playing either way in the VFL.

The club learnt from last year's mistake where he did an ACL in the last round of the season IIRC.

And if they knew he was leaving being pripudent they might mention him on purpose, why telegraph things to the perceptive bigfooty crowd
