Club statement:

I only counted 5 games in Victoria including the Geelong game?

Yeah but the Grand Final is in Melbourne.

Maybe a NAB cup game too?

Possibly, but the quote was taken from our response to the 2016 fixture. I was under the impression that we requested six games in Victoria every year not including NAB challenge games, so that statement surprised me.

Doesn't ANZ get to pick which three teams they host for home games? I thought that was part of the agreement.

I would of thought so, but then again they knocked back the chance of Hawthorn/Richmond in favour of Essendon/Carlton in 2016 and Collingwood/Richmond this year in favour of Essendon/Geelong. While good for the SCG, if ANZ are picking those games its little wonder people don't want to go.

At peak hour on a Friday Night heading to Geelong at the best of times by car is a nightmare and would take more than the normal hour to cover. Driving would almost be ruled out as an option except for the fact trains coming back are limited after the game, making the game an overnight stay:drunk:.

I say we all just do a Bronwyn Bishop and take a helicopter ;)

Getting excited already. Feels a bit like 2015 was, to paraphrase a Paul Keating, "the season we had to have" to get over what happened at the end of 2014. I hope the hunger and consistency is back next year.

PROS: Only have to travel to Perth once, to play Fremantle in round 19, and play home games against four clubs with massive fan bases in Collingwood, Essendon, Hawthorn and Richmond.
CONS:
Play reigning premiers Hawthorn twice, with the first of those fixtures coming off a six-day break.
PLAY TWICE:
Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Greater Western Sydney, Richmond, Carlton.
BYE: Round 14
FIRST FOUR WEEKS: Collingwood (h), Carlton (a), GWS (h), Adelaide (a)
LAST FOUR WEEKS:
Port Adelaide (h), St Kilda (a), North Melbourne (a), Richmond (h)
SIX-DAY BREAKS: Six
THEY SAY:
"We requested a good number of games in Melbourne in 2016 and we’re fortunate our Victorian fans will be able to see the team in action six times next season. While we’ve been scheduled three matches at ANZ Stadium in the last year of our contract, as the AFL said earlier in the week, the club is open to relocating the fixtures to the SCG if future negotiations made this possible." – Swans chief executive Andrew Ireland.WE SAY: Nothing in this draw will worry the Swans - they play the Hawks twice but that won't worry them. Three Friday night games and one Thursday night will be huge again for the club, and they play three of their first four games at home coming off the bye, which could set up another tilt at the top four. - Adam Curley

A reasonable draw imo, and a excuse to head down to Hobart again.
As for Geelong at Simmonds, I feel that will be a regular thing for the Melbourne base (yes I know it's not in Melb) but fairly accessible to them assuming they can get tickets.
Can't blame the club for North selling its soul to Hobart.

Wow,

Carlton at ANZ who thought that up, they will lucky to have more fans than carltons score.....

My 2 cents:
-As good as we could hope for we got double up with Hawks which i like, cause I like going on their board when we win.
- We got all our double ups against teams that are very hot/cold (GWS/Norf/richmond) so I assume we will get them once in good form and once in poor form (we also can lock in 2 wins agains carlton).

Finally we also got a good fixture home/away (only 1 trip WA) and only 1 real basterd (simmonds).

- My favourite- sunday arvo against dees at SCG- Hopefully Swans play students that round in NEAFL and it will be complete.

As a vic based member living on the mornington peninsula (opposite side of the bay to geelong for those that dont know) getting to this game is difficult enough with a 4 hour round trip. But scheduling a friday night game in geelong is just plain stupid. I've gotten used to the fact that one our of "Melbourne games" is always in geelong every year but seriously friday night at geelong just makes it impossible to get to unless you take the day off work. I wouldnt count on many swans supporters making that trip. Will be the smallest swans crowd next season and probably the smallest swans crowd in many many seasons.

They have to justify installing those expensive lights that almost never get used somehow I guess.

That's fine. So host an interstate club with no Melbourne supporters who actually pay for Melbourne games in their membership only to be dished up shit like Kardinia Park at night or chucked in a high rise pocket by ****ing Hawthorn at the MCG!

Forgive my grumpiness about this but it's every ****ing year.

Perhaps I didn't add enough emphasis to the sarcasm in my post. :D

$10m the Victorian tax payers coughed up for those lights (which mainly only seem to get used for team training runs). The least they can do is play two Victorian based teams under them.

Nah the SCG trust made sure they locked up swans to SCG after this year.......leaving ANZ for GWS.....

Another reason fitzpatrick hates us, as he is on board of ANZ staduim....and it already looses SH!tloads of $$$$$

As I have posted on Facebook. Seems the club are beginning to take the 10,000 Melbourne members for granted. Ireland's comment of 6 Victorian games is either a really poor oversight or a laughable attempt to try and pull the wool over our eyes. 4 Melbourne games. Hawthorn we will be sent up to level 3 with the likelihood of the same against Richmond. A Friday night Geelong game which is effectively a $30 reserved seat on top of our membership, which those of us on the Eastern / South Eastern side of the city would be lucky to get to for the bounce anyway. I can only presume the sixth game he is referring to is a pre season game.

I love the club but seriously. **** off. The outcome is nothing short of poor for Melbourne based members. Also interesting the number of people excited about the Hobart game. Last time we played down there I got through within 10 minutes to get tickets and they were already sold out bar standing room. Not going to have improved much even with the new stand.

I don't think the idea of Geelong home games is to encourage visiting crowds.

No way I'll be going to that.

It's so that we don't play a team at the MCG!! I mean how many times in the last 15 years have we versed them there.

They really like to club inter vic games at the G

Wouldn't want us to get an unfair advantage in playing on the G before finals... COLA, academies & now u want to play on the G?! FFS, why not call it the SSFL (Syd Swans Football League).

THE much maligned ANZ Stadium remains no certainty to host the three AFL games scheduled for 2016, with the AFL and Sydney open to switching them to the SCG if negotiations between the two venues progress.

The Swans are scheduled to meet Collingwood (in Round 1), Essendon (Round 7) and Carlton (Round 18) at ANZ Stadium in what is the final year of the ground’s contract with the AFL.

A proposed trust could see the NSW Government take control of the two venues next year, and if that happens, the games would likely be moved to the SCG.

The AFL confirmed on Thursday it remains open to change, but stressed the decision was not in its hands.

Sydney would much prefer to play at the SCG rather than ANZ Stadium and said on Thursday they would be fully supportive if it happens.

Swans chief executive Andrew Ireland said: “While we’ve been scheduled three matches at ANZ Stadium in the last year of our contract, as the AFL said earlier in the week, the club is open to relocating the fixtures to the SCG if future negotiations made this possible.”
