Callum Sinclair

Player Profile

Callum Sinclair was traded from the West Coast Eagles to the Sydney Swans ahead of season 2016 and has since played vital roles as a key forward and ruckman. Over his first two seasons at the Swans he played primarily as a forward as Kurt Tippett and Sam Naismith carried the ruck load, but the retirement of Tippett and Naismith’s ACL rupture left him with the chief ruck duties in 2018 and 2019. That was until he dislocated his right shoulder twice in Round 15, an injury that ended his season. Sinclair banked a stellar 2020 pre-season campaign and has a burning desire to play every game at the top level this year. Draft history: 2013 Rookie Draft selection (West Coast) No. 12; 2014 AFL Draft rookie elevation (West Coast); 2015 AFL Draft traded by West Coast for Lewis Jetta.

Callum Sinclair

DOB: 23 September 1989

You can tell Tippo loves playing in the ruck alot more then forward now...he is enjoying his footy at lot more this year, you agree???

For sure, that's why I felt bad for him personally more than the team when he got injured. Just hope he makes it back this year.

I think the Naismith-Tippett combination can still work, though. I can see Tippo spending a fair amount of time in the ruck regardless of who he plays with. Naismith will just be an upgrade on Sinclair once he has more experience under his belt.

Sinclair hurt his knee during last week's game I believe, maybe time to give him a rest and give Nankervis a run.

I think he is capable of playing better than he has been, but he does look to be struggling atm. BarneyBent summed up my thoughts on him for the most part.
Nank got no tank.
Big subi it might provie
That he needs to get more fit
He might just get one hit
But tankie he not has

Naismith can just be a relief ruckman- he is a better version of Mark Blake. Tippo the brad ottens!!!!

Tippo ruck for 15- 20 mins, then Mark Blake ( Naismith) do 8 mins a quarter.....

Naismith did this putrid kick on the weekend against carlton, reminds me of a basketballer

id be worried in a grand final if he got the ball, like when he got tackled against the hawks...when burgoyne kicked that 50m goal.

Yeah, I don't disagree with anything you've said, though I'd say Naismith has more upside than Sinclair.

Despite his faults, which I acknowledge, Sinclair is still at worst the equal of any other option we have at the moment.

Naismith great tap ruckman! but can he clunk a few and kick goals? thats the question??

Not sure, but Sinclair's marking hasn't been great recently either. I have a feeling the club will just end up keeping the status quo in the ruck until Tippo gets back. It's imperfect, but we don't have much choice.

Naismith the new stephen Doyle!!
Yeah he actually does look a lot like the Donk at AFL level, never noticed it before at NEAFL level. Maybe it's the pace of the game that accentuates this.

i like naismith, he'll be good. His a great size and times his centre bounce work. I havent seen him in the twos.

Does he have footy smarts? or is he just an athlete? Whats his background? did he play State footy?

He needs a frickin haircut...

Interesting to look at his TOG %'s over the course of the year.
Pre-Bye he was at an average of 84% TOG. In the 4 games since he has gone 69, 58, 66 and 61 for an average of 63.5% TOG. The 2 games preceding the bye he had 71% (Rucking with Nankervis) and 93% (Solo rucking most(?) of the second half after Tippett went down). Looking at that would suggest an injury of some kind either late in the GWS game or in the days leading up to the Melbourne game.
