Pretty happy.

We are closer to our next flag than Richmond.

They are us 2008-2012 and Dustin is their Judd.

Absolute front runners . Loved our structure when it worked.

Just need some fitter bodies and a bit more skill.

We won't win too many games. Don't care.

God help Richmond if Martin gets injured. He was pretty much the difference last night.
Kicked 4 goals, gave away 2 and had 30+ touches.

Did anyone else notice the improvement in Casboults kicking...? He didn't embarrass himself in the ruck either.

Would have liked him to get involved a bit more, but overall i think he played his role as that 3rd tall/ruck.

This is how it should be...us using Weitering and SOSOS as our focal points, with Casboult just playing a role up there.

It was very frustrating to see him get easily nudged under the ball or away from the marking pack. Almost as if he thought he would just get a free run at it
But thought his ruck work was ok and very happy to see him put it through the sticks

This won't be popular but Dochertys kicking is absolutely putrid. How he kicks out for us baffles me. His kicking in general needs a hell of a lot of work.

He had an off night.
His kicking is mostly very good.

Was terrible last night Army.
Could be battling to retain his spot for next week.

He should be replaced...we have quite a few options for his position.

If fit could go with the likes of a Sumner, Lamb or Polson.

Or could just bring in an extra midfielder instead like Kerridge/Palmer.

I liked what I saw, Was frustrating with basic skill errors costing us every. single. time.
I knew Martin would kill us as we didnt have a good lock down to go with him.
If we can add more polish and stick a few more tackles our structure and plan looks good.

Felt Kreuz was massive for us in the middle. Marchbank is a solid get, Always been a fan of plowman's football mind.

Jacob up forward, well done! His route running for leads and ability to create space for himself was pretty good, can take a pack mark too.

Gutted they didnt pay Sos's mark as it was good. Jees he looks like his dad out there.

Pickett and SPS gave me faith in our draft team.

2 things i learned
- we wont finish last
- Richmond wont make the 8.

We wont win many games this year but at least we can watch some kids develop. Marchbank, while he made many mistakes last night will be a star in the future. Played well. Once Macreadie puts on some muscle will be just as good. SPS showed glimpses of what he can do. Silvagni is unbelievably smart and always disposes the ball to our advantage. Pickett will be better for the run and as his fitness improves, so will his all round game. C.Curnow will be a freak (also better for the run) Plowman played his best game for the club. Weitering.... What more can you say? Played through pain and played really well.

How long has it been since we could say that our future doesn't look too bad? Its all about recruiting high quality mids now.

Anyone know if Buckley is fit?

I think he should come in to try and cement a place in the team as our 3rd small defender...it was obvious we needed one to help Docherty & Simmo.
I like Macreadie but we were forced to play him on Rioli last night...

Our turnovers killed us last night but I thought our structures and effort was definitely there. 74% efficiency as well which is pretty good! Daisy is gone. One change for next week - Daisy out, Palmer in.

Weitering - Reminds me of golden-child syndrome. Similar to Pavlich, wherever you put this guy he is going to excel. Really confused as to how to use him in the future but I still hope he goes backline.

SPS
- Lots to like. Excellent attitude - even when he ran hard and got ignored didn't drop his head. Tackles with great technique and application. Great instincts. You can see that as long as his attitude and body hold up, he has such a high ceiling and will rapidly improve as his tank and body fill out. Wish SOS didn't cut SPS off for that mark and goal near the end lol.

The Bad - White and Thomas. Seniors who in my mind are most likely list cloggers now. Armfield and Wright probably aren't our future either, but for now both playing well enough.

Cripps - Underdone. Lack of pre-season is telling. Still classy and taking important marks though.

Structural Issues - How many nothing goals did they get from crumbs and us not having anyone small at the drop? How do we fix this?? Making dudes like Butler and Catanga look like superstars

We struck gold with Weitering! Great year to have number 1 pick. He's already had a 3 goal game from 1 game as a forward, something McCartin is yet to do from 17 games and an extra preseason. And then you look at last year, 177cm half back at pick 1. Not knocking these guys as they should become good players (obviously McGrath hasn't even played yet), just think we have a beauty in Weiters. He's so good back and looks a natural forward, just a smart, smart footballer with great hands.
or compare to Schache from the same draft...

Played yesterday and was good in parts. I'd play him

Thomas must go. By all reports a good guy and good influence - but his body has let him down. It is what it is - have him lead in the VFL and wish him well at the end of the year.

I would drop Levi. Doesn't do much and Rowe can relief ruck. I would personally play Jaksch at FF to give him a shot (I have a feeling with a 5 game run in the seniors it may click - we should find out). McKay should play consistent VFL for 10 weeks to build match fitness etc. Don't rush him. When Rowe relief rucks Kreuz goes forward and Jaksch swings back.

The Curnows brothers were below their best but both should stay.

Agree drop Simon White for another small. I thought Palmer was good in pre season - where is he?

I would go with Rowe, Marchbank, Plowman, Docherty, Simpson and a resting mid in defence. Put Macredia on the bench as the KPP who can go into defence and let Rowe go forward if something happened to our forwards.

I would also bring in Cunningham for Daisy.

Summary - OUT: Levi, Daisy, White IN: Jaksch, Cunningham, Palmer

More mid depth and Jaksch provides more run than Levi.
