Port still working to move further up the order. Adelaide also working.
If they pull off this 2/3 deal that's being proposed should they get Wingard... would SOS consider fleecing them further to move 1 down to 2, still securing Walsh?

Crows will be ropable if Port pull this off.

Have we got a post/thread with completed trades??

Confused,
Adelaide.

Ed: if not, can someone set one up, tks.
There’s a stickied thread out front

I would caution against expecting some big deal is about to fall.

Of course SOS would be working on 100 scenarios and something could always drop, but the most likely scenario from here is we land Setterfield and go home (plus maybe some minor shuffles).

It would have been great to grab Shiel, but it was not to be. Usually only 1-2 big fish move each year. And there's a dozen clubs that are interested. Often the players choose to go to premiership contenders or move for family reasons. Bloody hard to entice players after a 2-win season. Despite all this;

We grabbed McGovern - best 22 player (injury permitting) for another 6-8+ years
We will likely grab Setterfield - could easily be top 10 player at club IF he gets fit and fulfills his potential
We have grabbed Fasolo - cheap, experienced talent in an area we need
We will likely grab Walsh - should be a high-end midfielder for 10+ years

That's 2 x almost guaranteed best 22 (Walsh, McGovern), another 2 x best 22 IF fit (Setterfield, Fasolo).

Our backline is mostly set (just needs more experience and missing a small lockdown defender) - We didn't spend any assets there
Our forwardline had twin towers and not much else - we added two medium forwards
Our midfield needed boosting - we are presumably adding two top-end prospects

Trade week so far has not blown me away, but I am more than content.

GC want Walsh

That may be so, but it's only of interest to us if SOS rates someone else more highly, and thinks he can still snare that player - plus others - as part of some deal, i.e. turning pick one into (for example) two mids and another youngster he rates highly at (say) pick 8. I just can't see the 'two mids' part of this puzzle coming together, or whatever else it would need to be.

I've never had a strong imagination, admittedly!

Hang on to your hats everyone, this is going to be one hell of a ride.

Personally, not open for debate, we need to draft a top notch hybrid (inside/outside) midfielder that is either
Walsh or Smith, I am happy with either.

If it comes to Walsh alone versus a creative trade that gives us Smith and Ben King in the draft, I would do it
in an instant. We are missing a long term "gorilla" key defender. Weitering, Marchbank, Macreadie and our
"third talls" are a quality bunch, but, as more interceptors, will struggle v a rampant Buddy, Lynch, Daniher,
Cox or Hawkins. I have some small hope BSOS would grow another cm or two and fill that role, but certainly
is speculative.

The non-negotiable from the next six days is to satisfy GWS for Setterfield.

Doubtful. Don't see them wanting to trade down if they have 2/3. Better chance would be trying to get the other Adelaide club involved.

GC (say) they want Walsh.

Do they really though?

Anybody else they can get at 2/3.

SO JUST TO BE VERY CLEAR OUR PREFERENCE IS TO KEEP PICK 1. We are just being open to potential trades for pick #1 and things are heating up

Could be it for trade week.

SOS has the ability to trade picks until the millisecond before pick 1 is read out. So draft pick swapping may not happen until 22nd of November!!

Walsh may well be the best by a country mile at TAC cup level but is he the best player in the draft pool ??

Didn’t the SA boys play against men with bigger mature bodies this year ?

Wonder where they would of rated if they played TAC cup all year....

Very tough to predict the order of top end talent coming from different comps and with so much more development to come.

Leave it to those that are closer to the action!

Those suggesting Port give up Wines or Cows give up M Crouch I think really need to consider why on earth they would do that. Trades need to make some sort of sense for BOTH sides.

There do appear to be some legitimate "unique circumstances" that could see some further shuffling at the top end of the draft, though. We'd certainly be happy to keep 1 and take Walsh, but you'd have to think SOS would look at a top ~6 pick and something very useful for 1, which is almost have your cake and eat it too stuff. And there are reasons why you could see that working from the other side, being there's some ultra-talented SA guys who are perhaps just out of draft reach for Port and Crows as it stands. And both clubs hold strong draft pick hands, so could afford to consolidate/trade up.

But the Adelaide teams aren't gutting their squads to move up a few spots.

Have to wonder how many picks will be traded between Wednesday, 17 October 8.30pm and Friday, 16 November 2pm

I reckon the suns would be smart to trade 3 for 6 & 10.

Bucket load of SA talent in the first 2 rounds

Lukosius, Rozee, Rankine, Valente, Hately, Kennerley, McLennan, Nietschke, Sparrow,
I know. It just seems that some SA people think that the Adelaide teams will scoop them up without realising there are other teams in the comp.

Particularly the first three on your list.

And Port paid a premium of over 1000 points to trade up to #6. There is a lesson there for Adelaide.

Current draft order is as follows:

1 Carlton
2 Gold Coast
3 Gold Coast
4 St.Kilda
5 Brisbane
6 Port Adelaide
7 Bulldogs
8 Adelaide
9 Essendon (going to GWS as part of Dylan Shiel deal)
10 Port Adelaide
11 Fremantle
12 Geelong
13 Adelaide
14 GWS Giants
15 Hawks
16 Adelaide

In top 7 picks Nick Blakey will be bid on by someone and then Swans will match bid and have a pick there and the other picks go down one spot. So Port's pick at 10 and Crows at 13 will effectively become 11 and 14. They will expect that too and will want to upgrade those picks into top 5 somehow.

If someone bids on North Taryn Thomas in top dozen picks similar thing could happen. I doubt dogs father son pick will be bid on in top ten so Dogs will want to keep pick 7 and grab a top liner with that and get Rhylee West with a later pick or Port go hard at dogs to give then Wingard and something else for pick 7. Then Port throw 6 and 7 together to try to climb into top 3. Hawks at pick 15 probably would like straight swap for Wingard with that pick. The proposed Hogan, Neale and May trades should also effect top 6 picks somehow.
