We all whinge and moan about umpiring and the new rules that filter in on a yearly basis, why don't we start thinking how to make the game easier to umpire? And maybe get a few more kids playing as well.

1: abolish the throwing the ball rule, make it open slather, why do we care so much about handballs? There are at least a dozen throws not paid every game, makes it easier for umpires and makes it easier for imports-kids taking up the sport.

2: Bouncing the ball, why are we doing this? What purpose does it serve? Would make our game much easier for imports.

3: If the ball hits the post and goes through the goals it's a goal, would make life much easier for goal umpires especially in the lower ranks and rid us of ridiculous reviews at the top level.

4: Incidental touches that go through the goals to remain a goal, see above.

I know someone on that look of the game rule committee thingy that was set up. Got two early hot tips about what to expect in 2020.

- Players will be made to wear bibs indicating their positions, thus penalizing any player who is outside of their position's indicated zone. Examples for position names are as such to be displayed on their bibs - Wing Defender (WD), Goal Attack (GA), Center (C) etc
- Any contact between opposition players is prohibited resulting in a 1 week suspension to the offending party, regardless of the impact (see Mason Cox vs Dylan Grimes)

To make it easier for imports
It's attitudes like this that will hold our game back, look at the inroads soccer and basketball have made over the last 30 years, the world is a much smaller place than it was 30 years ago, s**t even 10 years ago, it isn't just about what's in our own backyard now days.

We have a good ******* brand that athletes enjoy playing, why not rid ourselves of ancient rules that serve no purpose what so ever only to make our game harder to play?

Well mate, can you come up with a better way to get our game umpired decently? I'll be glad to hear it.

The only way that happens is if we make the game easier to umpire, surely you agree with that?

Except the AFL outright promotes the handball in their explanatory videos as part of the character of Aussie Rules, which it is. I mean most internationals don't know how to properly kick an Aussie Rules ball either, should we get rid of that too? The best way to get the game better umpired is to *stop changing* rules and interpretations and focuses so frequently, so that our umpires can better concentrate on the rules we have. It's not worth chasing people who won't play Australian Football unless it becomes American Football.

In summary, as they say on the Internet, "delet this"

None of these are rules that fans consistently whinge about ( save perhaps maybe the throwing the ball one)

You are trying to put out a bushfire with a sponge.
