Their list got old and Scott wasn't allowed to bottom up (see the recruitment of Polec, Hall etc). I would kill for a coach who could take us to two prelims in the next decade. It's better than anything we've had since Parkin.

and he had no input in direction and players recruited..doubt it...I can remember the time when we only interested in premierships..not prelims. The bottoming out and rebuilding which started a few years ago was to get us that to point again and still think it will if we have the balls to stay the course.


Anyway like I said I know the record is better than Bolton’s but it’s not exactly one you’d move on the incumbent and his supporters for.

I’m a big fan of Cunnington but I would not want us to chase him. We are already good at clearances and will only get better next year and we already get smashed on the spread and Cunnington would just make us worse. Gun player but I don’t think he’s our man. Besides if Adelaide make finals he is going to cost two firsts.

As a team we are sixth in the league, so yes that's right.

However if you look at the team breakdown:

Cripps- 88
Fisher- 40
Walsh- 39
SPS and Dow- 34

Huge drop off there. Another clearance specialist would not go astray.

I’d imagine he is contracted but if we could I’d near double his pay for him to be an assistant to BB next year.
Watching us in 2016/17 I thought we had a great coach on our hands. Craig leaves and 18/19 looks like we don’t. Coaching is such a huge job now and Bolton ticks so many boxes imo. Adding someone like Caracella could be just what we need.

We support. That's what we do people. We've put up with the last 20 years. Why jump ship now?

If we change coach. We take a breath, sigh, say "alright... let's go again" and we get behind it.

Also played for Essendon, so everyone has their pros and cons, and that is a very big con.

These are the assistant coaches I would be have a look at: Blake Caracella (obviously), John Blakey (Sydney) and Marty Mattner (Crows). Former head coaches should be looked at as well: Brad Scott, Michael Voss and if he was willing Brett Ratten (who we should never have sacked). I speak with Clarko's manager and see how he feels, likely he would tell us to get stuffed (I would if I was him since we will have terminated his protege).

Don't ever believe there are no obvious choices, there are plenty choices.

Current Carlton coaches: Brendon Bolton, John Barker, Cameron Bruce, David Teague, Dale Amos, Shane Watson, Brent Stanton, Jason Davenport, Hamish McIntosh.

Dale Amos can hold his head high. Maybe Shane Watson as well.

Everyone else, I am not seeing anything positive at all. Forward structure and midfield structures reek.

I am excluding VFL coaches, I haven't been keeping track there. Fraser may be doing a very good job, I don't know.

Yeah I just find it all a bit hard to believe they will send Bolton on his merry way after all the talk of the rebuild and the time it will take to get a team together for him to work with. This year is his first real year with 'his team' so to speak - mind you I do think there is some tinkering still to be done with the list with acquiring ready-made players this coming offseason. The club will look somewhat pathetic for walking him so soon (and don't anyone come at me about our current win/loss record - I'm well aware). For mine if we see what we're seeing now next year then the heat deserves to be on him then.

The really surprising part for me is suggesting they would pick another club. If something happened and Carlton was no more, I'd be neutral for the rest of my days.

Over time I may grow to like some teams more than others, but could never feel for another team what I feel for my Blues.

Maybe that's just me though.

Personality is almost everything for a head coach IMO. And from what i've heard - not very collaborative, quite traditional, has an ego - the opposite of what you want with a young, easily influenced group.

The club narrative was set in stone, rebuild through the draft, stay on the front foot in the media and to the supporters, be prepared to back the coach/players publicly and privately. Fairly obvious plan which has lead to our win/loss ratio. We all know this. This is not a surprise. The clubs stabiliy, or lack thereof if changing coaches, will not help the confidence of a young playing group. There have been no rumblings of dissent at any level apart from on this forum.

We need a comprehensive end of season review. Identify any deficiencies or lack of resources and address them. Put the right assistant coaches/mentor around Bolton as head coach. Recruit best available mature talent. Then Bolton has one more year to deliver. If the Board sacks him mid season many of them should go with him since their fates are inextricably linked.

I agree, my caveat is the one year.After such a comprehensive realignment Bolton would be entitled to be given further opportunity eg three years to bed this down.
