Just not sure how Adelaide sell Eddie for a late pick to their fans... actually, I don't much care. I just want to see Eddie back in Navy Blue.

We know that if it happens, Adelaide will not deny any underlying problems. They will treat their fans with respect and will be clear and transpar....... Sorry I can't do it. BAHAHAHAHA :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

That was going up against the Government. Nobody wins there. When they want to scheme against clubs they will.

The paradox between how they didn't protect Brisbane and Gold Coast and then chose to with GWS... I'm not sure there's another billion dollar plus league manipulating the ability for clubs to operate the way the AFL does.

I'm usually just a watcher from the sidelines, however, have heard from someone directly in club management that Brad Hill is firmly in our sights given he has already requested a trade back to Vic, is enormously talented and would make an immediate impact playing for us on the wing.
I've seen this around the traps, too. Until Brad nominates a club of choice, definitely don't count us out. We wouldn't be stumping up quite as much cash on offer, but are surely more enticing and - if we can get away with losing/having just the Pick 8 aside for Papley/Swans - a future first may do it.

It would nice if we were the club that made the “late swoop” for a player rather than those dopers from Melrose Drive.

Not sure of the poster's info, but if true then it seems SOS, Agresta and Teague are all on the same page now. If SOS wants Betts and Betts (clearly) wants out of AFC, I'm confident they'll let him go fairly and won't stand in the way.

Just not sure how they sell that to their fans... actually, I don't much care. I just want to see Eddie back in Navy Blue.
😍:Doh me too! I can fully understand acquiescing to Teague in his first run as coach. it makes sense for SOS to back him in and support the majority feel. I think SOS is right to play devil's advocate and bring up cons as well as pros. Now for the last hurdle.

It can take 5 to 10 years to build a reputable, desireable brand that is attractive to potential buyers.

It can take two seconds to destroy it.

Shiel etc were not the buyer looking for oppotunity so it comes down to either dollars or success, we had **** all over a few year period and that ultimately would have stopped a few coming.

I'd be interested to know if and why we open the cheque book to certain players who would like to join us but not others.

Sure, we don't want to be paying Martin 700k or whatever. But if the Bulldogs can afford to pay him more, surely we have the adequate salary cap space to make it work.
It’s bloody hard decision to make. We have probably overpaid to get all the big names we have (Marchbank, Setterfield and MM) besides MM the other two were purely potential. We are also apparently paying CC $800k next season when he is worth closer to $400k atm. There is a fine line though imo, overpaying Martin may put players noses out of joint because they rate themselves better and getting nowhere near the money where atleast with targets like Shiel, Cogs and Kelly they come in as clearly our second best player so it’s easier for the players to swallow. Same with players like Marchbank and Setterfield, they would be getting overpaid but still not on us much as the good players so it’s probably not an issue with the group.

It’s easy for us to sit back and say offer Martin an extra $100k which is nothing in the grand scheme of things but that could easily see half a dozen of our other players expect and extra $100k more when they go to sign on too. It’s a bloody tough juggling act.

tbh, I'd be pretty ****ed off if we missed out on Martin purely because we're not offering him more money, and then go all out on Ellis.

Only reading between the lines, but with all the good recruitment SOS has achieved, he seems to be pretty stubborn at times which may be costing us talent.

If a player like Martin wants to come to the club, we need to find a way to compromise and make it happen, rather than just digging our heels in and losing him to another club.

They should just tell their fans that when you love something, sometimes, you have to let it go. They’ll be fine.

Eddie leaving Adelaide MIGHT be part of a bigger storyline.

Potentially Adelaide lose/let go of Betts, Jenkins, Jacobs (and more?) this off-season. Which could be part of a rebuilding story. And tied in with a new captain.

Depending on how it's handled, it could end poorly like North a few years ago or it could be done amiably like Hawks.

With Adelaide, my money is on the former...

was only ever the something borrowed and something blue. ;)

can't believe we would do that bamboo. surely not?

Not ruling anything out, but Hill to Saints along with Ed Langdon to Melbourne and Jak Jones to Melbourne all sound like done deals.

It's Adelaide, so their off-season will probably be deciding on a captain during a camp filled with sadomasochistic trials followed by a death match between two final candidates.

There are questions being asked to SOS and the recruiting group about us missing out on players. Another tick to Liddle and co about making us a better team both on and off the field.

Mmm perhaps our on-field results are the key factor here? We finished third last and are likely 2 years from competing in finals. We have lots of potential but are not a proven finals team.

Likewise Teague is an unknown for the majority of players (exception West coast, St K and Adelaide).

I have no concern re: Cognilio and I think we got of out jail not picking up Sheil.

I think we are somewhat being used to push up prices but SOS would be happy making other teams pay what he thinks are overs.

If we are competing against Norf/Saints/Gold Coast/Melbourne/Freo fro players we should be winning those recruitments unless they are willing to overpay.

Surely they'd understand the dynamic of attracting good, experienced players from other clubs. It's why Crippa probably still wouldn't be getting much more if any than Cogs would have, even though he's clearly a better player.

I sure hope not myblueroan, but putting all the pieces together, we were going all out on Ellis until the Cogs deal fell over, and he then subsequently demanded more $$.

Apparently that's why we cooled on him, but an article late last week suggested we're still in the running. Not sure exactly what to believe, but if that were the case, and we missed out on Martin purely because of $$ and secured Ellis, that would be a dreadful outcome.

Thanks for letting us know, Shmurf.

I suppose it depends on who's doing the asking as for whether it's okay. If it's Brad Lloyd, that's one thing; if it's MLG, or someone else on the board, that's quite something else.
Perhaps it also depends on whether the asking is actually a result of our inability, thus far, to attract a big fish; or whether its because someone might have complained that an offer was withdrawn from their grasp when it became clear they were merely banking offers? I mean, it seems apparent, we’ve been in each biggish fish opportunity to our eyeballs. So why ask the Q’s now.

Perhaps we have this locked in as part of our strategy or have provided assurances to star players that we'll bring in some serious talent.

Agree its a little early in the piece to be making these sort of enquiries.

Would you be more likely or less likely to join a club where the full back of the century is doing the talking?

Anybody who actually believes Liddle and LoGuidice would be actively questioning SOS about missing targets from 3 years ago and when we have won 3 games during a transitional period, please send me a PM.

I’d like to offer you a great deal on a beachfront home in Canberra.

For elite players yes but imagine seeing MM come in this year on big money and have to have a fat camp towards the end of season. We are in some ways still lucky that none of our kids bar Walsh and Weiters have really performed better than to be expected. We haven’t had to ask anyone to take unders yet. Martin on $700k is $200k more than he is worth. That sort of money for good but not great players can hurt you down the track.
(I’m actually happy for us to overpay to get Papley and Martin but I can understand the hesitation. The easiest way to get players to stay for unders and come over for unders is to start contending and those players could drive us in that direction very quickly.)
