Pick 9 would be the absolutely minimum we pay. Can't see Sydney accepting less. And we should absolutely jump at that deal if so.
No way. Look at what Essendon gave up for Smith an All Australian Mid/HF.

The Giants will receive Pick 11 and a 2018 third round selection from the Bombers, while Essendon receive Smith, Pick 24 and GWS' 2018 second round pick.

SOS and Co need to get better in getting quality players with later picks. Deluca selection is looking a little puzzling right now. Pickett and Stack were both taken with rookie selections by the premiers.

Both were huge risks.

You'll see us in a position to take them when we're a perennial finals side like they've become much the same way we're going about it.

They took one a little earlier that didn't pay off in Yaz. But they'd done the extra ground work to absorb it. We're almost there.

let's rate every decision by sos that didn't produce immediate gold against the premiers......
No, I'm suggesting his late selections and rookies haven't been good at all since he's been there. This is where you build depth.

Papley will get done contracted or not. Pick 8 is our starting point
Future pick for Martin is on the table
Betts will happen for alot cheaper then you'd think (both salary and draftpick)
Re Betts, there are many ways to skin a cat, financially speaking.

What was the 'risk' with Kelly again? Lists have 40+ players and every year as you pointed out previously a minimum of three have to go - what was the 'risk' with Stack/Pickett/Kelly ....

In my experience - the greater risk over time - is not taking any risks.

Deluca, Finbar, Garlett, Lobbe, Mullett, Shaw, O'Shea, Polson, Lebois, Kerr, Bugg weren't risks? Apart from Williamson and Gibbons only decent late picks out of the lot. And that's not counting the GWS players like, Gorringe, Pickett, Sumner, Lamb.

Not happy with people suggesting a first each for Paps and Martin, even more for Paley.
Neither are worth that in my opinion.
I'd be seriously unhappy if we paid that much contracted or not as neither have done anything of note to warrant that sort of price tag.
First are for quality mids and key post players only.
What’s the difference between unhappy and seriously unhappy when the word seriously is meant to properly operate as an adjective? Asking for a friend 🤓

BSOS?

But who outside of the Top 40 in the last few drafts has shown much?

All I can say - thank goodness it's not just me. Caught up with some Carlton supporters for lunch today and they all agreed, every single one of them, pick 8 is too much for Papley and more importantly a pick around 20 (only because he is contracted) is about right. As I said, logic at last!!!

The other point that was raised, is that we need to keep building through the draft and therefore we shouldn't just sit back now thinking we have done the hard yards and just sell the farm. High quality kids need to keep being introduced every year with our top picks.

Food for thought!
Reckon it will end up pick 9 and we give next years second for their third. Agree well overs.....but they seem desperate.

There's still time. I'd be more than happy for Agresta and SOS to throw our future 1st at someone.

Cogs was potentially a freebie. Nothing more. I think they'll give our young midfield 1 more year to develop and show we have the goods, whilst focusing on our clear deficits - Wing and forward line.

If our midfield doesn't improve next year I can see us losing 1 or 2 mids, and trading very heavily for a gun mid or 2.
Agree. Think we must trade for some ready made big bodied mids to offer some immediate assistance.

Martin will be playing midfield and wing, but I do agree we're probably 1 class midfielder away. However by the time next year rolls around Stocker, Setterfield or Dow could be that player.

No way Stocker or Dow are anywhere near being full time gun mids next year. Anyone suggesting it is living in navy blue na na land.

and then go on to mention two richmond picks......

Just now a Swans supporter ringing up SEN complaining Papley's reason for requestng trade doesn't stand up. He is not married, only a girlfriend (I think fiancee?) living & working in Melbourne. Not believed to be any other reason (illness etc in family) not good enough reason to let go. Has a fair complaint really?
Wonder if this fella will ring back and complain, if Daniher requests a trade to Sydney, that Daniher doesn't have a valid reason for requesting a trade Sydney?

And the risks were/are clear.

Both players could still walk out/fall of the rails at any time, for a rebuilding club, that risk should not be considered. Other contending clubs also passed, when considering the risk

That strategy will change as the core develops
