We have offered a late 2019 pick and want ADL to pay 50% of Eddie's salary
If they accept he will be a Blue again
Not sure why we think this would happen. Adelaide won't simply bend over for Betts - and why would they - Paying half a salary, receiving a crap pick, for a required player? I don't see how this would fly even if they are under enormous cap pressure.
Butler will be looked at if 1 of the 3 fall through. Not priority at this stage, things can change.

There may be another big fish up sos' sleeve that we all don't know about. Id love to drop the name but Id get shot at. He is an interstate player
...Unless that Interstate player is Brad Crouch and SOS is working a deal for both...
Papley and Martin will both get done. Might take a while but they’ll get done.

Betts I unfortunately can’t see happening at this stage.

I’m not sure who carlton09 is talking about, however as I said last week (or week before), there are two BIG names which keep coming up. One interstate and one Victorian. If either one is true, it won’t come out until trade week has started.
As per my last response - if the interstate player is Brad Crouch, then that Betts deal may make sense, otherwise I'm hoping the Vic player is of very high calibre.

Also, Picking up Scott Selwood as a DFA for 1-2 years to help out Ed & Crippa until the younger boys learn the craft is a good move.

Completely off topic, but not sure if this post ever got the love it deserves considering the call was made 6 weeks before the draft. Nice call goreds

More on topic the Riley Knight bit is at 35.55 if anyone is interested. Nothing really extra, but I always like to hear written rumours in context.....

...well that and I'm bored.

Not if we’ve gone down down the Papley path and already allocated this year’s for that. Also need to factor in trade scenario for J.Martin (edited above).
Ok
Martin for future 2nd
Grundy, Pk 9 and next years 1st
Papley = Dow and Fisher

There, I said it

So where are we at with our potential targets?

Martin
Papley
Betts
Butler
Knight
Cutler

Thought he was going to stick around for 2020 on his current deal. Then if Collingwood continue to go for 3 or 5yrs then it opens the FA route if the market pays what he’s chasing.
Announced on one of those newsflash segments about an hr ago.
Has told Pies, 7yrs or see you later.
Obviously had an offer from somewhere else.
Dun, dun, dunnnn!!!

I think there might be a bit of PR pressure to let Eddie go without being unreasonable about it (of course we would need to be reasonable also).

I think there’s been a relatively high level of transparency on the reasons why Eddie hasn’t enjoyed his football the last two seasons and I don’t think the club needs another round of those causes - and the club’s lack of acknowledgement of them - being dragged out. In this case Eddie’s profile of being such a beloved figure at both clubs should buy a high level of goodwill (recent trade week shenanigans notwithstanding).

To me the negotiation is purely on how much salary stays with Adelaide. It seems they’re likely to be shedding a lot of $ in a variety of movements. The pick will be entirely inconsequential.

papley martin and a big fish...sounds pretty expensive and all we have are pick 9 this year and next year first rounder. unless we are trading one or two of our players i cant see how these get done.

If the big fish is Gaff, this won’t be an issue if the talk about his contract clause is correct.

I hope this is the case - I really want to see Betts finish his career with us - and i don't think he's entirely over the hill yet - I suspect he'll rise to the occasion especially if we are seen as flag contenders. Given the whole Gibbs=2 x 1st rounders, and more recently the Stocker Trade, I'm not so sure Adelaide will be lenient to us, I think they'll want to save some face.

7 years is nuts. He’d be 33 and would have spent 13 years being belted in the ruck, with at least the majority of his first seven years being essentially one out - and that scenario likely to continue for the foreseeable future. He’ll be in pieces by the time he’s 30.

His management look after Shiel, Lynch and obviously think they have the TM stamp on seven year deals. As good as he is Collingwood would be mad to cave on that. Given the likely discrepancy in trade value vs FA comp they should push for a trade now - unless they think they’re a chance of winning the flag of course (I hope they do think that).

Suspect he'll come crashing back to reality when the Pies say "Yeah, Nah" and give him a token 5 yr contract and pay rise, at which point he'll accept and say he 'never ever seriously thought about leaving the Pies'
