Nope. You need to use 2 in a 4 year period.

Last year we used 2 (Walsh and Stocker). Ditto the year before (Dow and LOB).

We can trade out of the 1st round this year, next year AND the year after and still have used 2 in 4 years (both in the 2018 draft).

The point raised was that if we use our future second on Martin, we'd need permission to trade our future first - which is correct. Alternatively, we'd need to trade in a replacement second rounder, or an additional first rounder.

Andrew Gaff just finished 2nd in the Eagles B & F and we have people baulking at paying a future 1st rounder for him. I don't think the trade will eventuate, but gee if there is a sniff we can get him, we trade next years first plus change in heartbeat, without even a moment's thought!
Gaff finished 4th his best result in 3 years

You'd have to be a deadset nuffie to not rate Gaff. If it doesn't blow our cap or picks moving forward, you do it in a heartbeat. An elite gut running winger. Of which, we currently have zero.

Walsh?

Everything's relative, but to walk away without Papley this trade period would be a downer for me.
Yes, Gaff is a better player than Papley but people keep looking at the player and not the sum of the parts.

I don't even know why I'm talking about Gaff and as if he did want to come 'home' would we be the only club he'd be looking at?
Maybe North may finally get their man. :)

Don't view it as a long-term contract with a get-out clause, view it as a short-term contract with a player's choice extension clause.

Gaff gets one/two/three/whatever years as an initial contract, and has the choice to extend that by another three/four/whatever years on the same terms. If he chooses not to extend the contract, at the end of the initial contract term his contract ends and he is eligible for free agency again.
just a guess, but if viewed in that context, the player doesn’t reserve any right, he merely delays acceptance of a new agreement at expiration of initial agreement; because, if not mistaken, and assuming it is correct, AFL rules, of which a related clause was previously posted in here by Snake, preclude club and player from including unilateral options.

The way I see it, there is either a long term agreement with machinery identified, in the nature of an occurring event or milestone, such x number of games or detrimental health of a person etc, which automatically, and bilaterally, brings the agreement to an end; or, there is an open offer on the table awaiting acceptance at the end of the current agreement. I doubt it’s the latter.

Would be a crazy good outcome for us getting gaff for no picks.

However in compo eagles would only get a pick after their first, so mid teens.

Is Kelly worth essentially gaff and their first rounder, plus possibly more?

Even though I think it’s extremely unlikely, the only way I can possibly see Us getting Gaff is if...

Gaff deciding he wants to leave and telling West Coast he wants to activate the clause in his contract, and West Coast thinking that it’s best to get our future first round pick to help them satisfy Geelong and help them replace Gaff with Kelly, rather than risk Gaff activating his clause.

But I just can’t see all the above falling into place for us... and I honestly don’t think we will get any big name this year.

Most likely we improve this year to finals contention and then we get a big name to top up for a shot at the flag after that.

I hope we leave the private jet out of it.

Felt like we over did it last year with Sheil and it didn’t help flying him up to Noosa.

I think we did it perfectly last year.

SOS - "Hey Mrs P, can we borrow the jet please?"
Jeanne - "What for son?"
SOS - "Want to play some games with *"

Jeanne throws SOS keys.

Jeanne "Bring it back with a full tank thanks darl."

SOS on Day 1 ...

Vid:-

Doesn't give much away, does SOS? I can imagine him at home....

Ben: Dad, what's for dinner?
SOS: Nothing has been decided yet, I'll sit down with the kitchen manager and work through some discussions.
Ben: How about pasta? You love pasta and haven't had it in ages!
SOS: Look, I'd be happy if pasta was on the menu. I'm open to any type of carbohydrate-based meal, but if a protein-based meal was suggested, I'll take a look at that too. At the end of the day, I'm also respectful that the chef might have already chosen the menu for tonight.
Ben: OK, how about I order some takeaway?
SOS: Look, I'm not desperate for takeaway. We have some really good fresh ingredients in the fridge already and we're confident about the food we can cook ourselves. If I find some takeaway that complements our home-cooked meal, then I'm open to considering that.

Ben: **** it! I guess I'm ordering uber eats again.....
