Listening to Stephen Wells yesterday regarding Tim Kelly, I think we may be able to work ourselves into that deal. They said they would not accept pick 14 + WC 2020 1st + Pick 24

I think they could be looking for a top 10 pick.

We trade Pick 9 + 41 for Pick 14 & 24

They then trade Pick 9 & WC 2020 1st + Pick 33 (they also hold this) for Kelly

We trade Pick 14 for Papley
We trade Pick 24 for Martin

Forward me the paperwork to my work email address thanks.

Bloody hell ... they can't seriously be knocking that back

Pick 14 + Pick 24 + WC 2020 1st

The more I say 9 + 40 for 14 + 24, the more I convince myself I want this deal done.

That nets Martin, Papley and give them the future first for Gaff which will be approx 8-10.

9 + 8-10 is what Telly is worth and Geelong will take it.
8-10?
You don't think we will Improve next year?

Great call & you've defended valiantly :D
What's your call on us making the finals next year?
CERTAIN (bar ridiculous run with injury). I’m an old man now (not as old as Thy...)

This is the deepest list we’ve had in my life. To be fair I don’t really recall the early 80s well. Probably mid 80s on I do. Deeper than 95. Deeper than 80s. Those teams had a fantastic top 10 then in my view were pretty weak on depth.

This side truly amazes me with what it can do. It will rise so quickly. I look at it this way:

1. Backline has a balance of height (Weiters, Jones with Casboult backup), (Doc, Simmo, SPS with Newman, Willp as backup) and hybrids (Plow and Marchy).
2. Midfield has inside (Crippa, Ed, Dow with Stocker as backup), hybrid (Walsh, Fish and Setters, and outside (Obrien, Martin and Murph).
3. Big gun forwards (MCG, McKay, CC), hybrids (Kennedy, Jack), and now hopefully a stack of smalls (Gibbo, Papley, Betts, Cunners).

So depth and lots of variety. And talent.

But more than that it has flexibility. Setters can play mid, wing, tag, half back and half forward. SOS can tag and play forward or back. Casboult can play foeward back or ruck. SPS can play mid forward or back. These arent ‘hopes’- they’ve actually done it.

Finally, most of all- this side now has spirit and self belief. I will be genuinely stunned if we don’t make the 8. I’m ‘expecting’ top 6.

Media reporting GCS want our future first for Martin.

Aaaaand here we go.

Here's one of the unintended flow-on effects of the GC assistance package.

Lets assume some small improvement over the next few seasons.

Natural Picks
2019 - Pick 1 + Pick 15 (via trade)
2020 - Pick 2 + Pick 21
2021 - Pick 6 + Pick 25

Assistance Picks
2019 - Pick 2 + Pick 20
2020 - Pick 11
2021 - Pick 19

In three seasons - Picks 1, 2, 2, 6, 11, 15, 19, 20, 21, 25

On top of that, they get to prelist their academy players without using any picks/points.

Gold Coast have absolutely no use for later picks. So any "Best 22" player that leaves, they'll demand a first round pick knowing that a later pick may not even be used (beyond trading for opposition fringe players).

After securing Martin, I think Gold Coast gets blacklisted for a couple of years, they're going to be a nightmare to deal with.

They want established players.

Any currency is currency. Throw one of their firsts and our second at clubs and they'll bag someone.

Have a look at the picks they’ve had from 2016 to 2018 as well, it’s frightening
