Dude - relax.

For all we know the paperwork is being signed off this morning, or the clubs had other meetings scheduled and have agreed to get together at X o'clock today.

This next comment isn't levelled at you, Harks, more a general observation. There seems to be so much frustration and pent-up rage from some people about deals being done as soon as humanly possible. I don't get it. There's 18 clubs negotiating deals, contacting players, shuffling picks, it's gonna take some time. Just because a deal is agreed to in-principal, doesn't mean the clubs will do it immediately. These little deals, like we saw with Essendon's pick swap, can sometimes be woven into another trade to benefit one party or another. Maybe we're reaching out to other clubs to see if we can work the Betts trade into another deal so that either us or Adelaide get a slightly better return.
I want to share a story on this:

A few years ago, Dyson had a warehouse sale, I ran down there first thing and got a stickvac for $200 off. Feeling pretty good about myself. Sent my boss in the next day and it was down another $100. My eagerness to get it as quick as possible lost me $100. Big lesson learnt that day.

My point is chill the f out, let things play out as they may. If you've already got your deals done it makes it harder if something pops up that can be incorporated into the existing deal that delivers an even better response.

Papley is going to Carlton
Betts is going to Carlton
Martin is going to Carlton
Pav will eventually get to Carlton

Ignore the posturing of the media, the managers and the hysteria of the forum.

End.

AFL reportedly to tell clubs by Friday if the PSD will happen next year. YOU ******* KIDDING ME?!?!

We have started trade period. How the hell are teams supposed to make list management decisions while the AFL is figuring out list management rules/mechanisms?

Every time I think the AFL couldn't get any more amateur......they prove me wrong.

You sure that's the PSD? Pretty sure the PSD still exists, just rarely actually gets used. The one that's up in the air is the possibility of a pre-season trade period, between the JLT and regular seasons, and it seems to be on the cards because the feedback offered to the AFL about a mid-season trade period was overwhelmingly negative.

I don't see a pre-season trade period working anyway. Best 22 players aren't going to be jumping ship in March, and players outside the best 22 looking for opportunity aren't going to get that opportunity at a new club if the join on the eve of round one. Maybe if a club suffered a horrific run of injuries to players of a particular type (ie. 4 ruckman go down), that club might look to trade a future pick for another club's back-up ruck. But I don't think we need a second trade period just for that remote possibility.

If the Betts deal is done....why isn't it done?
What happens that holds things over, if the agreement is in place? Why not just lodge the deal with the AFL?

This happens quite often and I understand when some back-ended picks need to be shuffled but when it's a player for a pick - Why the hold-up?

Bargaining over money and the CFC:AFC split.

Agree.

2 guys trying to be funny and entertaining - and failing miserably.
I actually don't mind them. Bob makes me laugh. Andy can piss me off with his sycophantic behaviour at times though.

Wish SEN would get Daniel Harford and Jason Richardson back together. Those 2 in the same room left me in tears at times.

Seriously though - How much haggling is required.

You buy a house at auction within a few minutes but we need days to come to a figure that satisfies both parties?
I can't imagine how this would work. How many times would you want to be going back and forth on a figure?

Damn, I went down to the sale and they had all sold out.

A lot it appears. I mean if you can save 200k why wouldn't you?

Got a feeling we might jag Aiden Bonar next week with our future first.

Papley and Martin for 9, 43 and 48 (via some pick shuffling)
Betts for a future fourth.
Bonar and change for our future second.

EDITED: Taking on board some feedback on Bonar's value, which I think is completely valid.

Think he's a fair target though - subject to medical.

Let's assume that a deal like this (ie. paying an opposition players salary) needs to be ratified by the board - how quickly do you reckon Roo and Co are signing off on this one?

This Martin kid might seem physically light on, but his Highlights package suggests he’s not averse to the physical stuff.

He's got a great tackling technique.

Tackle numbers also very high for a guy that mostly plays on the outside and is known for his ball use.

Me likey.

Bonar and change (early second rounder of some kind?) for our future first.
Can we have Caldwell or Hartley instead
I wouldn't give up a first round pick for Bonar

Aflinteruptus.

Latin for - We need to keep the supporters on the edge of their seats so we can rake in more money through the media over the extended trade period.

What's Bonar done to warrant our interest and a good pick? (Legit question)

My recollection is when he was drafted he was a boom or bust type who had spectacular physical attributes but injury history (a few knees) and questionable footy smarts.

If he's a couple of years in and the latter two issues are still there.......... gee we'd want to be pretty confident he's going to be a star to sling a good pick for him.

I love the idea of sending our 2020 first rounder out, but not for a "maybe". For bonafide midfield help IMMEDIATELY and for the next 5 years, yes, absolutely, trade that pick.

I’ve heard directly from a list manager that Essendon and Dodoro are in fact very keen on Papley and Papley is open to going there. Not saying our ITKs are wrong ... clearly, just saying there is opposing talk out there in the corridors or Marvel stadium

Bonar isn't worth anything close to a first round pick. 40+ range.
