I know clubs have to include any contract terms for free agents. Not sure if it applied to players in the PSD.

They do. Whatever the nomination states - they pay if they draft.

That's not a very convincing argument against a team drafting him tbh.

It's not a good look to the players and agents that you're not going to take an affordable player who couldn't fit your biggest need any better just because you want to play nice. It's a free swing at a player they're not taking, as a player and agent I have to second guess how serious they are about winning and will be part of my thought process in the future when deciding to join/stay at the club.

The $400k in the cap isn't much, I don't think that pushes any player out. Most clubs probably have that amount of dead money and then some in the cap every year.


I'm not convinced that you don't have to match the terms of the deal in the draft. I think it's different in the draft vs free agency. I think they will need to match it exactly, hence why they've tried to front load it. Nearly every media outlet has referenced the high front end being too much for Melbournes cap to take by design.

Interesting article in Fox AFL about Brad Crouch and his desire to get to Gold Coast. Article says that Crouch initially asked a price that GC declined, but then Crouch significantly lowered his price. This at about the time Papley deal was stalling. And as GC had already committed picks 1 and 2 to Rowell and Anderson, they were after another high pick. To me this would appear why GC uped the stakes in Martin trade. Won't say what I think of GC at this time, but if we do get Martin through PSD for no picks to GC I will be very happy...
