***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

Dead right mate, we are repeating ourselves.

Cripps has been medically cleared to play, banged up or not he has horribly been out of form in the midfield. Very poor.

This is no excuse, his disposal efficiency and (lack ofburst) is what has been killing us. Also, I think he is trying too hard to carry the team instead of being a team player.

When he goes forward he looks super dangerous. However, his set shot kicking is atrocious.

I don’t think the shortened quarters have helped him. I acknowledge he is a beast that has a second wind, but the game in its shortened form (possibly made quicker) has not helped his form. He is as slow as Brock McLean at the minute. I ain’t surprised he isn’t an MVP nomination.

I believe if we can get a bit more outside run in the midfield/defence, and another inside mid (Wines) Cripps would be an amazing forward if we tidy up his set shot kicking.

To be honest, he would not be a top 50 player at the moment, I think a re-jig of his role + some polish would be a big win for the club.

Back on topic of the bluemour thread, Saad and Williams would be great acquisitions. We are lacking some class and some quick transition out of defence. Quite often we are stagnant after the intercept mark, especially under pressure late in quarters we seem to resort back to the long down the boundary line kick to either Cas or De Koning/Pittonet.

I think targeting a Wines along with a Williams/Saad could quite potentially give us a bit more flexibility. I must say I’m a little excited by some of the latest bluemours.

I think we all need to cut Crippa a bit (a lot) of slack for being off the boil this season.

Even though he has been cleared to play you can tell that he's been playing hurt for the majority of the season. Players get cleared to play injured all of the time. Obviously a knee injury or a break will sideline you but there's plenty of injuries that you'll get the okay to play through. It doesn't mean that it won't impact your form but you'll be on the field.

But on top of all of that, it's what's happening off the field that is the most concerning. I'm certain the article about his partner would have been shared and discussed ad nauseam on here. It reads like a heavy deal but understand that what is published when regarding topics of that nature is often only the very surface of what they're processing and working with. A player, and his family, have a right to privacy even when they're open about the issues that they're working through.

We already know that Patrick is a fantastic human being and a phenomenal footballer. By grinning his teeth and trying his best - sometimes too much - we found out just how good a clubman he is this year. Nobody could have faulted him if he tapped out and said "You know what, I need to be with my partner now and constant Skype/Zoom/Facetime conversations just don't cut it."

Let's give him a shortened summer to get his body right for 2021. Allow him to process, work through and continue working through those off-field issues and Pat will get back to his best in 2021.

As far as the team goes, it's not a bad thing that he had an average (by his standards) season this year. His teammates have now become less dependent on his brilliance, have positioned themselves to be successful without him at his best, and are starting to stand up.

Thanks Crippa.

So true. Shell of himself most of this year Crippa has been, can’t be anything other than him being banged up IMO. Desperately needs help and we have to deliver it to him this off-season

My take on it... and this purely my opinion...
I wonder if Teague’s instructions to go out there and do your own thing/ take the game on is having the opposite effect on Cripps. He seems to be playing so Unnaturally Compared to what were used to from him. In that he’s taking the game on And trying to do too much. Almost like he’s an inside mid trying to play outside too. I think the message to him this off season has to be “just do what you do best and go back to the basics”.

Put it this way... I'm kind of glad he hasn't had a monster year yet we've still been competitive in most of our games...

If people want to ask the question of whether we've improved and I said this in the Teague thread, you've got to take a look at how the youngsters are tracking.

Think I had only 4 players that haven't taken a step forward, the rest having a good or great year and that's the reason we've had our chances in most games. It's actually a positive sign that we're not as reliant on him and that'll take some of the pressure off him too imo.

From Tom Morris' blog on Fox Footy... I wonder if the overzealous Essendon supporter is actually Adrian Dodoro (certainly thinks like him):
"do you reckon carlton would be willing to trade patrick cripps for Adam Saad and Jordan Ridley? I'm an essnedon man and reckon cripps would be worth both of those plus carlton probably dont want crippa anymore because he has had a bad year i reckon we all win there but especially essendon"

Re: The only player on your list with any trade currency

To whom it may concern (aka Dodo and the rare other Essendon* employee(s?) that can read),

We hereby lodge our interest in acquiring Zac Merrett from your club via a trade in the upcoming off-season.

Zac has indicated he will be seeking a trade following the conclusion of the season due to the fact that another team will allow him to fulfill his goal of no longer playing for Essendon*.

We acknowledge that Merrett is a very talented footballer, who is also under contract. So we are willing to pay a fair price. As indicated to Dodo in previous trade discussions a fair price excludes such items as 'all the draft picks in every draft for the next infinity years plus one', 'all the tea in China', 'the moon, 'the pyramids of Giza', 'a time machine' or 'Donald Trump's integrity'. In fact, the last two items do not even exist.

We are willing to offer you multiple draft picks so you can finally 'inject some youth' into your team. Ahem.....that was probably a poor choice of words.

You may have noticed that we have written Essendon* with an asterisk at the end. That is to signify both your shameful drug cheating regime (and subsequent denial and obfuscation of said regime) and the fact that Merrett may be the only star currently on your list. We realise that losing Merrett would leave you with very few talented players and demoralise your club. That has no direct bearing on the price we are willing to pay, we just really liked writing that sentence.

Please feel free to contact us via the Court of Arbitration for Sport as we won't bother expecting reasonable negotiations with you during trade week. We are told that if you call CAS on their main line +41 21 613 50 00 and press 1 then # it takes you straight to their Department of Dodo-related trade nightmares.

Worst of luck for the rest of the season.

Yours Insincerely,

Yes, we were quite shocked to find that out too.

I really like the idea of getting guys who genuinely want to play for the Navy Blue.
Saad seems particularly keen and if Wines comes it will be with similar passion - not because we waved the chequebook.
Williams not quite the same. Would be good to know he comes despite not the highest offer.

My sense is that Crouch or Viney should be our priority targets as we are desperately needing more coverage in the midfield to support Cripps.

Williams hopefully also gettable.

Other than that, maybe Jack Graham if the price is right.

I'm an advocate for the draft. If we can get 2 free agents (ideally Viney and Willams) while having 2 picks inside 30 that is a huge win.
