Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

So Williams is a lock. My guess is Saad is next on the agenda and then a surprise or two. I’m thinking Stephenson and Kelly. Question is, what would we need to trade to get them all in?

He's in his second season and hasn't even turned 21 yet, how about we slow down with calling him a bust yeah?
Stocker will be a 200 game player for us. Rated very highly internally. I think people need to settle down a bit and give these kids a chance. They don’t turn into world beaters overnight. bodies need to develop into AFL ready types in order to compete physically.

My best AFL comparison for Stocker in terms of playstyle is Hodge, and he didn't really come into his own until his 4th year. I'm a youngin' so someone will need to correct me, but was his issue early on his tank too? Hence him playing on a back flank for his first few years before graduating to the middle. Very well could be misinformed but that's what I've heard.

Aren't contracts coming down by 20% due to Covid?

If so, then 600k is the equivalent of 720k pre Covid.

Supposedly, a smart player would ask for a low salary in the first year then and a higher one in the next few years. Who knows what the AFL will ask for or do. I still wouldn't be surprised if the AFL add a game or two to the fixture to make up for lost $$$.

Regardless if its $800,000 or more, im very happy, we had extra money that needed spending and it seems we have done that.

Stocker's biggest problem isn't his tank

If youve watched Williams play before and are worried about him getting 800k, his best footy is worth 800k a year. Stop it.
We’ve got the cap space and he’s a proven player. In his prime. Pay the money, and let his footy do the talking. We aren’t “reaching” by doing this. The club obviously have a strategy for this trade/draft period and know we can afford it. I wonder if people cried that we payed Martin a heavily front ended deal this season, so what? We secured him and he’s been fantastic with more improvement to come, is best 22 and now that number drops again.

Like BSOS? Being a KPP you would think he would be given more time than a mid?

Honestly, I'd be a bit hesitant for 800+. Inhibits getting other a graders in. Still happy. But let's not get crazy.

This exactly. I see this comparison as well and the club did also which is why we traded a future first to get him in. Stocker is an extrovert and a future general. People need to be patient. The problem we have had at Carlton the last 5 years is that we didn’t have the experienced body types to allow our younger players the luxury of developing without being under heavy scrutiny. Now with players joining within the 25-28 age bracket to compliment our up and coming young talent this removes that burden and allows your Dow’s, LOB’s, Cunningham’s and co. to play more freely and find their confidence. We are now 2 mature B+/A grade players away from being a top 4 side (Williams not included).
Saad is probably B at the moment but potential B+ and one of either Kelly/Taranto/Coniglio/Viney/Merret fit in the B+ to A grade category. We have ourselves knee deep in this atm and it is very exciting. 2021 will be our break out year so everyone please keep the faith.

I was very interested to listen to Jordan Lewis a few days ago talking of not paying anyone over $800,000, spoke in regards to lots of players at the Hawks playing for less than they were worth in order to get success.

Do you see that with the Giants? Cameron has been over a Mill the last 2 years, we can only speculate what Cogs, Whitfield and Kelly are on but i think its safe to say its close to a Mill.

It does and clearly has a flow on affect, i love Greene and id happily pay him $800,000 but you need to be careful.
Jordan Lewis was apart of the Hawks in the most successful period; and I think that Dangerfield is paid $1.00 less then Selwood because Geelong always pays the captain the most money? Regardless both the Hawks during the 3peat and Danger going to Geelong was before the salary cap raise. 800k then isn't as big at 800k now. Don't forget that Boyd was the first player in the AFL to be paid 1m a year and win a premership. If Boyd is worth 1M, which he was in that finals campaign, then Greene is worth 1.8 mil
