Yeah post ferm and 2 weeks at 1 degree. Bottled today and tastes promising.

Why do you ask that?
Sweet. Just wasn’t sure - sometimes people take pics of super clear wort before it gets fermented but then it doesn’t end up that clear after fermentation. But yours looks great! How good are lagers

So I did some reading up on gelatins. Found some opinions that basic ones may create a slight off flavour from the beef and found a vegan flavourless one and chucked it in the first day it reached 1 degree and started stirring. Within seconds it had turned to clear jelly and I spent the next 10 minutes gently scooping it all out. Ended up just using my finings sachet from the brew store in the end and it turned out pretty good, looking forward to seeing it in the glass. Hoping it tastes more like the Weinstephaner Pils than the Urquell.

Yes very excite for the lagers, going to do a Vienna lager next but make up a decent starter this time to get it right. Mentioned I stocked up on the craft lagers - currently trying this one and it's pretty decent:

Scooping the jelly out of the fermenter? I think that’s just what it does but it slowly drags the rest of the particles down with it as it falls and then sinks into the bottom. I haven’t really ever paid that much attention to it In the fermenter though - I usually only fine in the keg

Well TBH it's only my second time doing it. Both other times with the finings sachets it didn't go full gelatinous instantly. With the vegan gelatin it was floating in large chunks in the beer and clinging to the sides of the fermenter - definitely did not look right.

Feel like I should brew something before I go away for a few weeks - leave it in the fermenter til I get back sorta thing

Has that kicked in already? Maybe I’ll fly back from there. Lockdowns notwithstanding I will def be utilising that at some point in 2021 either way

I think it starts in Feb, but I'm going from memory there. Great option to spend a few days down there then scoot home. Reckon all the WA crew heading to and from GABS will love it, too.

I still struggle to get those big hop flavours and aroma in my brews.
Is it from whirlpool additions or hop stands at a certain temp Or mostly dry hops? My last beer I did a 20min hop stand at 76° (I think). This one I forgot so just chucked the hops into the fermenter. I'm not sure if I can taste much difference.
Maybe using proper flowers gives it that fresh kick I'm looking for 🤷‍♂️.

Yeah same with me. I’ve never managed a hop bomb even when I’ve used a bucket load in whirlpool, double dry hopped etc. And I have sealed fermenters and closed transfer into kegs. Just doesn’t seem to be my thing.

I think oxygen is ultimately the big killer for hop flavour but also I reckon the hops you buy from homebrew stores can’t be as good as the ones breweries use. I don’t think it has to do with whole flowers vs pellets though.

Hit up the International Beer Shop - now better known as Cellarbrations Leederville. Used to be one of the few places you could get over-seas beers back in the day but is now more of a craft beer selection, similar size selection to Mane. Still have a few international beers though, grabbed a Kolsch, German Pils and a Helles. Easy drinking beers for lazy days.

Freo Dr has a pretty good spread of international beers. And if I recall, Mane does too.

Simon who steers the ship at Leedy (and others) is a great guy. Always good for a chat and a recommendation.

Yeah Mane has a fair few but more focused on international craft than traditional. Had a fair few Belgians but pricey AF.

Hopefully not too frowned upon in a homebrew thread, does anyone have a beerdroid/brewart here? Getting one for Xmas and keen to hear any tips or pointers.

I'm actually keen to know all about it, please let us know your thoughts in great depth; whilst preparing, initial tastings and inevitable drunkenness.

Hey what gives?! You shouldn't know what Santa has dropped off until Xmas morning
Haha I peeked inside his sleigh when he wasn't looking (when the black friday sale were on).

I have always been keen to homebrew but make excuses for the time it takes. Tried when younger but failed miserably. Now I am too old for sport which used to take all my free time hopefully this will allow it while managing kid time while not working.

My homebrew Czech Pils:

Clear and bright and nicely carbed. Still a bit sweet, so going to leave it to condition for a few more days before chucking in the fridge to smash over Christmas.
