Disagree. Agree he’s overpaid, but he’s not soft.

He had his nose smashed in, blood coming out - they couldn’t re-set it so it would have been dangerous to come back on. The eagles were tackling with intent last night, he needed to be protected from further damage.
Yes, I wouldn't call him soft but so overrated it makes me gnash my teeth.
He hadn't touched the pill before he got cleaned up. You could literally count his match winning deeds on one hand.

Pretty much? Richmond has won 3 of the last 4. WC underperform in my mind by a considerable amount every year. They have it all. Great list, possibly the strongest, great home ground advantage. Maybe they don’t have a great coach.

Yes I agree with you they have advantages and a great list. But they also have disadvantages, flying every second week etc, it’s known as the worst return journey in the league.

Only Richmond has played in more GF’s in the last 6 years.

if Jamar has bought back Grundys self belief and confidence so quickly, then that’s a huge tick.
Something as small as a fresh voice can have significant change. Not sure if he's the sole reason Grundy was so aggressive, but I'll take it!

I still think Cox has a role to play, but what last night shows is that if you can’t mark the ball then it’s hard to have a place in the team - we just don’t have the crumbing smalls to clean up or put pressure when teams run it out.

Cox just drops far too many or gets out- marked too much.

He’s out of contract this year.....

I’d rather see a mobile Moore/Kelly/Mihocek trio.
Kelly up front doesn't fill me with optimism. He hasn't looked like taking a contested mark in the games I've watched him. I don't think he would have done much last night. Maybe defense could be a starting position where he can gain some confidence.

Great heart shown by the boys? Shirley?

There were signs early and late, but for 2 qtrs there was NO resistance especially in the midfield. Then cue in rack. Pies won i50 and lost the tackle count. Eagles were escorted by us goalward for half the game. Buckley has his flaws, I feel sorry for him now, his poor body language, perhaps even the internal struggles he is enduring. But he tried something.

Repeat - this WAS NOT a great effort.

you don’t win CP without effort.

Maybe travel is their Achilles heal. Because something sure is. I’d take their list over any other clubs list in the AFL.

Agree.

I think they win it this year - them or the Tigers.

I’d honestly back the tigers. And if we hadn’t beaten the tigers in 2018, they’d have won that too. But we shall see. Might be the year of the dog.

Be great to see Treloar win one to be honest.

Dogs a KPD short for mine but their midfield on their day might overpower sides.

It didn't sit right with me when their talls were having a day out and our AA CHB was stuck in our forward line. He did no better or worse than Cox up there but it left a gaping hole down back that was exploited

He was our leading goal kicker for the night.

Kicked three games in his first game forward in 3 years. Was lightening quick on leads. Field kicking was good and was able to apply some pressure when it hit the ground as he is quick and agile. Most importantly he did not drop marks(Cox is good for dropping a couple of uncontested marks a game) I'd say all things considered he is alot better than cox up forward.

Agreed it left a big hole but I feel for short term pain it is worth playing him forward. He is clearly our best key forward option and I think long term its easier to find defenders(or turn the likes of kelly into one) than forwards and Darcy has the potential to be one of the best forwards in the game, especially now that the new rules means teams can move the ball quicker into the forward line.

It is indeed a genuine dilemma in the heat of the game, where to put a guy who can play both ends.

Im no Buckley fan but applaud him for sticking with it, and taking a longer view.

The most frustrating thing for me this year, when we actually get on top, we always give away the goals and momentum. Things like crisps chip across goals. Against the giants when we started going backwards you always knew we were one bad handball away from a Toby Greene goal.

I wish we went back to 2018 hell speed run and gun football even if we lose. Because slow play and run and gun is not working.

Also given how slow West Coast move the ball, I have no idea how they have space for 1v1 contest. Feeling our running is worst in AFL offensively and defensively.

no pain no gain.

Keane showed some good glimpses amidst getting a bath in some marking contests Perservere with him (or somebody else like Kelly or Wilson) in defence. I think we need to continue to work on the future with Moore at the pointy end.

Agree. Peter McKenna up forward and Billy Picken down back would’ve had zero impact on the result. Have to fix the midfield woes.
Nonetheless at least there was commitment this week and pleasing to see a semblance of decent quality game style in that first quarter.
Right up against it losing Goo and Howey though unfortunately.
The midfield woes might be here to stay. Players that could’ve run through the midfield for us last year that won’t be there next week include Treloar, Adams, DeGoey, Phillips, Elliott, Stephenson.
We are super shallow in their now particularly with Pendles and Sidey ageing and Sier not coming on like we hoped.

Hope and pray it's not the tigs, that'd push us further back into irrelevance.

Their chip chip game is infuriating to watch. At least Richmond go forward relentlessly.
That first 15 minutes was mind numbing.
But it was effective last night

I’m gonna really enjoy watching the likes of McCrae, Daicos (x2), Moore, and Grundy tear teams apart over the next 5-10 years.

Sadly though the support cast is a shambles, filled with “project players”, VFL footballers, and slow bog average midfielders.

Until we recruit (Hine has to go) some quality key position players we are going to see the dysfunctional game plan we currently have.

So what are you saying, recruiting slow mids who can't kick was a mistake?

There's an old saying, if it looks like dog poo, smells like dog poo and tastes like dog poo, it's probably dog poo.

Howe's injury looked like a PCL to me. Never seen a hamstring injury in a marking contest before.
I wonder if we'll be hearing this week scans reveal some knee damage - I hope I'm wrong.
