Article in the HS about our team selection. Any outliners able to assist?

Guessing it follows on from Landsberger's comments about how it's often younger crop getting a few games out of position then making way as the token players to be dropped while some senior players escape similar treatment

I love how they say that "Carlton's young talent has copped the brunt of the selection axe" when the media themselves have heaped the pressure on these young kids (especially Dow) to the point that some journos have themselves said they aren't best 22.

For those with Kayo/Foxtel - Kingy's analysis on First Crack was spot on (yes, I'm surprised to have typed that too...). Shows our defensive frailties and calls out Murph for not tracking his opponent. This was fairly obvious for those at this game (and every other I've been to this year) where you could see our defensive structures and unwillingness to chase.

Paywalled so I'm not sure what it says but it comes with these attached.

"For the season, Sam Petrevski-Seton has had 77 kicks. It’s hard to believe how many of them have been short. Check out all Robbo’s likes and dislikes from Round 6."

“HIS current failings might not be all Sam Petrevski-Seton’s fault.
The game allowed him — because of zone football — to be a pretty footballer, and the coaching staff still allow that.
He has talent, but not urgency or creativity. There’s a nothingness about his disposal. He had 15 kicks against the Lions and all 15 were recorded as short.
For the season, he’s had 77 kicks — 70 of them short. Where’s the creativity and aggression with ball in hand?
He should be Caleb Daniel, creating angles, going at 45 degrees, moving lines, but we see little of that.
He gets the ball and moves it from point A to point B. Either his confidence is shot and he won’t try to peel off a long ball to space or a leading forward, or the coaches instruct him to kick short, because, after all, the Blues are a short-kicking team.
David Teague constantly talks about not making the most of their opportunities. The same could be said of the ball in Petrevski-Seton’s hands”

I'm not saying there isn't some valid criticism here, but I'm not sure how his lace-out pass to set Murphy up in the 4th can be recorded as 'short'?

This shows vision of more than just Eddie.

he normally does the team thing but in one scenario betts had H metres to the left of him but betts took a selfish approach and decided to take a shot under pressure (oof i think) rather than handball to H which would have been a certain goal. but on so many occasions in that game it was clear his body is not up to it any longer. just play him in the ressies training up the youngster forwards.

The constant media pressure must be cutting through to the coaching group at IKON you would assume.

It’s time for the footy boss and coaching group to get in a room and map out the rest of the season

Murphy, Betts and Cas need to be phased out

Newnes needs to go back to the 2s in favour of LOB

Curnow needs to spend more time out centre and guys like Dow and setters need to be played in there for the duration of the season.

Plowman needs to either be played as a small or in the 2s...isn’t a 3rd tall

This needs to happen as of now...we can still salvage this season

Interesting. Seems like a mash up of what Maher said and what a number of rational people have been saying on here. Eddie and Smurph have to be dropped. Eddie isn’t himself any more and a snickers bar won’t help. Murphy has dropped a couple of yards in pace and both of them struggle to kick over 35m these days.

Levi is playing with a leg or knee injury and has an issue getting elevation in his jumps. Needs to be rested and managed, but we have no one to replace him because McDonald went down with stress fractures of the back. TDK is due back soon, and he can slot into Casboults spot.

Ed is a mismatch. We need him for his tagging abilities, but as someone extracting the ball, he’s a panic merchant. Instead of looking for options, he just puts the ball onto his boot and kicks long and hopes. And 7 out of 10 times, the opposition marks the ball.

2. Move over, Cripps. Walsh is now Carlton's top dog
Patrick Cripps has been the Blues' main man for a few years now, but it's time the mantle is passed on to emerging superstar Sam Walsh. It's hard to believe the 2019 NAB AFL Rising Star is still only 20 years of age with the level he is playing at. Against the Lions on Saturday he amassed a massive 33 disposals (10 contested), five clearances and stepped up to kick a cracking goal in the second term to briefly halt the Lions' charge. Cripps still racked up 25, but only had four kicks and failed to assert himself on the match. Walsh is now averaging 30.5 possessions a game and is on track for his maiden All-Australian blazer in just his third season. - Ben Sutton

Anyone disagree with any of that?

Jones was a big culprit of shocking positioning.

The number of times Stocker was matched up on Hipwood at a centre bounce was frustrating.

Any chance Jones could stay with his man when the other team is getting a run on?

He does some great things but at other times is like a headless chicken trying to recover form bad positioning and then over-commits and falls over. Often.
