If it’s to be Voss we really need Lloyd to lift his game or bugger off. I hope Cook sorts this out as soon as the new coach is selected.
Do not for a minute underestimate the impact and influence Diesel will have on our Footy Dept as Director of Football. Chris Judd Invests failed miserably, Diesel wont make those rookie mistakes.

He’s the ONLY experienced coach we have interviewed and Sayers said we WILL get an experienced coach so we can’t select another training wheels coach….

People kill it at interviews all the time and fail at their job. I’d be more interested due diligence done with others he interacted with that don’t need to be nice about him anymore.

He is not even our 1st choice vs Teague!

C’mon Gav. That wasn’t exactly a fair fight. The fans / media momentum behind the “Teague train” ultimately ensured the previous process was a charade.
Strong tip is that selection panelist Judd was insistent on Voss but overruled.

With Voss, I reckon there's a fair chance part of his pitch and attraction would be the team he can bring with him.

With all our assistants gone it's a clean slate except Power. If, for example, Voss can state that Lappin and Scarlett will join him at Carlton if he wins the position, that would help his cause.

Lappin and Scarlett both assistants at Geelong, obviously they'd have some kind of relationship with Cook.

Fergie wasnt sacked from Aberdeen and it wasnt his first coaching job,do you just make stuff up and pass it off as fact?

He wasn't sacked from Aberdeen. He was however, sacked from St Mirren which was his second managerial job after East Sterlingshire.

Firstly, people are doing more than being sceptical. They are reacting angrily as though the decision is 100% wrong and they can't know that.

Secondly, who is the club? Is it the ground, the buildings, the dressing rooms, the logo out the front, the car park? Because if not, I don't know of too many people who have been there for 20 years to have earned that judgment. Unless it is Shane O behind it all?

New CEO - any reason to be sceptical there? Half a new board ... is that 50% scepticism?

New Football Director - Diesel given you any reason to doubt him yet?

David Parkin also helping to select a new coach - not exactly covered in failure is he? Might have a few credits in the bank in fact.

No, it's not the club as such, it's recent history surrounding the club but people have gone and more have come and those who have just come surely can't be blamed for the sins of those who have left. The scepticism is all mindset.

The coach selection panel concerned me with Parko the only panel member that I thought would be a judge of a coach. I’m hoping Cook coming in late while not ideal may help select a good candidate but I fear they haven’t applied. People would listen if he says we need to talk to others before being so hasty.

Diesel has the passion for sure. His appointment is the one that worries me and seems like “old Carlton” to me he is certainly not whom I thought we would have replaced Judd with but at least he’s engaged.

That whole feeling of 'who do you trust' when you are sacked, really hits home. They ask him if he has lost the players and he is thinking 'I don't know'.

To me, that is a cultural thing. You need the Footy Boss, the Footy Director, the assistant coaches, the club psychologist ... all being on top of player mindsets. Encouraging them to communicate, to share their frustrations. It is bloody hard for one senior coach to develop and maintain relationships with 44 players. Upset one and his immediate mates are also upset on his behalf. You need that feedback, you need that openness and inclusiveness.

I think Cook will be key here.

I disagree with all this ‘now it seems like we’ve been left with our pants down’ business

Lyon said he wasn’t interested in being part of a process.

Clarko said cook rang him up and asked if he’d be interested in being a part of the selection process, which he declined.

As far as we can tell as of right now at least Kingsley and Voss have also been in discussions as a part of the process.

collingwood had a six month head start sorting their shit out. We didn’t have that luxury. Ultimately they’ve chosen an untried coach.

one of the mandates of ‘the process’ was to find an experienced available coach. We’ve had a massive win with the CEO appointment and we need a coach who is experienced enough to have failed and learnt from it, be accepting of his role and the position of his assistants and the entire footy club to drive the standards and build the culture that wins flags in the modern era.

If ultimately the process determines Voss is best suited to fill that position then the process has been a success. Of course like all things in life no matter your best intentions things don’t always go to plan. But with a solid foundation of culture, structure, discipline, selflessness and hard work that has begun to be built by sayers, will be embedded by Cook; then any weakness or failings of the ‘system’ are easily identifiable and can be corrected.

I can’t honestly say I want Voss. No. But did I want to buy a flag with Clarko?, probably not. does Lyon still feel grubby to me? Yes.

so whatever the process we have been going through ultimately decides I’ll back in. Because process and systems are bigger than individuals. Yes the are instituted by individuals or a group but once established it’s the system, culture, whatever you want to call it that can and will endure long after any one individual has moved on.
Go Blues 2022!

I really didn't like the failed inference, but I do get your point.
Would it make you feel better to learn that, despite the period in which he handed the reins late in his career to WB, he's been the best coach we've had in my lifetime thus far?

I understand your concern, but based on what you're concerned about, David Parkin was also, technically, a failed coach having been sacked by us. Yet he came back and he went on to win a premiership. Things can and do change
Please parkin had won a premiership with hawthorn before he started - it it wasn't for the president and his board he probably would of won more than 81-82 -- even walls was sacked prematurely -- the 80/90s when we had a clear advantage over the competition but so much staff insecurity and poor culture probably why our results were ordinary - went from 6 in 14 to 2 in 40

Happy with Clarkson saying no...
It was always going to be the case since he said no the first time. Good on him for putting family first...

What I don't understand is why
  • We seemed to have pushed Lyon out of the process, a 3 time grand finalist coach, who seemingly (from the outside) ticks the most boxes.
  • Likely for Voss who made finals once in 5 years and has been overlooked for every available job since he was sacked, including us twice.
If it's Voss than good luck to him, wish him the best...
But I just don't understand how he can miss out on so many jobs, but is our perfect candidate outside of Clarkson

I am so bored right now so just did a Google search for next Carlton coach and ...

Google are the illuminati it seems :D

Seriously, call me warped or eccentric or just plain nuffie, bur the more I read anti Voss posts, the more He appeals to me as coach.

He also beat Essingtin 1 and Collingwood twice as a player in a Grand Final, he certainly has the Navy Blue Pedigree as a player at any rate.

Sir Alex Ferguson was sacked from his first Socfer managerial job (at Aberdeen) btw but seemed to have gone on to do okay afterwards at his next club.

Anyhow whatever happens will happen. Not worth getting emotionally wound up or upset over at any rate, especially given the times we live in.
Wait. Alex Ferguson is going to be our next coach?

Not surprised Clarkson isnt coaching- for the reasons I stated when Teague was sacked- he has had 17 years at Hawforn and it will take him at least a year to get over being sacked from there by Kennett - part of his recovery will be getting paid by Kennett for a year.

He is also a smart enough little angry midget to know that Carlton is a hard gig for any coach - the supporters will expect results immediately - but will be happy to give the new coach the coming pre-season to get it all together.

Still believe as I have always believed that Ross Lyon was the easy safe bet for the Club. However - Voss ticks my box as far as understanding the imperative of being hard at the contest - so at least the mongrel factor should go up by a quite a bit for Carlton. I am guessing that unless Vossy isnt a complete dullard he will have learned quite a bit under Hinkley and doing time as an assistant.

Hopefully though the club also finds a senior mentor to help him and provides top quality assistants to support - the assistants will nbe the triicky bits so I hope Cook has been able to bring Scarlett over- - something that would shock me but aslo please me no end.

Ive got my fingers crossed for a Ross Lyon and Voss scenario - but what will will be and whatever that happens to end up being - will better than the absolute rubbish we've hadd to watch for 2 years now.

Anyway I look at things - one thing is for sure - any half steppers wont be playing senior football for Carlton going forward.
