Oh please, LOB is not even close to being in the same boat.SPS was one of those players that some fans created a myth around when they were trying to pump him up that speed was one of his best traits. Yet when you watched him play he never displayed any great pace at the AFL level. LOB is in the same boat in that regard.

Seems a bit short-sighted of SPS to jump ship 5 minutes before a new coach starts and quite possibly plays him in a different way.
Unless he and Diesel have already talked and SPS didn't like the sound of what a newer, harder-edged Carlton means for him.
If you don't have a contract on the table it's treated as different than if you refuse to sign a contract.
Brander will automatically become a free agent. SPS will have to go to the draft as we've offered him a contract (assuming our contract we offered him wasn't a bullshit minimum wage offer).
West coast would have to offer brander an AFL median wage contract for him to not become a free agent.
if I’m being completely honest I think the moment Williams came into the club samo was one who became expendable. The funny thing is that samo is probably just a level below Williams as a half back and is the better midfielder. It’s crazy to think we paid that much money for essentially replacing samo. I said it when we got Williams and I will say it again when we bring in cerra. We are just paying overs for players that we already have. The club seem to be spending money for the sake of it. It’s getting tiring.

Good.Thanks. We'll let the club know to contact you before they hire someone. Cheers.
I should know better than to do this, but a while, being one draft?
This ‘SPS was played out of position’ narrative falls short IMO.
We gave him every opportunity over three and a half years to develop into a decent mid, he continued to underwhelm and showed little improvement since he was drafted and was only moved into defence in his 4th year after again lacking the output you’d expect of a midfielder.
Then there’s the other aspects. He was unfit, slow, opted to choose basic, conservative options constantly. Rarely extended with his kicking despite being a technically beautiful kick and turned it over far too frequently for the kind of kicks he was trying to execute.
His attack on the ball was poor. He was inconsistent. Nothing about the way he played gave me the impression he was being misused, as he was his own worst enemy with his lack of effort. He actually looked comfortable in defence because he could just read the ball coming in and sweep up. Being one of the best loose ball accumulators in 2020 says a bit.
Happy to give Teague his due, but SPS’ underwhelming stint at Carlton is in no way on him.
You’re overrating williams man. He doesn’t defend on ground level and he can’t run games out. He looks gassed when he plays at half back… he’s a sensational ball user but I can confidently say that samo is a better midfielder than williams.SPS is not close to Williams as a footballer.
He's not really.
If you put him in the GF sprint he'd get blown away by the league's true quick players.
Some players need assistance to get the most ut of their natural ability...SPS strikes me as one of those. I could be way off base here...but not sure we've had anyone from the coaching group to the playing list that have been prepared to really challenge him and his standards? It's a real shame because he's one bloke that can really use the ball well when he gets it...and I suspect could probably be even more penetrating given some real guidance.
Let's say, for the sake of argument, that he's on 750 thousand a season for the next two seasons.I don't know how we can offload a contracted player, who is on big money, but playing about as good as me (I retired after Under 16s). Even if we paid some of his wage I'd be surprised if we'd get any takers. Maybe see what a new coach can do with him? If that doesn't work, put him in a cannon, sell tickets and fire him down Lygon Street - I'd pay to see that.
