I think most AFL fans agree but the "umpire dissent" is so vague and in essence ridiculous; anything that disagrees with an interpretation is fair game for a penalty?

Stephenson yelled and was kind of a little bit disrespectful, pay the first 50 maybe and group it under umpire abuse. But seeking clarification or trying to explain your side being penalised is insane.

I think his first response could certainly be seen as “aggressive”, especially by a FIGJAM umpire like Ray.
As you said, the second being paid is madness.
They seriously need to rethink this rule. Players can’t be expected to not even respond AT ALL.

Didn’t take long for the Clarko effect to ware off lol, their looking at a 20 goal loss here.

Stephenson said “what else could I do?” Or something to that effect, followed by saying “he ducked” and made a ducking motion. If you think there isn’t something wrong with the dissent rule, you’re out of your mind. No other sport on earth has a rule that means you can’t engage with the officials at all.
Give Ray the chance to have his moment in the sun and he takes it every time, ridiculous umpiring.

Lets assess the Kangas at the end of the year and see if they have improved from the past 3 years where they have been horrible. It’s concerning some of the cattle out there are on long terms deals such as Corr (5 years) and Coleman-Jones (4 years) then some of the other recruits like Tucker and Howe are just not up to it. I am really concerned about co-Captain McDonald. His form has tapered way off and that brain fart in the good square is a coach/player/supporter killer. A shame for young Comben who should get a Powerball ticket on the way to the hospital as his luck with injuries has been terrible. Maybe it’s a case if it’s going to get worse, before is gets better. It gives me faith that Melb were very much a busted arse club a few years back. Paul Roos had more impact on their resurgence, then the wasteful $’s we spend on him as a “consultant” for the club. Chin up my fellow shinboners.

It actually creates a bigger divide and a more oppositional, "us vs them" environment between the players and umpires from where I see it hahaha, which is just insane really. Early days players were watching replays and umpires would penalise them for shaking their heads or lifting there arms in exasperation. Not even in communication with the umpires, just reacting to vision. It really did get to stupid levels early days. Tonight is similar, Stephenson went back over in a more calm manner and seemed to say "What am I supposed to do though?" and the umpire could ignore him, just say "I thought it was high contact" or whatever he wants to do, but he instead made it some personal vendetta and decided to punish him for asking. Bizarre.

Kudos to you for showing up.

If you don't stick through the bad times, you don't deserve the enjoy the good times when they eventually come!

I’m guessing he regretting a few life decisions he made a couple of years back!
What a sad fall from grace.

38 goals and a Rising Star in his first season, then even had 21 in his first 12 games in season 2 before that gambling suspension.

He could’ve been in a much better place in his AFL career right now if he’d made a few smarter decisions earlier on.

Far out, how many North Melbourne players are bad at basic skills like marking and decision-making? You’d hope that this is just inexperience and not that they have a lot of busts running around right now

Hawks are not making the usual moves, like adding a +1 in defence late in a game when up in an effort to tank.

North are not even playing a defence.

Panic stations down at Hawthorn.

Zurhaar has a lot of heart. Unlike most of his teammates.
