He meant non Vic players of course.Of all people Eddie talking about slurs being outlawed by the AFL.
In future players will get 6 week bans. We shall see.
Essendon players were outraged by Fin’s comment…really?

From a port player, 3 (add another if indigenous). How many for “big girls blouse”?
Players from grassroots to afl level would use the same word finlayson used. I wouldnt think anything of it like most people. I was surprised when I heard he reported himself. Not sure we should compare ourselves to the standards of 15 year olds playing call of duty or edgelords on 4chan for that matter.
Do you reckon a tennis player would get away with calling his opponent a ****** during a match?
What about if you went over to your colleagues table and called him one in earshot of your boss, while the CEO was around?
I hear it 20x a game at the local soccer club games & a lot worse.Players from grassroots to afl level would use the same word finlayson used. I wouldnt think anything of it like most people. I was surprised when he reported himself.
Agree totally ( I come in peace). It is hilarious that Eddie McGuire is seeking to justify the punishment meted out to your player when he is guilty for equally horrible comments (made on radio and broadcast publicy!!!) Who will ever forget the slur against Adam Goodes?? He escaped with minimal damage, but your guy is getting publicly hammered and vilified. Sympathies for you, as this world is grotesquely unjust.Yet Maguire has done some serious slanderous s**t in the media.

More homophobic? What does that actually means?
What the AFL needs to do is to list all the possible homophobic words and give a possible penalty for each, or group them and allocate a penalty for each group.
Na, I know what society is like today. Full of snowflakes.Would they? Well maybe they should ******* stop using a horrible slur that went out of common usage two decades ago.
You're clearly pretty out of touch with society if you're shocked by the response. Finlayson himself immediately knew he ****ed up.
Na, I know what society is like today. Full of snowflakes.
They don't have to defend Finlayson's actions to point out the hypocrisy.Part of me thinks that the club is doing the right things and staying out of the controversy of being perceived to endorse Finlaysons language (just look how Koch's words were twisted) and letting others point out the hypocrisy for us.
The other part of me sees this as the continuation of a spineless admin that never stand up for their own.
Please go on, I’m interested to hear your thoughts on why it’s a stupid analogy.Probably the stupidest analogy I've seen. Which given the amount of content across multiple platforms, is quite the effort.
At the end of the day that’s just what it really is,an exercise in image management. What does the gay community think about Haneen Zreika sitting out Pride Round in the AFLW every year because she's a Muslim and objects to wearing a guernsey celebrating such a thing? You can say it's religious so it's different but really what she's saying by doing that is she objects to homosexuality and doesn't even want to be associated with it. Is that acceptable?
This is the problem with being self appointed arbiters of morality and social justice and dishing out punishments to those who don't conform. You end up having to grade different levels of racism, homosexuality, etc, and it ends up looking more like an exercise in image management than anything else.
Do we definitely know that Finny wasn't provoked at all. Not saying it justifies what he said, but if you're going to wheel it out in defence of Clarkson then it's a fair question.AND poor Clarko was PROVOKED!
The Herald Sun’s Lauren Wood, speaking on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle, explained what the AFL saw as the difference between the Clarkson and Finlayson slurs.
“First things first is the actual slur that was used, the actual word. Clarkson’s was probably not considered by those who were investigating to be as openly homophobic, whereas Finlayson’s was incredibly pointed, incredibly cutting, total no-go zone,” she said.
“Then they looked at the provocation. Finlayson was basically unprovoked, Clarkson’s situation, the environment was highly charged, he had St Kilda players coming at him (after the Jimmy Webster bump), he was going back at them.”
But she added, suggesting the league regretted not suspending Clarkson: “It’s safe to say at the moment the differences wouldn’t be as vast if the AFL had its time again.”

So a whole community of people deserves an apology for something said to one person? The idea that somebody feels so offended by a word somebody else said to somebody else when you were not even present, not directed at you at all, to the point that you feel you and your "community" deserve an apology is a level of thin skinned I can't even fathom. You don't even know officially what was even said!
The afl thought it relevant to mention for ClarksonWhat do you suggest the Essendon players could have said to him that would make it okay to use a slur?
Provocation is entirely ****ing irrelevant and you're embarrassing yourself by constantly banging on about it. It's the same s**t Crows supporters tried to pull to defend Walker.
The AFL are a bunch of campaigners, I don't care what they say.The afl thought it relevant to mention for Clarkson
